www.rgu.ac.uk/nursing
Our ongoing collaboration with our NHS and independent sector partners, service users and carers ensures that the delivery of education is contemporary, evidence-based and meets the needs of the health and social care services. We have strong links with our partners including the private sector, covering both hospital and community settings. This strong partnership also allows us to offer a diverse range of highquality placements, whichever field or discipline of practice you decide to study. Our course portfolio has a strong focus on linking theory to practice with 50% of your time spent on practice placements giving you exposure to the 24/7 nature of nursing, midwifery and paramedic practice, a requirement of the Nursing and Midwifery Council and the Health and Care Professions Council. These will take place across a breadth of health and social care settings and in a range of geographical locations, giving you urban, remote and rural practice experience. Whilst on campus your learning experience will be enhanced through our newly refurbished state-of-the-art Clinical Skills Centre which allows you to practice your skills in a realistic but safe environment on simulated and real volunteer patients. The Centre contains hospital ward areas, a high dependency unit, a children’s room and a home setting. You may also be exposed to real life simulated emergency scenarios so you can practice and reflect on your response with support from our dedicated staff. Another important focus of all our courses is the opportunity to learn alongside students from other health professions including physiotherapy, social work, radiography, medicine and occupational therapy. The interprofessional learning is designed to facilitate learning about other professions and the exploration of team working within health and social care. This means that you’ll be wellprepared for this kind of team work when you are out on placement and full-time in the workforce.
The wide range of education and development opportunities provided by our School combines challenge with the reward of doing something truly worthwhile with your career. Our education programmes are innovative in their approach, with a strong emphasis on practice-based learning, allowing you to apply your new knowledge to your own area of practice, interest or area of career ambition.
This is an exciting time for the development of nursing, midwifery and paramedic practice. We’re currently experiencing some radical changes in the delivery of health and social care and, as a result, the level of knowledge and skills required by nurses, midwives, paramedics and allied health professionals has never been greater.
