Our team has also picked out gifts for any beauty lover—as well as what we’re coveting for ourselves, of course. Need some day to night tips? We’ve got you covered. Our very own Ally demos an easy way to transition your look from work to play using a few crucial products.

And what better way to kick things off than with a chat with a party guru? This month’s JolieCrush is with Fiona Leahy, event planner extraordinaire. From designing Dita Von Teese and Marilyn Manson’s wedding to organising hipster birthday parties with the likes of Jade Jagger and Mark Ronson, Leahy is the ultimate hostess—not to mention the selfproclaimed ‘Queen of Glitter.’ She told us her top party-planning tips, her Holy Grail products, and how to master grown up sparkle.

We also hit the beautiful cobbled streets of Covent Garden to get winter style inspiration—you’ll want to be BFF’s with this month’s ladies. And finally, in our JolieSocial section, we’ve got behind-the-scenes pictures from this month’s shoots, a few of our favourite tweets, and much more. Happy Christmas!

JOLIECRUSH FIONA LEAHY

Fiona Leahy This holiday season, we’re getting into the spirit by chatting up Fiona Leahy (fionaleahy.com), party planner extraordinaire. Formerly a stylist at ID magazine and a fine jewellery consultant designer for Louis Vuitton, this Irish-born, London-based beauty stages everything from glam fashion events to Middle Eastern royal weddings. Here, we talk about holiday party etiquette, day-to-night tricks, and a certain burlesque dancer.

How did you get into party planning? Well, I started off in fashion, which led me to jewellery. Then, while working as assistant creative director at Garrard, I started to help plan the company’s events—and I loved the hands-on aspect of the job.

You are known for having designed and produced the nuptials of Marilyn Manson and Dita Von Teese. How did that come about? I actually hired Dita for her first European performance when I was at Garrard. We stayed in touch, and when they decided to get married she asked me to do the wedding. That was five years ago and I haven’t stopped since.

It sounds like it was quite the affair—she wore a royal purple wedding dress, after all. It was my first-ever wedding and it is still my favourite. It was incredible to work with two people who have such amazing taste.

Are you planning any particularly fun events right now?

What are the five beauty products that you could not survive this holiday season without?

We are doing a lot of holiday parties, of course. For one of them, we’ve come up with a Gold and Black theme: imagine piñatas filled with gilded treasures, and gold model trains transporting dark chocolates. We’ll also have a big-name DJ—a surprise for the guests.

- Gypsy Water by Byredo — it’s my scent. - The black liquid eyeliner from MAC is a classic. - Leonor Greyl’s Huile de Palme works wonders on the ends of my hair—and the fragrance makes me feel like I’ve just rolled around in a field of jasmine.

Can you offer any easy day-tonight tips? A pair of heels by Louboutin always makes me feel evening-ready, and deep red lips transform a daytime face; Muse Red from Dita Von Teese’s range for Art Deco is my current shade. In terms of setting the mood, lighting makes all the difference—I’ll sometimes light hundreds of tea lights and fragranced candles from the Paris-based company Cire Trudon.

- For a luxuriously relaxing bath, I use the Moroccan Rose Otto oil by Ren. - And while it’s not a product per se, a red half moon mani from Hula Nails, a Hawaii-inspired salon in Farringdon, is quite festive.

What is most likely to make or break a party? The music. If you can’t afford a DJ, take some time to create brilliant playlists!

Back to bringing a gift: choosing one can be tricky…

Ever use glitter? Yes—lots! I have been known to dispense lashings of it via glitter guns, pre-event. I also use lots of shimmer curtains—an inexpensive yet effective way to cover boring walls while adding drama to an occasion.

You want to get something thoughtful that he or she can enjoy post-party. A massage or a fine bottle of wine is always a winner. But I think the chicest gift I ever received as a host was a small white truffle, wrapped in tissue. I am equally happy with a good jar of chutney, too.

In terms of beauty, I personally am less about over-the-top glitter and more about a radiant glow. NARS Copacabana Multiple, a creamy colour stick that can be used on the eyes, cheeks, lips, and decolletage, gives me a shimmery finish. And lately, I’ve been using an eye shadow by Tom Ford Beauty that has a subtle sparkle to it.

What’s on your wish list this year? I love experience gifts—like a voucher from the School of Life. And I’m always happy to get a good book. Other than that, surprises are nice.

What are you looking forward to most this holiday season?

Do you have any rules regarding holiday party etiquette?

Big long country walks with my family in Ireland—and hopefully my dog, if I can find an airline that will fly him there! Otherwise, having time to read and relax and reflect and play Scrabble—and to put the finishing touches on my online emporium, which launches in February.

Just these three: RSVP, bring your host a gift, and say “thank you.” A hand-written card is always welcome—and noted.

Bliss London 60 Sloane Ave London SW3 3DD 020 7590 6146

BLISS SPA, LONDON

Bliss Spa, London a blend of pure pressurising oxygen, vitamins, and antioxidants. There’s a chance you may feel a little poked and prodded— especially during the extraction phase— but the results truly are immediate, making it the ideal pre-soiree treatment.

In the heart of Sloane Square, Bliss Spa is a fun—and exceedingly stylish—contrast to its swanky neighborhood. With its modern décor and always-bustling manipedi section—equipped with overhead screens playing reruns Sex and the City— the spa is known for its contemporary approach to spa-ing. It’s no wonder that savvy Londoners line up for its effective, indulgent treatments.

Seasonal Indulgence The limited edition berry merry mani+pedi is a festive holiday treat. First, your feet are prepped with raspberry-infused scrubs, suds, and butters. Then, while your nails are being lacquered in the shade of your choice (may we suggest ontrend oxblood?), you settle back and enjoy pink champagne and chocolate treats.

Bliss is deservedly famous for its signature facials (the oxygen version is the closest you can get to a facelift without a knife) and ‘pain-free’ waxing, and is constantly rolling out new therapies. We recently popped by the spa to check out their latest offerings. Our favourite part (beyond the treatment, of course)? The snack and brownie buffet that greets you upon arrival in the lounge area. Here, our guide to maximising your bliss (spa) this season.

Spa To Go For a spa experience at home, pick up bliss’ that’s incredi-‘peel’ pads. These convenient single-use sachets are soaked in glycolic acid and help to exfoliate dead skin. Just run the pad across cleansed skin at night once or twice a week for super smooth results.

Signature Splurge: Triple Oxygen Treatment

Grace Gargini

The spa’s most popular offering, the triple oxygen treatment, has been going strong since bliss launched in 1996. What makes it so special? Studies show that oxygen levels are key to helping your cells resurface and regenerate, which in turn reveals a fresh layer of skin. After a thorough cleanse, the aesthetician hovers a small plastic hose over your face that contains

JOLIELESSON DAY TO NIGHT

Day to Night The holidays may be the most wonderful time of year but they’re also the busiest time of year. It’s easy to end up booked back to back (or double-booked!), with little time to spruce up for the festivities. That’s why we’ve come up with a gorgeous day-to-night look that you can get with a few crucial products. Start with a lightweight foundation that is buildable so you can reapply or touch up before you head out at night. Bourjois’ Healthy Mix Foundation is both hydrating and natural-looking. Blend the creamy formulation into your skin using your fingers. Keep things simple and fresh with Jane Iredale’s Lip and Cheek Stain—dab a bit onto the apples of your cheeks and smooth toward your hairline, then tap a bit onto your lips. Finish with Benefit’s they’re Real! Mascara, which adds dramatic volume and length (and lasts all day!).

DAY TO NIGHT

To take your look from daytime to party, you’ll want two key products: a killer liquid liner and a bold lip colour. The Studio Makeup Liquid Eyeliner has a pen-style felt tip that makes it easy to get a precise line. If you’re not confident with liquid liner, try this easy trick: apply a line of dots along your upper lashline and then join them together. Don’t forget to flick the liner up at the outer corners. Freshen up your skin with a dusting of bronzer and concealer on areas that need them. Top things off with your favourite punchy lip: we love Kate Moss’for Rimmel’s pinky-toned red. JOLIETEAM GIFT GUIDE

Gift Guide

The JolieBox team shares the beauty treats they’re giving others this season (plus what they’re coveting for themselves, of course!)

Grace, JolieMag Editor

To Gift 1. KARL LAGERFELD FOR SHU UEMURA EYELASH CURLER £20 Think sophisticated stocking filler. Although they’re not the flashiest beauty product on the Christmas shelves, these eyelash curlers are an indispensable make-up staple. The classic design has been revamped with Lagerfeld’s stylish ‘Mon Shu Girl’ charm.

2. TAAJ HIMALAYA MICELLAR WATER

To Gift

Available on our Eshop!

£16 I have very sensitive eyes and most make-up removers really sting my eyes (even the ones who claim to be ‘gentle’). So when I first tried this Micellaire Water by Taaj, I was hooked. It’s by far the product I get through the most! I soak two cotton pads with the formula and then apply to my eyes for about 30 seconds. When I take them away, all my makeup—including waterproof make-up— comes off, leaving squeaky clean eyes.

Ally, Editorial and Social Media Assistant

3. NEAL’S YARD REMEDIES, FRANKINCENSE ORGANIC FACE COLLECTION £39.50

As a skincare junkie, I can attest that this luxurious set is a dream gift for anyone who gets more excited about anti-ageing creams than lip glosses. With products from Neal’s Yard’s cult Frankincense range, it takes care of your entire skincare regime—from the all-important Rejuvinating Cleanser and Muslin Cloth to a Rejuvinating Toner and Hydrating Cream. One tip for you or your lucky giftee: if you commit to a hot cloth cleanse three times a week, you’ll notice a difference straight away.

To Get 4. TANGLE TEEZER, SALON ELITE IN BLUE BELLA

£11.20

During the winter months, when I go around swaddled in a chunky scarf and beret combo, I always arrive at the office with the most unappealing hair style. This well-loved Tangle Teezer is topping my Christmas list. Because of its compact size, it won’t weigh down my handbag and the soft bristles won’t tug at my strands. Fingers crossed Santa will put it in my stocking. JOLIEMAG

Since bright lip colours are such a favourite Christmas-y look, it’s good to keep the rest of your make-up subdued. That’s why Benefit’s Coralista blusher is such a great product to gift any make-up lover – it’s a soft coral shade with just the right amount of shimmer. It suits a range of skin tones.

Adrienne, Office Manager To Get 7. EVE LOM, CLEANSER

I was lucky enough to be treated to an Eve Lom Facial earlier this year and have been lusting after this cleanser ever since. Eve Lom’s Cleansing Ritual, using her trademark cleansing balm and muslin cloth, is so simple but it works miracles! I’m crossing my fingers to find this under the tree.

I Love...Cosmetics

Pairing cheery style with delicious formulas, this UK-based brand has one goal: to make customers happy. (Mission accomplished.) addicted to their Shimmer & Shine Lip Gloss, which has a non-sticky formula and subtle glimmer.

If I Love…Cosmetics had their way, we’d update our bathroom shelf as much as we did our wardrobe. Now that we think of it, they’re not too far off. The cheeky beauty company was founded in 2008 by creative director James Brown and Mike Basso. Since then, the Manchesterbased brand has expanded globally and is constantly rolling out new products, from lush body butters to decadent bath treats. The aim has always been to connect with consumer’s everyday lives by designing fun, functional, fragrant products that evoke memories of refreshment and indulgence, says Brown.

BEHIND THE BRAND I LOVE...COSMETICS

The company has already has plenty of news this year, from their patriotic Best of British limited edition (what better way to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee?) to festive gift sets. But what we’re most excited about is their brand-new sister brand, Balmi. They’ve taken their fun meets function approach to lipcare with Balmi, a line of delightfully spherical balms. Each is loaded with vitamin E, shea butter, jojoba oil, and SPF 15 to keep skin hydrated and protected. Unlike pots, which can be unhygienic, the Balmi comes in a cute rubberized ball that you just apply directly to your lips. Fruity flavours like Coconut and Blackcurrant ensure that lips smell as good as they feel. We love them and we’re in good company. Balmi already has a devoted following of fashionistas and athletes, including sailor Stuart Bithell who recently tweeted his balm love to @GoBalmi. Learn more about I Love... INGREDIENT DECODER HYALURONIC ACID

Hyaluronic Acid • DR. DUVE ANTI-AGING & CLARIFYING FACE CREAM. A German dermatologist developed this new hydrator for those worried about wrinkles and blemishes. It pairs a gentle dose of pore-purging salicylic acid with volume-boosting hyaluronic acid.

Winter brings the prospects of endless holiday feasting and the excuse to stock up on cozy new sweaters, but it also brings a host of complexion woes—as evidenced by those weird flaky patches on our cheeks. Now that our skin has turned as dry as the Arctic tundra, it’s time for an intervention. Our solution? Products infused with hyaluronic acid.

• ANTIPODES IMMORTAL PERFORMANCE PLUS. All the moisturizer in the world won’t save your skin if you don’t wear sunscreen. This organic New Zealand brand’s SPF 15 lotion uses plant-based hyaluronic acid, plus kiwi extract to calm irritation.

In case you haven’t heard the buzz, this ingredient is famed for holding up to 1,000 times its weight in water. But what does that mean? Brief chemistry lesson: hyaluronic acid may sound like a lab scientist’s invention, but your skin actually produces it naturally. Found beneath the dermis (translation: outer layer), it helps your tissues stay hydrated. When you apply the ingredient to your skin’s surface, it plumps up your face by forming an invisible film of moisture, filling in lines and reducing water loss.

• FILORGA HYAL-DEFENCE COMPLETE PROTECTIVE HYALURONIC ACID SERUM®. French women are flocking to this skinplumping serum, which contains cosmetic-grade hyaluronic acid and comes in a hygienic airless pump dispenser. • WEI GINGKO LEAF REPAIRING FACE TREATMENT PADS. Schedule in ten minutes to treat yourself to this tingly sheet mask, which has an instant tightening effect. Follow up by smoothing on the brand’s Royal Ming firming and hydrating cream for a spa-worthy anti-aging treatment.

In addition to giving skin a dewy glow, hyaluronic acid is a lifesaver for those with superdry skin because it boosts the hydrating properties of your usual products. Try layering it under your favorite moisturiser this winter, or switch out your usual products for hyaluronic acidloaded ones. Here are some of our faves.

JOLIESTYLE

COVENT GARDEN, LONDON

Alice

Television Producer The first thing we noticed about Alice wasn’t her make-up, but her fabulous felt hat from British designer Margaret Howell. She paired it with a cool, lowmaintenance look: a subtle smoky liner courtesy of a MAC Kohl Pencil and a soft flushed cheek. We have a major girl crush on this lady.

1 With the Christmas season in full swing, there’s no better place to soak up the festive splendour than Covent Garden. Here, the streets are sprinkled in fairy lights, the shops are festooned with shiny ornaments, and the air is filled with the spicy scent of mulled wine—not to mention that grand Christmas tree standing tall in the middle of the infamous courtyard. We wandered the cobbled streets and found more than a few eye-catching ladies, snuggled up in their chic winter gear...

Fumina

Beauty School Student We spotted a group of smart-looking students chit chatting under the Christmas tree. Among them was Fumina, a porcelain-skinned, ombre-haired beauty sporting a woolly beret. We discovered that she was wearing one of our most loved brands, RMK, plus a touch of Maybelline mascara to get incredible volumised lashes.
