UN TREN Y UNA GRANJA Entre la ciudad de Québec y Charlevoix sucede algo mágico, y para conocerlo sólo hay que situarse sobre los rieles que nos lleven al campo.

la izquierda tenemos las cataratas Montmorency, con 83 metros de altura (30 más que las del Niágara); a la derecha, el río Saint Laurent, justo donde éste se hace más estrecho. Nos situamos en la ciudad de Québec, capital de la provincia del mismo nombre, en la estación de Le Massif. Afirmar que es uno de los trenes más bonitos, con una de las vistas más hermosas del mundo quizá sería demasiado; pero sin duda ocupa el número uno de los trenes en los cuales he viajado. Los interiores bañados en color claro, los techos altísimos y los ventanales que no permiten perderse ningún detalle de la vista, hacen que la experiencia misma del viaje tenga la misma importancia que el destino al cual nos dirigimos. En los primeros 32 km del recorrido tendremos de vista a L’Île d’Orléans, pero los 50 restantes veremos al Saint Laurent en toda

su grandeza; hasta llegar a Baie Saint-Paul, donde tenemos una cita con La Ferme, un hotel que promete irrumpir, a su vez, en mi Top 10 de la categoría. Puros buenos augurios. A la llegada a la estación puedo comprender que las imágenes del folleto hacen poca justicia. Todo el complejo mantiene el estilo y la arquitectura de los grandes graneros de la zona, pero con un toque ultra moderno. Cada uno de los cinco pabellones que lo conforman presenta un diseño y un ambiente distinto, pero todos presentan cualidades comunes: la comodidad de los hoteles de lujo, los servicios y amenidades de primer nivel, y una vista impresionante. Construída donde solía estar la antigua La Ferme, en su momento una de las granjas más grandes de Canadá; la cual, tras el incendio de 2007, quedó reducida a cenizas. El espacio que dejó en el paisaje, y en la comunidad de Baie Saint-Paul, sólo podía ser llenado por un proyecto de este tamaño, de esta importancia. the Le Massif station. We might say it’s one of the most beautiful trains, but it might be too much; it certainly ranks number one in the trains which I have traveled. The interiors bathed in light color, high ceilings and windows that do not allow to miss any detail of the view, make the experience of the journey as important as the destination to which we are headed. In the first 32 km we’ll see L’Île d’Orléans, but the remaining 50 we’ll be able to see the Saint Laurent in all its greatness; until we reach Baie Saint-Paul, where we have an appointment with La Ferme, a hotel that
promises to break in my Top 10 list of the category. Pure good wishes. On arrival at the station I can understand that brochures do little justice. The entire complex maintains the style and architecture of the great barns of the area, but with a ultra modern touch. Each of the five wards that forms La Ferme has a different design and atmosphere, but all have common qualities: the comfort of luxury hotels, services and premier amenities and a breathtaking view. Built where the old La Ferme, at the time one of the largest farms in Canada; which, after a fire in 2007, was reduced to ashes. The space left in the landscape, and in the community of Baie Saint-Paul, could only be filled by a project of this size, of this importance.
