F ashion designers previewing their collection, makeup artists and hairstylists prepping a client for a Hollywood red carpet, and photographers with a full production team

working on a photo shoot, are just one of the few things you can expect on any given day at the BurgerRock Media showroom, a downtown Los Angeles self professed 'media madhouse'. You may also see entrepreneurs doing anything from closing deals to hosting product launches, and creatives collaboratively working on their next big idea. This space offers so much more than a traditional showroom. Founded by mover, shaker, fashionista, and publicist Irma PeĂąuĂąuri, this creative hub is a full of innovation and constant flow of talent. She had a vision for a 'showroom like no other' and BurgerRock Media's new space was her blank canvas to do so. In the beginning when she created Burgerrock Media it was specifically a public relations agency but now they are broadening their horizons to now offer a showroom under their umbrella. The agency represents a wide array of clients ranging from fashion designers, artists, influencers, and much more. Known for being hands on from major movie premiere red carpets to fashion weeks, Irma is involved with her clients every step of the way. As much as she enjoys being on location at the runway shows, red carpets, and editorial shoots, she realized her clients needed a home. This space features the brands she represents and gives them a place to engage with the public and continue to creatively develop their craft. Penunuri previously co-owned a showroom that was more traditional, only housing fashion designers, but she felt it was limited to all the things she wanted to do. This time around, she wanted to create something that breaks the mode of a traditional showroom and not only just include fashion designers, but also influencers,

"The main thing I look for within a client is that they have passion, love for their product, and love what they are doing" 63

Located on the corner of 11th and Main St in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, the showroom is truly a unique experience. In the front of the showroom, it's set up so that each designer has their own space similarly to how a store like Neiman Marcus or Saks would have organized spaces specifically for each designer. In the back there's a space for hair and make up, a photography section, and different backgrounds with props clients can use for photo shoots. Instagramable and full of personality the photography section of the showroom has a lot of different options for photos. What are the most memorable moments with your clients? The Obama and J Balvin collaboration was probably the top one from the year past which was published in Rolling Stone magazine this past year. Another one was with my client Keith&James, he's had great memorable placements. Also Christian Loubution keeps wearing his hats and I was apart of that introduction. And one of my clients is a mom who has a small business and she recently got into magazines and got a lot of high end editorial. This year I really pushed the limit with going and taking designers to fashion weeks. So this year was the first year I did Paris Fashion Week, Eddie Corps one of my designers featured his collection. Also going to Tokyo Fashion Week was an incredible experience. For people interested what would you say some requirements are to meet the standards? I want all kinds of clients. I can take on anything besides sports. Designers, talent, meaning like influencers, anything dealing with entertainment, and I also I have companies that I do their PR. Anyone that needs to grow in the public eye.

ENTERING THE 2020s:

REMEMBERING 6 DEFINING FASHION MOMENTS OF THE 2010s

A

By SHARON JANE @sharon.js

dazzling new decade has arrived, and it has already shown us that it will be an exciting one. Our optimism for a fresh new start is keeping us on our toes for the upcoming moments that will define the 2020s. As we look forward to our future milestones, let’s look back at 6 defining fashion moments of the 2010s.

EVERYBODY IS BEAUTIFUL

1

Fashion has always seemed to be the kind of artform to spark the most controversy. As the internet kept being splashed with major editorial photoshop fails, tragic cases of models with eating disorders and insecurities, and a constant sea of comments of how each individual couldn’t seem to connect with the people they would see wearing the clothes they thought they could never afford to wear. In the past, it has been voiced that the glamorous, unreachable and “perfect” persona fashion has tried to fabricate has had a heaping distance from what’s genuine, honest and safe. When designers and brands began to aim for more realistic campaigns featuring more “realistic” models, people would respond to those brands better, like Aerie and Savage x Fenty which had non-airbrushed, beautifully diverse models showcase their designs. As people began to connect with brands more when they saw body types and faces they could identify with, those brands gained popularity. More importantly, these sorts of campaigns inspired fashion to become aware of how important self-love is and that everybody is beautiful. The 2010s beat the beauty standard fashion created and it increasingly became the most diverse decade with 2019 being the most diverse year for fashion. Campaigns, runways, and even collections were cultivated to cast diverse models and connect with the diversity of each brand’s consumers. We began to admire models of all races, gender, age, size, beliefs, sexuality and so much more and learned to appreciate their inner and outer beauty. It is such a relief to see couture loved, admired, and worn by all kinds of gorgeous people and it is an even bigger relief to see that increasingly reflected everywhere in the fashion industry. We hope that fashion in the 2020’s will be defined by being a safe haven for everyone with no room for discrimination and seen as a liberating form of self-expression and self-love.

THE POWER OF SOCIAL MEDIA

You can say that social media has changed how every industry runs and fashion embraced this fun new digital world with wide-open arms. From Viktor & Rolf’s Meme Gowns from the SS19 haute couture collection, our favorite magazines blessing us with the best YouTube Content, Instagram making it easier to buy things fresh off the runway, twitter updating us every second of every fashion week, to models giving posing tips on Tik Tok - social media has helped every moment of fashion to be a part of us, making it impossible for us to skip a beat. Not only is fashion keeping us updated, but it is certainly creating great content like Glamour magazine’s “100 Years of Fashion” and “Friendship Test” videos, Allure’s celebrity “ Tries 9 Things They’ve Never Done Before” YouTube series, and Vogue’s “Ask Anna” or “73 Questions” series.

During the recent Met Gala, Instagram fed us with wonderfully edited short music videos of the star attendees’ most iconic looks. Designers also have been creating digitally-focused, viral-material campaigns like Calvin Klein’s #MYCALVINS or how brands collaborate with artists with major digital influence like Kanye West creating the Yeezy Boost for Adidas, Billie Eilish being the face of the genderless collection created by MCM, Zendaya creating blockbuster collections with Tommy Hilfiger, JLO walking for Versace wearing a green dress reminiscent of the iconic one she wore at the Grammy’s in 2000, the 2015 Balmain Army campaign featuring the most influential forces of fashion (like the Hadid sisters, Kanye West, the Kardashian-Jenner Clan, Adriana Lima, and Joan Smalls), and Lady Gaga paying homage to Alexander McQueen in her Bad Romance music video which fueled the instant popularity of the Armadillo boot. These are some of the many moments artists helped their audience connect with fashion through their eyes in a way it has not been done before, while also inspiring us to use fashion as a form of self-expression and empowerment.

73 QUESTIONS WITH KENDALL JENNER CREDIT: VOGUE YOUTUBE

I should also mention that models are becoming YouTubers like Karlie Kloss, Romee Strijd, and Naomi Campbell and that YouTubers are becoming models as well, like Alexis Ren, Neels Visser, and Gigi Hadid. Just like that, models, designers, and influential people in fashion know how powerful social media can be and the magnitude of the reach it has which is basically unlimited. According to socialmediaexplorer.com, “90% of shoppers interact with fashion on social media.” With the rise of “See Now, Buy Now” collections and more efficient methods of shopping directly on social media platforms, seeing and purchasing off the runway looks is easier than ever. Social Media has helped fashion become way more reachable, allowing us to stay updated with trends, designers, models, collections and news, as well as allowing us to connect further with fashion as it provides us with a platform of communication and dialogue with the fashion influencers and creators of today. 87

3

KINDNESS IS KEY

With messages of self-love, all-inclusivity, and community, grasping the need of spreading kindness and unity for a purpose is one that is rising. Since the rise of social media, we have been exposed to more of the bad in the world which calls for a comforting cup of kindness. As the world of fashion began to mesh with the world of music and entertainment, they saw just how powerful these two worlds combined can be especially when it comes to spreading a message that calls for meaningful action. Kindness broke the internet when Paper Magazine featured the biggest and most inspiring boy band of today, BTS, who collaborated with Virgil Abloh x Louis Vuitton and Lisa Frank for the Break The Internet Winter 2019 Issue. This Break The Internet issue seamlessly shows how 3 forces can combine to truly break the internet: music, fashion, and art.

BTS X VIRGIL ABLOH X LOUIS VUITTON X LISA FRANK BREAK THE INTERNET PAPER MAGAZINE WINTER 2019 CREDIT: HONG JANG HYUN

Firstly, you have BTS, a South-Korean group (which includes RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook) that started out from (at the time) a small company and they set out to be as honest and real in their artistry as they can which in turn has led them to be the global sensation they are today. In everything they do and create, their message is one of self-love, kindness, and relentlessness with our passions and dreams (among many other amazing messages) and their music has been able to transcend the language barrier and impact many lives. That impact is evident when you see how supportive and global their fans are (myself included, the fans are known as ARMY), and how they follow BTS’s example by starting out their own movements to spread kindness. Up next in the collaboration, you have Virgil Abloh who started out as Kanye West’s artistic director, then created his own now very mainstream label Off-White, and is now the creative director of Louis Vuitton menswear. BTS together with Virgil Abloh and Lisa Frank, whose art inspires self-expression and induces nostalgia to all that debuted her products in middle school, really shows how powerful fashion can be combined with influential artists with a positive message.

TECHNOLOGY & SUSTAINABILITY

We have been overwhelmed by the amount of devastating news seen on all media platforms of how nature is being damaged, ecosystems blazed away, and species becoming extinct. But, thanks to the help of social media and vocal environmental activists like Leonardo Dicaprio, Stella McCartney, and Greta Thunberg (just to name a few), they have been creating awareness and guiding us on how to give nature the healing and protection it deserves. Since fast fashion and the harmful materials used to make it has been some of the leading causes of environmental endangerment, fashion has decided to change its ways like H&M’s Conscious: Close the Loop campaign, Stella McCartney being a pioneer for discovering new methods of creating collections more sustainably, Gabriela Hearst being a leader in finding fresh ways to decrease her carbon footprint, Jean-Paul Gaultier, who recently bid farewell with his last fashion show during Paris Couture Week 2020, used new methods to replace fur and other animal-based materials, and even Prada, after years of PETA protests, has finally decided to ban fur. Thankfully, designers have been inspired to create more eco-friendly collections with exciting sustainable designing methods. We hope this new decade makes more conscious collections and allows our planet to heal and breathe easily.

5

THE REVOLUTION WILL BE TELEVISED

Just like social media has given us a platform of dialogue with creators in fashion, it has given creators a platform to stand up for what they believe in. From protest dressing to designing a collection with a political agenda, the 2010’s showed us that being an activist can be done in style. From Dior’s viral “We Should All Be Feminists” t-shirts, Gabriela Hearst joining the “Save The Children” Board of Trustees in 2018, to Prabal Gurung’s “Who gets to be American?” collection, these are all examples of how impacting fashion can be when it is used as a megaphone to spread a political or philanthropic movement. 6

THE FALLEN AND THE RISING

The 2010’s saw many of fashion’s greatest heroes fall although their artistic contribution and inspiration-fueling personalities will be remembered forever like Alexander Queen, Karl Lagerfeld, Franca Sozzani, Gloria Vanderbilt, Oscar de la Renta, Bill Cunningham, Kate Spade, Azzedine Alaïa, Hubert de Givenchy, and Peter Lindbergh, just to name a few. Although we will be forever grateful for the couture valiants we lost in the past decade, the 2010’s has also welcomed some inspiring industry pioneers with unlimited talent like Alexander Wang, Alessandro Michele, Petra Collins, Virginie Viard, Olivier Rousteing, Tomo Koizumi, Giambattista Valli, Phoebe Philo, Virgil Abloh, Sally LaPointe, Pyer Moss and just so so so many more. It is almost impossible to mention all of those that rose in the past decade that have moved fashion in big ways. With so many rising stars, I’m very excited to see what the new decade will bring and how fashion will be seen through each and everyone of their unique 2020 visions. Well, now that we have gone over 6 of the most defining fashion moments of the 2010’s, let’s welcome this new decade that seemingly promises to already be eventful and will gift us with many more unforgettable defining moments. I hope that this new decade continues to inspire us to love ourselves and to be kind to others. I also hope to see fashion increasingly used as a tool we can look up to for inspiration and to inspire others.

INTERVIEW

BREANNA

MULES Dressing the Stars

We had the chance of sitting down with famous Australian fashion stylist, influencer and SBB THE LABEL Creative Director, Breanna Mules, to talk about her career and how she was inspired to launch her own brand. By GIORGINA CAMBLOR @giny_camblor

W

hen and how did you start in fashion? I started fashion when I was 17 years old. Although I've always loved it... when I was 8 I'd dress up my Bratz Dollz and create mini runway shows for them. I was a creative since day one. I started my brand "SBB" by creating virtual outfit sets and posting them on Instagram. Next thing you know I had Kylie Jenner follow me among many other celebrities. I then began to develop my vision into a clothing brand, a stylists empire; SBB The Label. I had my first runway show in 2015 and created my first design which was a dress Kim Kardashian West purchased herself.

QP

Who was your inspiration growing up? Ok, so I was obsessed with Hilary Duff and Hannah Montana lol!! But to be honest, no one really in particular. I have to thank Kanye West though for inspiring me and sparking my interest to follow my dreams and do what I love. Who are the talents or celebrities you have dressed that you are more proud of or excited about? Nicole Muddaris aka Miss Nikki Baby from Love and Hip Hop. It's so much fun styling Nikki... our aesthetics are very similar, we're both super glam and sexy. When Iwas in LA last year I cleaned out her

wardrobe and styled her a bunch of outfits which was a DREAM come true. I've spoken to a few celebs and discussed with them a few looks and ideas, such as Madison Beer and Pia Mia. Kylie Jenner had reached out in 2016 to style her and Kim Kardashian West as well. Who would you like to dress? Icons! Beyonce, JLo, Cardi B, Rihanna, KKW, Kylie Jenner for sure. That would be the dream and I'm manifesting and working on it. Do you have a favorite fashion designer? I have a few...I honesty couldn't choose just one. Jacquemeus, for being so fun and fresh. Alexandre Vauthier, for being so strong and sexy. Alexander Wang, for being so effortlessly cool, street but chic. Balmain, for being ICONIC and so full of life, the colours and details, nobody else could ever! Rick Owens for his neutral palette, for being so simple but sexy. Do you have plans of moving to Los Angeles? I do... LA is where I need to be. I've always wanted to move there and live my best life and follow and pursue my dreams so I'm currently working on my visa there. LA gets mentioned to me every single day.. people are always like "Why are you here? You belong in LA?"

With that being said I've been modelling this year and it's been so fun so far. I used to when I was 16 but didn't have the confidence to pull through and now I do and I'm loving every second. What do you think people love the most about your designs? I think the strongest point of my designs is how timeless they are. My first two collections I released over two years ago are still on trend and will always be. They're timeless. I aspire to create clothing that will last a lifetime. The quality is incredible too.

"I aspire to create clothing that will last a lifetime."

Why do you think LA is so relevant for you and your brand? LA is a creative´s hot spot! There's photoshoots happening every day and I feel like a lot of people are on a similar wave length. People love to collaborate and create and there are so many talented people there. The energy is just everything in LA. I love it. I just feel so full of life there. People appreciate fashion there too... more than anywhere in Australia. I'll dress up in Adelaide and people will be like why is she so dressed up for? It's frustrating.

Do you have other plans in the future besides being a fashion designer? To be completely honest, I've been trying to balance all of my hobbies and passions for the past couple of years actually. Trying to manage to be a fashion stylist, designer and blogger is overwhelming. I learnt that you shouldn't spread yourself too thin... I was doing so

115

much last year and became so exhausted, mentally and physically drained. Even though I love doing all these things, I need to really just solely focus on one or two. Although I'm a firm believer in balance and also not limiting yourself to one thing... you can do it all... just with the correct management.

How would you define yourself? And your brand? I'm definitely a young hustler, that's for sure but I'm still trying to figure out who I am.. I evolved a lot last year and continue to try and grow as a human-being. I can definitely tell you that I'm extremely passionate, I do everything with my heart. It's either 0-100 with me, a ride a die...I feel everything. I also love to inspire other people to do what they love, follow their heart and just do what makes them happy because life is so short. I'm just super passionate and love seeing other people happy.

What's your favourite music? Who do you listen when you're at work? I love RnB but on my Spotify playlist you'll see a bit of everything. Sia, The Weeknd, Stormzy, Post Malone, Gashi, Khalid, Drake are some of my favourite artists for sure. When I'm at work, I listen to the GOAT...Kanye West. I always get hyped and super creative listening to him, he gets me into my zone. What's your favourite colour? Black for sure. It represents to me power and

undefeated, strong and bold. You can never go wrong with an all black outfit too.

Sace and Louis. (Sace named after Versace and Louis after Louis Vuitton, of course)

What do you love to do in your free time? To be honest, I'm always creating and thinking about about ways on how I can build my empire and brand and things to create. But I love hanging out with my Dad, he's always making me laugh and spending time with my 3 little fur babies, Mimi,

What can we expect from you in the near future? Epic projects and photoshoots. Definitely more shoe designs, SBB clothing and swimwear. I'm not holding back on anything and when I'm back in LA.. expect the most epic runway show. I'm already thinking of ideas and concepts, I get goose-bumps just thinking about it.

"The SBB woman isn't afraid to stand out and take risks. She is a go-getter, a boss, an empowering woman ready to conquer the world and manifests her dreams and brings them to life."
