Hello, Division 18! Welcome to the 2nd issue of Josh’s Journey! Inside, you will find very important information, updates and reminders! As the service year comes to a close, I hope all of you have had the chance to see what aspects of your club have led to a successful year, as well as what can be improved on. Key Club International’s mission is to serve our home, school, and community, and that is something to keep in mind as you hold and attend events. Each and every one of you has taken it upon yourselves to selflessly devote your time to an organization that helps mold student leaders like yourself, and the invaluable life skills you will gain is unprecedented. I wish you all the best in this upcoming year-whether you are staying in Key Club for another year or going off to college, I know that each and everyone of you are to do great things in life! Reminders: CMRF’s are due by the 9th of every month! Club roster sheets must be submitted after electing new officers!

What Are Regional Training Conferences? Regional Training Conferences, or RTCs, are a series of training conferences organized by the NJ District Board. All members of Key Club - general members, officers, and advisors alike - are invited to join! RTCs are held from 9am to 1pm on select weekends, and they feature informative workshops on a variety of topics, including: district events, service and fundraising ideas, public speaking, and ways to get more involved with Key Club. New club officers are strongly encouraged to attend - in fact, each officer MUST attend at least one RTC during his/her term in order to be distinguished at the end of the year at District Convention. Each club is encouraged to send at least one representative to its nearest RTC - and keep in mind, the more the merrier!

On each newsletter, I will try to include a featured article, where a club from the division will give a brief summary of an event their club held that month! This month, co-president elect of Bloomfield High School, Giancarlo Ponicello, wrote an article on the Coffee House they held on May 1st! If you wish to be featured on any newsletter, please feel free to email me an article and I will include it!

On May 1st, the Bloomfield High School Key Club hosted its annual Coffee House, a social gathering and open mic night for high school students. It took place at the Oakeside Manor, which was graciously provided by the Bloomfield Cultural Center. Prior to the event, students signed up to place their talents on display. Artists included singers, musicians, rappers, and poets. The talent show without a winner created a relaxed environment for one of the most fun events of Bloomfield service year. The cost of entry was five dollars and the money raised will be used to fund the club's trip to Indianapolis for the International Convention. A lot of money was raised that night! Students of Bloomfield High School were encouraged to perform, however, the event itself was open to everyone.

Teachers, family members, and even Key Club members from neighboring towns stopped by to enjoy the food and music. The Coffee House brought Key Club together with other students in a way that few events could because it is an event that could not have been as successful without outside help. Those who signed up gave phenomenal performances that kept the crowd engaged. The Television Arts teacher of Bloomfield High and "I, Ventriloquist," a local band, lent vital equipment, including amplifiers and microphone stands. Donuts, cupcakes, and delicious brownies were donated by members of a Bloomfield Key Club. The hard work and donations that everyone involved invested into this event made it a memorable one that strengthened the bond between members and gave future members a look into what a Key Club can really achieve. -Giancarlo Ponticello, CoPresident Elect of BHS

Go the Distance for Autism is the largest charity cycling event in North Jersey. What exactly is it for? It is to change the future for those who struggle with autism, spread needed awareness, and impact the lives of children and their families living with autism every day. There are four programs involved in helping Go the Distance. They are: Alpine Learning Group, The EPIC School, Garden Academy, and REED Academy. These four programs are located in Northern New Jersey. All of the money that is raised from Go the Distance for Autism Ride is given to these four programs for educational and treatment programs for children and adults with autism. So,if you would like to help spread autism awareness, or help people with autism get treatment, you should attend the Go the Distance for Autism Bike Ride this month! This year, the Go the Autism Bike Ride is being held on May 31st at Bergen Community College. For more information about this event go to www.gtd4autism.org under the “Event Details tab.
