from reshaping and styling to keratin treatments all carried out by their small but highly-trained team.

Each month the JolieTeam will be scouring the country for the latest beauty hotspots! First up on our radar is Glass Hair Salon in London.

The first thing that strikes you about Glass is the sleek exterior. Located just minutes away from Barbican station down a quiet side street, the grey awning and industrial brick shop front illustrate a functional style, something that’s echoed throughout the salon. EN E R C S N U S SHOULD OF OUR BE A PART SKINCARE EVERYDAY UV plus HP ROUTINE? CLARINS When it comes to holidays we all like to overload our suitcases with essentials for warmer climates. Taking our luggage to the airport brimming at the seams with a range of sunscreens in various factors, for different parts of the body, it’s top on our list of priorities. At home however sunscreen is neglected, surfacing only for rare hot, hot days. Yet sun exposure is one of the biggest causes of ageing and if you’re as vain as us, then we say it’s time to make sunscreen an everyday must and not just a holiday romance!

When it comes to UV radiation it’s important to note there are two types of rays that can cause damage to the skin; UVA which are consistently present no matter what the weather and UVB which are more prevalent in the summer months. It’s been suggested that exposure to both can account for up to 90% of the symptoms of premature ageing. It’s therefore best to look for sunscreens that are ‘broad-spectrum’, meaning they protect against both UVA and UVB rays. It’s recommended that an SPF of 15 or above is applied daily to the face. This will provide adequate all day protection for an average ‘work’ day, however if you plan on spending periods of time outside then it’s worth upping your SPF considerably. Foundations that already contain SPFs are best not to be relied on for your daily quota – top up with one of the below and you’ll be truly covered. So get your shopping lists out as these are our top facial sunscreen picks!

To get the best of your sunscreen it’s important you use it every day, as those UVA rays are ever present come rain or shine. Be liberal in your application, making sure it’s the last product applied to your face in order for it to work to its full effect. Carry it with you should you need to top up and keep daydreaming of warmer climates!

SUSAN MA 23, finalist from The Apprentice and founder and Managing Director of Tropic Skin Care

What do you work as?

Describe a typical day at work for you?

I’m proud to say I’m the Managing Director of Tropic Skin Care. But the saying goes ‘find a job you love, and you’ll never have to work a day in your life’, so I don’t really call it work.

Having your own business means that no two days are ever the same. There’s always an infinite amount of things to do as you’re constantly learning and discovering new things! My days range from experimenting with exciting new ingredients, brand promotion, to dealing with customers and trade.

What is your background? I was born in China, moved to Australia when I was six and then moved to England when I was 13, so I’ve had quite a varied background. When I was younger I was fascinated with natural skin care, and used to make skin care products with my Mum and sell them at markets over weekends. At the same time, I was studying full time at UCL, doing a degree in Economics and Philosophy. After graduating, I worked for an investment bank for a while and then appeared on The Apprentice. It took a while to find my calling, but after all that I realised I really wanted to develop and build the skin care range I already had! So that’s exactly what I’m doing now!

JOLIEMAG

What are your favourite beauty products? Needless to say, I adore the whole Tropic Skin Care range as I developed products after years of perfecting our precious recipes. My absolute favourite is the Smoothing Cleanser; it’s really rich and comes with a super soft organic Bamboo Cloth that makes my skin feel amazing afterwards! I’m also developing a serum with some

‘find a y o u ’ l l n e j o b y o u l o v e, a n d ver h d a y i n y oa v e t o w o r k a ur life’ new natural ingredient breakthroughs that literally volumise your skin. I’ve been using that a lot to keep my skin looking smooth. Makeup-wise, I love Tropic Skin Care’s Lip Love, I use it all the time to keep my lips looking plump and rosy. What is your best beauty tip? Steaming! Especially if you have congested skin like me. You pick up so much dirt and pollution on your skin during the day that can leave it looking dull. I have a face steaming machine that I use on a weekly basis and it just makes my skin so clear and radiant afterwards. Where is your favourite place to go shopping for beauty products? I don’t have much time to shop so I usually buy all my products online at the JolieBox UK online shop or FeelUnique.

SPRING TRENDS This month we tackle two of the season’s biggest trends - pastels and boho – and give you the lowdown on what beauty products to pair them with.

PASTELS Probably the easiest trend to pull off, pastels bring out the beauty of an English rose complexion and instantly flatter more tanned skintones. Channel pastel hues by mixing up a nude chiffon maxi shirt with a baby pink crop jumper or wear a mint green maxi dress for a completely pastel look.

WEAR WITH... Keep your makeup simple, with the emphasis on peachy cheeks and glossy lips. Try blending the Stila Convertible Colour in Gerbera over your apples to create a rosy glow and apply a pale pink gloss like Clinique’s Superbalm Moisturising Gloss in Grapefruit to the lips to add a hint of colour.

BOHO

When it comes to boho, the bigger the better! Pair loose-fitting tops with flowing skirts or contrast a baggy jumper with skinny trousers. The key here is to pick neutral shades or dark-coloured prints and accessorise with plenty of jewellery.

WEAR WITH...

Hair is a big part of the boho trend, wear it down and tousled. To give your locks that textured look, spray in Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray for that ultimate laid back style. Continue the neutral theme with your makeup by using neutral blush and lip colours and drawing focus to the eyes by smudging Laura Mercier’s Metallic Crème Eye Colour in Burnished Copper all over the lids.
