School Bell

The prestigious “School Bell” Award for 2013 was given to Brenda Nyhof and Gary Ellis. Chosen by the administrative staff annually to go to a person or group who has gone “above and beyond” for the school district, the School Bell was aptly awarded to these two dedicated administrators. Brenda, who began her career as a teacher in the Alterna tive High School, developed a passion for this population of students and has transformed Allegan’s program into one of the top in the state! Gary has been an icon at Allegan High School for 39 years, including two stints as athletic director. He has mentored dozens of coaches, and impacted countless student-athletes as he built a highly successful tennis program in Allegan. Gary has also earned the respect of his peers throughout the Wolverine Conference, earning local and state awards for coaching. Both winners will be retiring this year, but both will be returning in some capacity--Brenda as Adult Ed coordinator (including virtual learning) and Gary plans to stay on as tennis coach.
