HOUSE 01 DESIGN STRATEGY & COMMUNICATION
This Study focused on the changing ways Architecture is communicated, using on the emerging design tool, Unreal Engine. Concentrating on the development of Virtual Reality environments and their benefit in architecture. The building used for this was an experimental design done for a private client to help them realise the potential designs that could be developed on the site. Through VR, the design was demonstrated to achieve an architecturally coherent design. Environmentally the architecture additionally utilised methods developed from previous environmental studies, via exploitation of orientation, and use of natural wind vectors. This coupled with an aesthetically coherent design, allowed for the communication necessary for the client to understand the intent behind architecture.
The intent behind the design was to develop a holiday house for two couples, creating a retreat that allowed for sanctuary and entertainment. Level 01 is designed as two separate bedroom units that can accommodate both couples, giving them separate experiences of the landscape providing an escape from the public surroundings. Both these private rooms have their own facilities allowing them to act on their own to the rest of the site allowing the residents to act independently to each other. The ground floor provides the public rooms of the site, connecting between the exterior entertainment areas. All of these areas are open floor plan allowing for flexibility across the ground level, providing adaptability for the use of the residents.

The building is placed on the site in a way to utilised the cross ventilation of the breezes across the lake. Additionally the windows are set up as double glazed units accommodating external timber battened louvers that provide sun shading for the building reducing the heat load on the building.
