LUCY TAMMAM

Eco Couturier at Tammam.co.uk Tell us about your background? I was born and bred on the south coast but moved to London over a decade ago to study fashion at Central Saint Martins. After my degree I trained as a classical bespoke menswear tailor, worked with high end fashion labels and in couture ateliers and travelled to India and Nepal, where I found my calling. I started my first eco fashion label in 2006 and launched Tammam bridal couture in 2009. What makes you the ultimate Joliesta? I am not complicated when it comes to beauty. For me it’s all or nothing, I either have my red lips on or no makeup at all. I love vintage glamour and you can often find me with my rollers in - I even use old-school setting lotion, it’s the best way to get those vintage curls! I like to keep it simple and I’m obsessed with eco and organic products. I am definitely the ultimate ethical JolieSta!

What products do you tend to reach for on a daily basis? I couldn’t live without my Palmers Cocoa Butter Lip Balm, it saves my dry lips. I adore the way Senteurs de Fée Nectar de Rose makes my face feel so soft. I also love the Himalaya Face Scrubs that I buy when I am in India.

MAC Russian Red lipstick – I wish there was an eco-lipstick as good as this, but at least I know that I’ll use every last bit! House of Jamal Perfume Oil Roll-On, which you can mix and match depending on your mood is great. My favourites are Paris Flowers and Pearl. I do love a pedicure, more of a treat than a product but it’s the best thing to save tired and sore feet! Where do you like to shop for beauty and fashion pieces? I like to use organic beauty products from small independent companies; I find the best are ones are in the most random places. I made a commitment to only wearing ethical clothing a few years ago, my basics come from wonderful designers such as Nancy Dee and Outsider and for glam occasions I love a bit of Elena Garcia or of course some Tammam couture. On line boutiques like Rococo and The Natural Store are great places to find unique eco pieces and I like to check out charity and vintage shops whenever I visit new cities.

BOUDOSI,R LASHE N LONDO

Asma’s expert skill for fine, detailed work in false eyelash application has made her a highly sought after name in beauty. With over eight year’s of experience in the industry, she certainly knows a thing or two about beauty! Boudoir Lashes, Asma’s first lash lounge, opened last October and specialises in treatments for the lash and brow area. If you like to keep your eye makeup simple and yearn for longer lashes or if you wish to spend an extra 10 minutes in bed in the morning instead of grooming your eyebrows then the naturally-enhancing treatments offered will be right up your street.

For fluttery, flirtatious and feminine eyelashes add a trip to Boudoir Lashes on your ‘To Do’ list. Set-up at the BECCA Cosmetics flagship store in London’s South Kensington and run by the talented Asma Docrat, Boudoir Lashes is the perfect solution to your eyelash woes.

We trekked over to Boudoir Lashes to test out Asma’s eyelash extension service. If you’re unfamiliar with the concept, eyelash extensions consist of individual false lashes being inserted over your own lashes one lash at a time. These extensions can last up to six weeks if cared for correctly, are completely waterproof and eliminate the need for mascara. The results are lengthened and curled lashes all day - everyday! JOLIEMAG

N°3 May 2012

Asma has perfected her technique using a mixture of the ‘Lash Perfect’ and ‘NovaLash’ systems to individually tailor each set of eyelash extensions to each clients need. You can choose from four different services depending on how dramatic you wish to go - ranging from the ‘Flutter Effect’ for those wanting a natural appearance, to the ‘Volume Effect’ for a fuller, more glamourous look.

We love our Boudoir Lashes so much that we have prepared a special offer just for you! If you fancy treating yourself to Boudoir Lashes eyelash extensions then head over to page 18 to see how JolieMag readers can redeem their exclusive discount!

The application of Boudoir Lashes is completely relaxing - don’t worry, we can vouch for that! The lash lounge is set up in a quiet area of the BECCA Boutique and all you have to do is lay back, close your eyes and let Asma work her eyelash magic! We were delighted with the results weeks later and they are still going strong. To work your new eyelash extensions to their full extent why not book in a BECCA makeover? We were transformed by Ana Ospina and I don’t think our skin has ever looked so glowy and radiant. We walked out of the salon feeling über glamourous and we haven’t stopped fluttering our lashes since! JOLIEMAG

? S M A E R C B B E R WHAT A that one product can be used to gain the same results as using six different products. BB Creams help to brighten the skin and create a moisturised base for makeup much like a primer, they even out the complexion in a similar way to a tinted moisturiser and like a concealer they cover blemishes and imperfections. They also contain the hydrating properties of a moisturiser, the UV protection of a sun cream and anti-aging ingredients more often found in serums. There are no set rules to as to how to use your BB Cream but its best applied as the last step in your skincare routine and can be used either alone or under foundation if you wish for more coverage.

They exploded onto the UK beauty scene last Summer and show no signs of leaving anytime soon with BB Creams being set to top the makeup charts again this season. If you’re still confused about them then let us give you your BB education! The ‘BB’ in BB Cream stands for Blemish or Beblesh Balm and actually originated in Germany in the fifties with the purpose to regenerate the skin of patients who had received laser surgery. The cream not only soothed and protected the skin, but also covered redness and evened out the skintone. The formula was then picked up by cosmetic companies in Korea who adapted its composition and brought it to market. After a flurry of Korean actresses attributed their flawless complexions to BB creams, sales skyrocketed, cosmetics companies from all around the world listened up and BB-fever spread worldwide!

Fa ce Bl em ish Ba lm TA AJ

So what do BB Creams actually do? Well they offer a light coverage to the skin without clogging pores, help to hide pigmentation and discolouration, soften and smooth the skin and protect against sun damage, resulting in a unique skincare/makeup hybrid. They are usually offered in one universally flattering shade. The idea is

AKGUN MANISALI

Makeup Artist from Akgunmakeup.com

What’s your job? I’m a Freelance Makeup Artist as well as Head Makeup Artist for RMK cosmetics here in the UK. How did you get into the beauty world? Whenever I went shopping with my mother I always wanted to look down the beauty aisles. If I ever disappeared she used to find me in the beauty section swatching products and reading ingredients. I still do it now, it’s my favourite hobby! After University I started to work for an advertising agency, I loved it too but my heart was in beauty and makeup. One day I quit my job, got training here in London and rest is history!

Skin tune r Ex Moi st RMK

Describe a typical day at work for you? If it’s editorial work it’s usually an early start and then I work all day. If it’s a private client which is my favourite, it depends on their timing. I love transforming people; I don’t like to rush and I really like to take the time to pick out suitable products and styles for them. Our skin texture changes all the time so you can’t use same texture or same base on everyone. If it’s a new client I need to know their beauty regime and talk it through with them. I want them to look and feel their best with or without me and I think it’s important for them to be using the right products. JOLIEMAG

What are your favourite beauty products to use on clients? I am a big fan of skincare products. If you look after you skin, keep it clean and moisturised, your make up looks flawless without too many products on your face. One of my favourite products is the RMK Skintuner Ex Moist; it’s lightweight, penetrates deep into your skin and keeps it moisturised all day long. French pharmacy brands offer a nice range of products as well and are amazing value. I’m not big on covering your face with layers of foundation and making it look cakey. I like to dot a lightweight, seamless foundation wherever you need it and then perhaps a touch of concealer where you need more coverage. What is your best beauty tip? Always cleanse, tone and moisturise your skin. And don’t forget, less is more! Where is your favourite place to go shopping for beauty products? I love French pharmacies, they’re the best! More and more you can get similar products here in the UK in larger pharmacies. I used to live in Japan and they have big beauty stores as well, heaven! But a big advantage of living in the UK, especially in London is that there are lots of beauty and makeup trade shows, massive exhibitions featuring local and international products. I love going and getting lost at them!

joliEnews Expert L ip o c il s TA L I K A

The Expert of Specific Treatments We first discovered Talika after they featured in JolieBox France; a brand known for their products that answer the specific beauty needs of today’s women. Their bestselling Lipocils eyelash growth product, that some of you received in this month’s box, instantly caught our eye! Developed over 50 years ago by a young French doctor, Danielle Roches, Talika originally was an anti-bacterial cream made of plant extracts used to treat casualties of war in Parisian hospitals. Dr. Roches noted that the product not only promoted healing of wounds, but also had a dramatic secondary benefit: significant and measurable eyelash growth. From this discovery, the company was born, specialising in products for the eyelashes and brows.

Bust Ph ytoseru m TA L I K A

So how exactly does it work? Well a combination of mangosteen, quince and sea kelp bioferment encourage the natural retention of fats in adipocytes and help to improve skin elasticity in the chest area; Gugul, a resin traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine fortifies fat storage and increases breast volume and Hyaluronic acid plumps and hydrates the skin. After 28 days Talika Bust Phytoserum increases volume, firmness, lift and hydration.

But this month marks a big move for Talika as they launch the Bust Phytoserum - a ‘push-up’ effect serum for the decollage area. The natural formula is clinically proven to provide visible firming and lifting results in just six weeks. Improving on their previous products for the chest area, the Bust Phytoserum is infused with even more plant-based active ingredients to intensify plumping, enhance curves and leave the breasts looking their best.

If you’d like to see the results for yourself then the Talika Bust Phytoserum 50ml is available now exclusively at Boots, priced at £35.

RMK Japan’s Best-Selling Makeup Brand “To me, make-up is about making you feel happier, sexier and fresher. It’s not something that masks your natural skin. It exists as a factor to bring out the beauty within you.” – Rumiko, RMK Founder

our February JolieBox. Based on their philosophy every RMK product reflects Rumiko‘s dedication to quality and she’s involved in every step of each collection: from production all the way through to packaging.

Founded in March 1997 by Rumiko, the renowned Japanese Makeup Artist, RMK is a chic cosmetics brand producing breakthrough formulations, easy to use textures and genuine beauty innovations. A celebrated brand from Japan, outselling every other brand in one of the biggest beauty markets in the world, with over 2 million users of its Makeup Base and Liquid Foundation alone!

Rumiko herself has a very interesting history behind her. After studying in New York she began her career as a Makeup Artist and quickly established herself as one of the best in the business working on the cover, fashion and beauty pages of Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. Rumiko says that her inspiration is often from art, films, scenery she’s encountered, things that touched and echo with her aesthetic perceptivity.
