“We are now celebrated by our ability to dress all women, this is something relatively new to the fashion world.
/38
our background in dressmaking stems from being born into a family of seamstresses. Tell us about your experience growing up being surrounded by such creativity and ambition for design? My mother was a seamstress and she taught me how to work with my hands to create something beautiful which could be worn. I also spent thirty years teaching arts and crafts which continued my love for creativity and spreading beauty.
After 30 years of creating such angelic gowns, have you observed any change in the industry? Not just fashion wise but the methods behind it. There’s less of an emphasis on couture. Now, it’s all about readyto-wear which is great. However, there is something to be said for pieces that are 100% unique. It feels novel and great to still be creating the way they did in the early ateliers.
What was your first opportunity to be a part of the fashion in-
dustry? A proud moment was being invited into the Paris Federation of Haute Couture last year. I have always considered myself a part of this industry. Whether I was participating at this level or not, I was always creating for the bride and that has not and will not change.
been difficult to consistently release these captivating designs to the awaiting public? Never. It’s fast-paced and there’s very little time to sit and plan, but we’re constantly thinking and innovating and more than anything else, we are working with brides every day who tell us what they want. Luckily, with bridal people are not shy about they want and that means we always have fresh ideas.
Your creations embellish such immaculate beauty from not only
Your philosophy to keep the making of the gowns an intimate pro-
lace and beading but how it complements the human physique. How have your designs developed compared to when you first started creating? I’m not sure if so much has changed in my way of designing over the thirty years, but I think definitely the world has changed in how it views the female body. We are now celebrated by our ability to dress all women, this is something relatively new to the fashion world.
How do new ideas come to you?
You are seen by many as the genius of formal dresses, has it ever
cess for each custom-made dress is so admirable to a clientele seeking the one dress made of love and passion. Have you ever felt pressured to go to a full factory manufacturing as your brand has grown so exponentially? We have a GALA line which is beloved by many brides. With GALA we do not do custom and the gowns are very popular. However, we will always have a couture line - creating something unique is why I love this industry in the first place and we could never leave it.
“I was always creating for the bride and that has not and will not change.”
Muses, scents, beauty, emotions and what brides tell me when they come to the store to shop and try on their gowns.
What are some inspirations you use to structure your dresses? Usually, each collection has a very intentional inspiration. For example, Florence by Night, our newest Couture campaign, is softer and ethereal - we were very moved by the world of perfumes, apothecary and scents. Gala V was about music and movement. What do you want these dresses to mean to your clients? When a bride tells us she felt beautiful, comfortable and herself this is the greatest compliment. Dressing brides is about making a bride feel like a dream version of themselves, but not changing their personal identity, whatever that might be. That’s why my job will never be boring, every bride has a specific style and wants a look that fits that. How did you make your way to locate your studio in Tel Aviv, Israel? What draws you there? Israel is where I’m from and Tel Aviv is the fashion capital of Israel. This city is so filled with the scents, music, sounds, and movement that I draw my inspiration from. You cannot become bored in a city with so much character.
It is said that to wear one of your gowns is not just
for the event one is attending, it is a memorable experience of grace and serenity. Would you say this is said with great accuracy for your intricate designs? I can only hope this is what brides feel. The grace is embodying the definition of beauty and the serenity is the comfort and the knowing that you are still you, even on the biggest day of your life.
What would you consider your signature look? Something classic and classy with a slight nod to the sexy. A high neck and a low back, a slit. This is dressing for the modern woman. Have your trips around the world showcasing your gowns inspired any designs? Of course. Also, meeting brides in other stores around the world. Every time we travel we speak with brides and the store managers and return with new ideas. What do you believe is the most accentuated part of a woman when she is confident? She is confident when she accentuates the parts of her she loves. Would you say you have achieved your dream to create your artwork into your current day masterpieces? Or is it an ongoing journey? I am living my dream, but this does not mean it will stop any time soon.

TRAVEL GUIDE
THE WHITSUNDAYS The 74 Island Wonders BY VALENTINA SOLCI @valetinasolci
Images provided by TOURISM WHITSUNDAYS www.tourismwhitsundays.com.au
95\
Known by Australians as the “74 island wonders”, the Whitsunday Islands are situated in the northeast coast of Queensland and are all encompassed by nothing but sand, turquoise waters, and the world’s most profound coral reef system, the Great Barrier Reef. There are only four main islands that are inhabited and hold four of the most renowned tropical resorts: Hamilton Island, One & Only Hayman Island, Daydream Island Resort & Spa, and the Palm Bay Resort on Long Island. The rest of the islands remain uninhabited and are protected by the Australian government as national parks. As you can imagine, the Whitsundays are most popular for their aquatic activities, most especially, their snorkeling and diving opportunities. Regardless of what activities you decide to do, these tropical gemstones are sure to leave you breathless and filled with unforgettable memories. Heart Reef, Great Barrier Reef, QLD
In contrast to their original formation from volcanic activity 110 million years ago, today, the Whitsundays is arguably one of the most tranquil and pristine island getaways in the world. According to archaeological evidence, the islands were once inhabited for about 8,000 years by different groups of nomadic people. However, it wasn’t until 1770, when British explorer Captain Cook sailed through the islands, that the rest of the world learned of their existence. By 1802, the HMS Investigator had mapped the inner edge of the Great Barrier Reef, and, by the 1920’s, tourism in the Whitsundays was officially launched. From that point forward, the Whitsundays began to grow in worldwide population as one of the most unique tropical destinations. With that being said, the Whitsundays is filled with history, cultural folklore, and artifacts that can be discovered, more in-depth, at Queensland’s Proserpine Historical Museum.

HISTORY
Whitehaven Beach, Whitsundays Islands, QLD
Whitehaven Beach, Whitsundays Islands, QLD
ACTIVITIES With 74 islands open for exploration by visitors, there is a lot to take in. As previously mentioned, there are four main islands, with accompanying resorts, open for overnight stays. However, over the years, Australia’s governmental tourism agency has been developing a variety of guided and non-guided opportunities for visitors to stop by the other 70 deserted islands. Similar to going island hopping in Greece or in the Bahamas, the Whitsunday Islands are in the vicinity of each other, making it a bit easier to travel amongst the marine park. There are several different ways to go island hopping at the Whitsundays, three of them include jet skiing, bare boating, and seaplane transportation. Whitsundays Jet Ski Tours is the first and only jet ski tour company for the marine park. Based in Abell Point Marina, Airlie Beach, an Australian resort town and the gateway to the islands, this company offers three exhilarating jet ski tour options for all ages and experience levels. Bareboating is the second transportation option for island hopping and is, by far, the most liberating. This is because there are no guides or tours included; hence, the word ‘bare’. Whitsunday Escape is one of the best, and largest, boat rental companies in the Whitsundays. The company offers several different boats to choose from, a safety course for beginners and experienced boaters,
and a map of the Whitsunday Islands. Visitors of the Whitsundays are free to cruise the area and, following the safety guidelines and geographical 97\ preservation rules, dock the boat on any of the 74 islands. The third, and fastest, transportation option is to island hop via seaplane. Though there are multiple companies that host seaplane tours, Air Whitsundays is one of the most popular as they were awarded the Advanced Ecotourism Certification, which is Australia’s highest possible eco-certification. The tours offered range in price, duration, and visiting locations, however, one guarantee for all passengers is the chance to witness one of the most breathtaking panoramic views in the world. With that being said, the following are five deserted Whitsunday Islands worth paying a visit to the Repulse Islands (consisting of three adjacent islands), Wigton Island, Haslewood Island, Armit Island, and Mansell Island. Though these islands are open for visitation, there are legal rules and guidelines to follow for the protection of the island and the surrounding Great Barrier Reef. To learn more about these specific rules, be sure to visit Queensland’s Government website. Additionally, depending on the island, camping and overnight stays may be allowed with a permit and governmental fee.

BLISSFUL IMAGES One of the beautiful aspects of living in a digitally empowered world is that we all have the opportunity to instantly share our creativity, whether it be through writing, audio/video records, or photography. At the Whitsundays, almost everything you see is blissfully picturesque and worth taking a photograph of. A classic Polaroid camera may be a good investment for those who prefer to quickly receive a printed version of the image, making the moment captured seem more valuable and timeless. Since most of the activities you’ll be doing at the Whitsundays consist of aquatic interaction, an underwater camera could definitely come in handy and leave you with some really unique shots. For those interested in expan-
ding their craft as a photographer or videographer, a drone would be the ultimate camera for this purpose. With this type of equipment, one can capture amazing footage of the tropical forests, hillsides, and, of course, the inner and outer edges of the Great Barrier Reef. Each of these camera types can definitely help elevate any creative ideas you’d like to achieve, however, there’s nothing wrong with keeping it simple and taking photographs through your smartphone (the only thing that would be highly recommended is a waterproof phone case). Regardless of what camera you use, the enchanting islands of the Whitsundays are sure to leave a mark both on camera and through the naked eye.
If you choose to stay on the main islands, here are a few unique spots to check out. To begin with, the Whitsundays are primarily known for their aquatic scene, however, be sure not to overlook the dense tropical forests and hillsides that the islands and coastal mainland hold. Twenty minutes outside of Airlie Beach, visitors have the opportunity to follow the Great Whitsundays Trail, guiding them through a tropical forest towards Cedar Creek Falls. Here, visitors can shower beneath the waterfall and swim in its accompanying natural pool. Alongside this trail, visitors can hike upward to Abell Point and get a high vantage point of the famed Whitehaven Beach, a 7 km stretch of pure blue and white shades swerving through the Whitsunday’s Hill Inlet and stretching out to the phenomenal abyss of the Coral Sea.
PLACES
The Whitsundays remain so peacefully connected to nature that anyone can be lured into their magical essence, and left in disbelief of the 74 island wonders’ existence..

FASHION TRENDS
SUMMER
Style
BY SHANNON CAMPBELL @shancamp
/112
These are the top trends that are “must haves” in your closet this season that will make you look “cool” when its hot this summer......... This summer its all about accessories......Top accessories that complete your look and make heads turn when you walk in the room. When it comes to creating an unforgettable outfit, the clothes are not the only part that you need to get right. Your accessories are now going to be stealing the show. So, to ensure that, when you show up and show off - these trends will make you beyond “extra” and fashionable. These are some of our faves we’ve rounded up from the runways in Milan and Paris to New York and London....and now available for you to wear and strut your stuff on your own personal catwalk on the streets! Zara Split Suede Tote Bag Cult Gaia Mini Acrylic Ark Bag $70.00
$280.00 Staud Moreau Handbag
$450.00
Textured Bags With the rising temperatures of the summer sun, days spent outdoors, and vacations on the horizon, we are taking full advantage of one this seasons top accessories: the textured bag! These bags add a special touch to any outfit and the texture brings “fab” to something “drab”. From straw hats to woven shoes, and braided bags, you‘ll want to continue using even after the sun sets.
Go Big or Go Home Hats
Jacquemus Le Grand Chapeau Bomba Hat
$692.78
So did you happen to check out our girl Dua Lipa in her latest video? Well I don’t know what I loved more: the song or that hat! Its all about making a statement this season. And if you are having a “bad hair day”, we got you covered...excuse the pun!! And of course we always are wanting to make sure that we are protected from the UV rays, but hats off to you if you just decide to go outside of your comfort zone and go big and dont go home when you wear this hat!
Plastic Fantastic Did you see Kae Gerber on the Chanel Runway?? ZIPLOC isn´t just for sandwiches anymore. It definitely is one of those looks when you first see `I would NEVER wear that´. Anyway, guess what: everyone is wearing that! The “jellies” from the 80s definitely graduated, and now we have moved on to heels, boots, bags and even hats. And you wont get in trouble when you are at the airport at the TSA because they will see what you are carrying with you! This is such a fun trend, and what I love about fashion is having fun! Chanel PVC Flap Bag
$3,000.00
113\ Missoni Extra Large Hat
$560.00
Chanel Transparent & White PVC Boots
$1,289.77
Oscar de la Renta Marine Raffia Hoop Earrings
Earring Ornaments
$3,000.00
For some reason, all the department stores love having the “Christmas in July” sales.Well, this season, the earrings remind me so much like Christmas tree ornaments. The bigger the better: from fringe, to tassles, to bling (or not to bling), if you don’t want to go overboard on the jewelry, a pair of statement earrings is all you need. Even if you only buy one pair, I assure you it will be a purchase you wont regret. And guess what, when they go out of style, Christmas is only a few months away so they will make a great ornament on your tree! Royal Girl Vintage Oval Sunglasses
$12.98
$287.78
Simple Sunnies Sorry Anna Wintour, your big, round glasses are so last season! There are sooooo many fun sunglasses that are out right now. But all different shapes and sizes, and all colors of the rainbow!! It definitely isn’t about wearing them in the sun. Corey Hart had it right back in the 80s when he was singing about wearing his “sunglasses at night”. These you could definitely wear in the morning, afternoon, and night!

$345.00
Rosantica Millefili Fringe Earrings
Le Specs + Adam Selman The Last Lolita Cat-Eye Acetate Mirrored Sunglasses

Super Sneakers Is it a bird, is it a plane?? No, its the “SUPER SNEAKER”! Lets face it: we work hard, and we want to be comfortable. The “Designer Gods” finally answered our fashion prayers and created comfortable shoes that are also stylish! When PRADA first came out with their stacked heel sneaker, I knew there was a light at the end of the tunnel for us! This summer comfort and style are one in the same. Finally our prayers are answered! Gucci Ace Glitter Sneakers

The Eye of An Icon ROBERT LYNDEN, an iconic photographer and extraordinary
filmmaker sat down to share his thoughts and experiences with us. After working four decades in a passionately demanding industry, Robert Lynden has an exceptional artistic vision. The ability to look into the heart of a client, and build an entire concept for a transfixing photoshoot. Although his knowledge for this artistic outlook on life was considerable inheritance, from his Mother a clothes designer, it was his own ambition as a young child to discover this world of galactic unity through fabrics and camera lenses. From an eager art student, to an apprentice under a legend, to now with much success and growing, we are honored to feature him in QPmag.

“When I met Helmut Newton I thought his personality would reflect his photography, but he was just the opposite, very charming and personable
ED HARRIS
ou can have a variety of looks to your work, where it can be soft and natural you also have a somewhat abstract artist approach. How do you balance these two worlds and go about deciding one over the other during shoots? I have clients from different parts of the world and their needs are very different so I try to create something special and unique for each one.
How would you describe the LA fashion industry compared to the
New York fashion industry? New York and Los Angeles have a very distinctive unofficial dress code. There are a lot of things that factor into these dress codes, most notably the climate, how people get around, and even prominent industries. Therefore the way I shoot for a NYC client is much different than the way I would approach an LA client.
When you were a student at ArtCenter College of Design, did you ever experience any self -doubt? That perhaps, as all college students get, the fear you were going in the wrong direction? Art Center is a very difficult school to graduate from. The standards are extremely high. I chose Art Center because it is known to be the best there is. I never doubted myself as I knew in advance what I signed up for. After graduating, you quickly picked
Where do you begin when first starting a shoot when it comes to brainstorming what to create? Since most of the work I do is done for the purpose of advertising, I start with the need of the client and proceed to develop a look for the client. Your use of lighting in your work is phenomenal, but how do sha-
dows equally come in to play? I love lighting because you can manipulate shapes and create moods or atmosphere with light and shadows.
After over 4 decades working in the industry, how have you adapted to the constant change of this ever-evolving community? Right after I graduated from Art Center I wanted to assist several photographers and one was Richard Avedon. I had the opportunity to meet him in New York and I’ll never forget what he said to me. Avedon said, “remember, Robert, that you are as good as your last shot”. That statement and my belief that you always have to be on top of technology and fashion trends keep me going strong as ever.
“I love the work I have done, but I am always open to trying something new, even after 40 years”
up popularity and would continue that for several decades. How did it feel to shoot for Vogue Italia just fresh out of college? It was not easy starting out, but I unfashion because I grew up /142 derstood around it as my mother was a clothes designer in Europe. This was an advantage for me because I was able to shoot fast and most importantly show off the garment on a model just the way designers liked. Shooting for major fashion magazines was most fulfilling – I felt all the hard work I did was paying off.
G rowing up in Manhattan Beach, California, was there ever
an early interest in photography? I studied art at the early age of 6 years old and my interest was nothing but art, I was drawn to surrealism. I absolutely loved the work of Salvador Dali. One day I borrowed my dad’s camera to take pictures as a study to paint surreal images on large canvases. As I shot more and more photography became more interesting as an art form. It was incredibly satisfying to blow up a negative film in a darkroom and have it come to beautiful picture in the developing tray.
What was it like assisting Helmut Newton? Has he had any influence on any of your recent work? When I was a student at Art Center I became familiar with Helmut Newton’s work and I was fascinated by his provocative and erotically charged photos. When I met him I thought his personality would reflect his photography, but he was just the opposite. Helmut was very charming and personable. I learned a lot from him and he was a great influence on my early work. Are there any other photographers or directors that inspire you?
There are other photographers, besides Helmut Newton, whose work I admire: Mario Testino, Richard Avedon, Albert Watson, Guy Bordin, and Peter Lindbergh.
When doing commercials, how do you go about truly capturing and personifying what the company stands for? The larger the company the more restrictions you have when developing a concept. Companies like P&G may reject something that they think may offend their shareholders. This is very frustrating when developing ideas so therefore I prefer working with non-public companies. I am fortunate to have clients that are open-minded and we see alike when it comes to creativity.
How does music come in to mingle with your creativity for a shoot? Music is an important part of a session. I look for music that creates specific moods during a shoot. Sometimes the smallest detail can truly add emphasis to the entirety of a photograph. Do you believe in creating that detail or letting it grow from the subject organically? On a photo shoot, you are in charge always. You are the director. It’s up to you how the picture turns out. I love directing models. I tell them the character I want them to improvise and I’m constantly talking to the model in front of the camera. Are you aware at all of the legacy you are leaving for aspiring
photographers to follow? I suppose so, but I’m not attached to anything I shoot. The pleasure I get out of a shoot is during a session. Once I finish a shoot I’m on to the next one.
Do you feel you have accomplished what you originally set out to
do as a photographer? I love the work I have done, but I am always open to trying something new, even after 40 years.
Wiil you be looking to take on any apprentices in the near future as Helmut Newton did with you? I have had many apprentices that have worked with me in the past and I love teaching them the craft of photography and filmmaking. I especially love to see them grow and become successful.

BEAUTY
SUMMER BY NOVA KAPLAN @novakaplan
When heat waves hit we still want to look camera ready, and the smoldering sun has no qualms about making it tough for us! The key is to work with that epic glow and use products and techniques that don’t fight the elements. Take a peek at some of this season’s Summer must-haves!
1
FLORAPY Sheet Mask: The 100% coconut formula puts your skin in the right mood to socialize with other products! So many formulas to cater to your specific skin needs with an added aroma-therapy benefit. I’m obsessed with the stress relief formula to set the tone for the day. It also has “cling” technology so you can multitask if need be. $8.00
/156
2
LE PRUNIER Plum Beauty Oil: The glow starts here! Ingredients: Plum seed. This oil is intoxicating; the smell cannot be explained, it must be experienced! I drop the oil in highlight spots where I want the highest saturation and spread out from there. Don’t forget the lips! $72.00
3
TARTE Shape Tape Concealer I use this lightly all over the face for concealer and foundation. Concentrate in trouble areas and highlight spots. Less is More is a real thing: the more product you put on texture, the more magnified it appears. This will give a real summer glow. Set in high shine areas like between the eyes with an invisible powder. TIP: avoid powder all over in the hot months to avoid separation. Glued to your phone? Same. Bring headphones with you! $30.00
4
NUDE STIX Sculpting Pencil - Quick and travel savvy sticks to bump up your look. First grab your shade in the sculpting pencil. Use the contour in light strokes to emphasize your bone structure and blend with clean fingertips. Keep the highlight side handy for a bolder night look! TIP: If you can see how long your day was by looking under your eyes, pop some highlight stick in there! By not using powder you can easily layer product throughout the day. Double Tip: Place a small contour under the bottom lip just in the center for a sultry pout. $24.00
5
ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS Clear Brow Gel - Brush those babies up and keep them in place all day! Love this brow set because it has a firm hold that lasts, but never looks stiff the way a wax would. $22.00
6
DIOR Addict Lip Maximizer. Lip Plumper in Pool Blue - Pop it on by itself or under your favorite lip product to juice up that pout. No liner needed! This actually stimulates collagen synthesis and will restructure your lips within 15 days. $34.00
7
ELIZABETH MOTT It’s So BIG Volumizing Mascara - It truly has it all! She’s got an hourglass wand to ensure the corner lashes get love too. The wand is also bendable so you can create the most comfortable angle for application. The formula coats your lashes in tubes so it doesn’t run in the summer heat, and the removal process is easy and gentle as the tubes slide right off with warm water! $20.00

SUMMER 1 /158
2
NARS Larger than Life Longwear Eyeliner in Via Veneto: Finally a pencil that actually stays in the water line! It has a twist up applicator with a built-in sharpener. It has a 12-hour wear so it will take you through the wildest of your summer nights! $26.00
3
MAC COSMETICS BRUSHES FOR ALL THINGS BLENDING: 286 Synthetic Duo Fibre Tapered Brush. If you’re having trouble blending out your highlight, want a little more coverage under the eyes, or decide you cannot leave the house without eyeshadow, the #286 will have your back. The mix of natural and synthetic hair make it the perfect weapon against unwanted harsh lines. $32.00
FOR ALL THINGS CLEAN: 212 Flat Definer Brush. To make your bold lip ready for that #nofilter photo, dip the #212 in the tiniest bit of concealer, lay the brush an edge of the lip and sweep firmly toward the center of the lip. You only need to hit the outer corners to leave the center contoured. Tip: Place a small contour under the bottom lip just in the center for a sultry pout. You can use this same method for a super crisp cat eye. Double Tip: Wipe excess product after each stroke! $25.00
Top Barrus London • Pants Barrus London • Shoes Guess
JEFFREE STAR COSMETICS Velour Liquid Lipsticks: The perfect summer lip: Redrum applied first for a rich red base, then layer Anna Nicole to the top. The bold orange will intensify and brighten the red for the perfect showstopping look. This lip is the only formula I’ve tried that truly doesn’t kiss off or smudge during meals!. Redrum $18.00 • Anna Nicole $18.00
