ctress, designer, teacher and owner, how do you balance it all? The secret to being able to juggle so many balls is that I have a great team of loyal supporters, who enable me to focus on what I do best...it takes a village. Share with us your story up until now. What led you to pursue careers as a designer, actress, and owner of Yoga Clubs? I grew up in Los Angeles, both my parents were actors and dedicated yogis for many years. Growing up, my dad exposed me to the arts and classic cinema from a young age and I have an ongoing love affair with drawing and painting, hence artist, actress, yogi, and inventor!! Fleurings was inspired by my grandmother, who told me that wearing flowers in my hair would get me more tips when I was working as a waitress. I got to thinking and invented vase jewelry that would let me wear flowers and keep them fresh for hours. It probably helped that my mother owned a leading infomercial company and was always on the lookout for smart ideas to develop, so I guess it’s in my blood.
Your family has some roots in Hollywood. Tell us more about that and your relationship to acting since you were a kid. Both of my parents were actors. In fact, they met on a movie called Top of the Hill. Fun story: my name is very much inspired by those Hollywood roots. My mom, Denise DuBarry, got one of her first roles playing Robert Conrad’s love interest, nurse “Samantha Greene,” on the TV show Black Sheep Squadron. My mom named me Samantha after that role. My father, Gary Lockwood, has a different story. He says I was named after Elizabeth Montgomery’s “Samantha” role on Bewitched, as she was not only beautiful and talented but very smart; she was one of the first actresses in Hollywood to be a producer on her own show. So depending on who you ask, I’m named after either a nurse or a good witch. My dad is a sci-fi icon known for his role in 2001: A Space Odyssey, but he also starred in Star Trek: Where No Man Has Gone Before and countless TV shows like Follow the Sun, The Lieutenant, MacGyver, Magnum, Charlie’s Angels, Hawaii Five-0, and the list goes on. My dad also starred in Wild in the Country and It Happened at the World’s Fair with Elvis Presley and Splendor in the Grass with Natalie Wood. Even though Gary Lockwood is my father, I am a bit starstruck with all he accomplished in his career and all of the talented people he got to work with. I am very proud to call him dad.
“I want to be involved with inspiring, uplifting stories.”
What are some challenges you have faced as an actress? I think the biggest challenge is connecting with the right people. Authenticity is not what tinsel town is known for — so navigating around that can be tricky. However, if you can find the right people to work with, who encourage and support your vision for your career, then that makes a huge difference. With acting, I find it challenging to find roles that I love and can embrace. I want to be involved with inspiring, uplifting stories because that’s what drew me to Hollywood in the first place. Life is hard enough! If I can contribute to someone smiling, or fill them with hope and lift them up, then that is good enough for me.

As you work with women in the industry, what has been your biggest takeaway? What lessons have you learned? Women can be your best advocates. Overall, I have experienced a lot of good support from them. My first jobs were all from women, and my mom hired me to host an infomercial for her company when I was a teenager. I also got a role in a western because of a woman named Kim Waltrip, and

thanks to Catherine Hardwick, my first speaking part in a film was in Lords of Dogtown. Over the years, I have learned how important it is for women to support each other and that you can be beautiful, strong, and thoughtful simultaneously. In what ways do you believe women could be better represented in the entertainment industry? There are so many women in the world who have amazing lives. Their stories are worth telling. I especially want to see stories of women of all different ethnicities and backgrounds that have sacrificed to build their lives and women who have maintained families and careers with far less opportunities and resources than men. Tell us about one (or more) women who have inspired you and how. My mother inspired me; she was a very dynamic woman of many talents, very smart and very gracious. She was a doer. She always made things happen. I really looked up to those qualities in her and miss her dearly. She passed recently and it has been the most challenging time of my life. What can fans expect from your upcoming projects? I star in a movie, Shoot the Hero, which just released on Tubi and will soon Amazon Prime before the end of 2020. I will also be shooting a comedy series for television in early 2021 - fingers crossed that it gets picked up! Overall, I look forward to doing more action,
comedy, sci-fi films, and unique stories. I really like projects that are based on true stories about love and tradition that include fun action sequences. I also love stories that are uplifting and against all odds kind of dramas that showcase the power and resilience of the human spirit, so I’m hopeful that movies like this show up in my future. As a designer, where do you draw inspiration? Can you tell us more about this passion? I founded a very unique line of vase jewelry called Fleurings. I love wearing fresh flowers and these little earrings and necklaces are designed to hold water and keep flowers fresh for hours and hours. Flowers make us “feel good.” It’s scientifically proven that flowers make us produce more “happy brain chemicals” like dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin when we are around them. They bring good vibes, so it only makes sense to put them around our homes or better yet wear them! I created the “vase earring” concept to keep a flower fresh throughout my day! Hence the name “Fleur” or flower in French, plus Earrings = Fleurings. The line quickly expanded into necklaces that have become widely popular as the original vase jewelry aka the “lei you can wear every day.” How has Yoga played a role in your life? My parents both studied Bikram Yoga in the ’70s and ’80s, and I got into it with them. In fact, you could say I was doing yoga in the womb before I was born, as my mom did yoga throughout her pregnancy.

If you could jump back in time to an era, certain moment (etc.), where would you go and why? I think I’d go back to the time when Grace Kelly was alive. I’ve always been fascinated by her life and her choices. She is one of the people from history who I would be interested to meet. Have you started thinking of any New Year resolutions? I tend not to make New Year’s resolutions but I do have a life resolution, which is to make the most
out of every day, to do my best to enjoy the ups the downs, the joys as and the challenges. Where do you see yourself 5 years from now? Professionally, I see myself with several more acting projects under my belt, my name in lights and my vase jewelry line, Fleurings, flourish - pun intended Personally, I see myself living happily with my life partner and if it’s in the cards, perhaps a couple of kids and dogs of course.

hen do you realize you wanted to become a model? What were some obstacles you had to face and how did you overcome them? When I was younger, I used to read fashion magazines. I felt amazed by the fashion industry, and I told myself I wanted to be featured on them. I suffered from anorexia due to fashion industry exigences, but luckily I overcame it and now I feel at peace with my body and I work every day to do my best in my job. I have also focused on a more sexy, commercial side of fashion. Social media has helped a lot as well because it has opened the range of options and now you don’t have to be super skinny to be a model. Up until now, how has your journey as a model been? Do you recall any stories of shoots that made you almost want to quit the industry but didn’t? So far it has been good, but now I want to move to Los Angeles or Miami to model full-time. I have been modeling part-time till now but I feel confident enough to start shining! Describe to us what beauty means to you. Beauty is whatever makes me feel excited. Anything that makes my heart go faster.

What role has your family played in who you are today? I am a very lucky girl. My family has always supported me in all I wanted to achieve in life. They are happy if I am happy. Tell us more about what you believe is your purpose as a model. What do you hope it leads to? I would love to be a top model, a recognized model. I will work and work to achieve it. When you aren’t modeling, what does a typical day look like for you? I study business and manage my Instagram as an influencer. I love doing my everyday workout, reading, watching golden age Hollywood movies, listening to music... I love doing a lot of things during the day. I’m a non-stop girl. If you could create your own shoot from A to Z, what theme would you pick? Where would it be done? For what? When you aren’t modeling, what does a typical day look like for you? It’s such an unusual question! I would like to shoot something with 20s, 30s, 50s inspiration. The more I watch movies from those eras, the more I want to get dressed like their principal characters. I think they were was such classy eras. So I would definitely organize a shoot with 90s models with that inspiration in mind. What do you look most forward to in 2021? I really look forward to this pandemic to end soon and that the new normality brings health and work for all... and I’m looking forward to starting traveling again and working as much as I can.
