? Are you already excited about the MTV-EMA? Sure, to have such a spectacular music event in our city with more than 600 million viewers worldwide is something special – also to the mayor. Our time-honored Festhalle will tremble when thousands of fans will come together to celebrate their stars – what a big celebration! ? Do you consider Frankfurt as good place to party? My answer will have to be: yes, definitely! I’m not saying this just because I’m the mayor of the city. I know several of the club promoters and musicians here in Frankfurt personally: our scene is innovative, independent and has what it takes to keep coming up with new trends. The city supports this 110% - with financial aid as well as organizationally. ? That sounds almost like you are a fan of the local music scene? Although I’m a few years older than most of the people in front of the stages – the club scene is fascinating me. And there is nothing wrong with partying and dancing a bit f rom time to time. Of course, I do have my own musical favorites that I’m very fond of. ? Would you like to share that with us? Could we meet you in one of the clubs in Frankfurt? When I’m at private parties or clubs I like to listen to Alicia Keys – the rhythm of her songs doesn’t allow me to sit down. I enjoy listening to the Cranberries when I’m at a bar or as background music when hanging out with friends. At home you can catch me putting The Clash with „London Calling“ on the turntables. ? Who would have to be your favorite on Sunday? I find the category „Worldwide Act“ exciting the most. So many artists presenting their home – that fits to Frankfurt. The fact that less known artists have the same chance to win the award like the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest in this year, Loreen from Sweden. The dance style of Psy from South Korea is unique. Every nominee deserves the award, but I have to admit that I do keep my f ingers crossed for Tim Bendzko, representing Germany. „Saving the world“ with 148 Emails – I’d like to do that, too.

MTV EMA TRIVIA 1994 First MTV EMA in Berlin four years after the fall oft the Berlin Wall. George Michael performed „Freedom“ 1995 Bono stated during his speech:“What a city, what a night, what a crowd, what a bomb, what a mistake, what a wanker you have for President“ referring to the French nuclear testing in the South Pacific. 1996 MTV executives told Metallica not to use curse words on stage and the band spontaniously changed the program and played songs with parental advisory lyrics only 2000 J Lo landed on stage in an airplane 2002 Puff Daddy offered to give away a lavish ring to the first woman to come on stage and take off her clothes and one woman actually accepted that offer 2003 Christina Aguilera refused to walk the red carpet if Kelly Osbourne was present and naked protesters march on stage during Travis performance of „The Beautiful Occupation“ 2005 Borat calls Madonna a „genuine transvestite“ 2006 Kanye West didn’t win „Best Video“ and went off talking about he should have won the award for his video, „because it cost a million dollars and Pamela Anderson was in it. I was jumping across canyons. If I don’t win the awards the show loses credibility“ 2010 Eva Longoria had 13 outfit changes, one of it was shaped like a huge Spanish ham

With The Buggles music video „Video Killed The Radio Star“ MTV went on air in 1981 (at first on American cable TV only) with a programme filled with music videos that were announced by VJs (video jockeys), with classic hosts like Ray Cokes, Steve Blame, Paul King or Germany‘s own Kristiane Baker. Taping music videos on VHS and then watching them over and over are some of the earliest MTV memories some of us have. How amazed we were by „The Real World“, where seven strangers were picked to live in a house and have their lives taped to see what happens when people stop being polite and start being getting real. And what about the period when pimpled boys worldwide would join in disturbed laughter imitating Beavis and Butthead. MTV has left many footprints on modern culture and through the years underwent a transition from a music clip station to an accumulation of reality shows. MTV picked up massive speed on the road to success when the colour barrier was broken and the originally rock-orientated station played Michael Jackson’s „Billy Jean“ in 1983 and – fuelled by the overwhelming reception – opened it’s program for Pop and R’n’B, paving the way for artists such as Prince and also Hip Hop like Run DMC. The first MTV Video Music Awards were held in 1984, highlighted by Madonna’s „Like A Virgin“ performance. Since 1994 the MTV EMA are being hold as an equivalent to the American MTV VMA. Place to the premiere was our capitol Berlin. And after Frankfurt had already been in the center of attention in 2001 with stars such as J-Lo, Robbie Williams, Anastacia and many more, the schow is back again in town. Now, 11 years later, the probably most spectacular music event the city has ever seen is back, hitting the Frankfurt Festhalle on November 11th. Eighty acts are nominated in 16 categories and hope to take one of the highl y desired awards home with them. Rihanna is leading the list of the most-nominated with six nominations, followed by Taylor Swift close on her heels with five. Justin Bieber and Katy Perry are aiming for three (for all nominees check pages 6 and 7). We are particularly proud of Tim Bendzko, our „Best German Act“. The singer/songwriter managed to collect the most fan votes and – at least until press deadline of this special issue – is full of expectation to win the European title and finally, after defeating the competition, be announced „Best Worldwide Act“. We will keep you posted on our website welovepur.de Another title, the „Biggest Fan Award“ will go to the artist with the most support by his/her fans and provides a chance to score points for checking out videos, photos, breaking news, and more – and for whoever spreads the word loudest on social media about the EMA – to win tickets and even go backstage. For more info check out tv.mtvema.com/megafan Topmodel, supermama, entertainer and fashionista Heidi Klum will host this year‘s award show. Modelling for Vicotria’s Secret she made numerous front pages and she is a dedicated supermodel scout on „Germany‘s Next Top Model“. We’re also looking forward to the category „Best Electronic“ that got picked up again. Nominees are David Guetta, Avicii, Skillex, Calvin Harris and also Swedish House Mafia. It would really come in handy for Axwell, Ingrosso and Angello aka Swedish House Mafia, who are going on their farewell-tour in December and will play here in Frankfurt in the same location, the Festhalle. The entertainment factor is on a high le vel with a musical program promising one top-act after another such as No Doubt, Taylor Swift, Alicia Keys, Pitbull, The Killers, Cary Rae Jepsen and more. For everyone who didn’t get a hold of one of the highl y desired tickets to the Festhalle has a chance to watch the broadcast on MTV and VIVA starting 9pm. However, not only the night of the awards promises to be an entertainment highlight, the MTV Music Week is bringing stars and glamour to the metropolis by the Main river. From the 2nd November until the 10th our city is offering lots of events with incredible DJ line-ups and famous live-bands where you can enjoy an international flair coming up these day s. To be up to date with what’s going on simply check out our website welovepur.de – we will definitely keep you posted. Susanne J. Birkholz&Christian Spreen

EYES ON THE STARS Frankfurt will be stuffed with stars! 80 nominees are still fighting for an award and many of them are said to come in person. So chances are rather high to e.g. visit the ladies room at club Travolta and suddenly stand face to face with Rihanna or to eventually bump into Fedde le Grand shopping on the ZEIL. Paparazzi and fans will fight to get a glimpse of Pitbull, Lady Gaga or Kate Perry at one of the hotels. Find an overview of the nominees, presenters and performers on the following pages.
EMA schedule The exact running order of the night has not been confirmed yet and thus may still change within the next days. For the latest infos simply apply your smartphones QR-code-reader app with the code provided here. On our website welovepur.de/ema you will be kept in the loop.

FRANKFURT’S ASTONISHING MUSIC HISTORY Frankfurt – traffic junction, bank towers, fair. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Rippchen (spare ribs), Kraut and Apfelwein (cider). The local soccer team Eintracht Frankfurt happens to be currently famous again, too. Usually that’s what would cross one’s mind thinking of Frankfurt am Main. As far as music is concerned the annual music fair is popular all over the world. Besides that one would rather associate music history with the metropolis at the river Main. Founding the „domicile du jazz“ in 1952 in a cellar vault the cradle of jazz in the metropolis of Main, which then soon became the Jazzkeller was sending out major impulses to all over Europe. The club is celebrating its 60th birthday this year. In 1953 the German Jazz festival (Deutsches Jazzfestival) premiered. With Storyville another jazz club was introduced two years later in the Stiftstraße (name of the street downtown) and in 1959 „Jazz im Palmengarten“ was founded and up until this day is the oldest open air series in Europe, if not in the world. Albert Mangelsdorff, later being called the world champion of trombone players, played the debut concert. Even with Berlin and Cologne leaving Frankfurt far behind concerning musical education, Frankfurt am Main still owns the reputation as a city of jazz – also because of the well-known and respected hr-big band.

„I GOT THE POWER“ VERSUS „ICH WILL SPASS“ The younger but still aging generation is considering Frankfurt as the clashing contrast – a Techno City. According to the legends record salesman Andreas Tomalla aka DJ Talla 2XLC placed electronically produced music under the term techno in his record store and later founded the Technoclub. That was real pioneer work especially this taking place even before Sven Väth, Michael Münzing and Matthias Martinsohn opened the Omen „as one of the most important birth places of techno in Germany“ (wikipedia) in 1988. Thanks to eurodance being popular at that time many tunes produced in the city at the river Main hit the charts worldwide. „The Power“ by Snap! turned out to be the biggest hit going up to char t position number two in the US and number 1 in Great Britain. However, that phenomenon remained single with German artists being limited with their fame to Germany and it’s neighbor’s countries. As for instance singer Markus going number one in the beginning of the ’80s with his song „Ich will Spaß“when the so-called Neue Deutsche Welle (german new wave) was at its peek of popularity. In 1984 The Rodgau Monotones shocked the nation with their „Erbarmen, zu spät die Hesse komme“ and finally the Rödelheim Hartreim Projekt in 1993, offering an alternative to the rap competitors in Stuttgart. The Pelham Power Productions (abbreviation: 3p) created stars such as Xavier Naidoo and Sabrina Setlur. „Schnella, Höhe, Weita“ (faster, higher, stronger) was the credo of the Rödelheimers. That kind of selfconfidence is not often being presented by Frankfurt based musicians. Berlin, Hamburg and Cologne and even the Upper Bavaria located Weilheim are being credited more relevance to for the development of German pop music than Frankfurt. That is so thanks to The Notwist, the Tied&Tickled Trio and Console. But let’s whoop it up for a moment and claim that without Frankfurt Rock’n’Roll wouldn’t exist the way we know it, talking about pioneers as the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin. How come? - Really simple: The concert impressarios of Frankfurt am Main Horst Lippmann and Fritz Rau sent their „American Folk and Blues Festival“ to the UK for the first time in 1962 with blues heroes such as Sonny Boy Williamson. Groups like the Animals or Yardbirds served as opening acts and Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page saw their black heroes for the first time and gained inspiration for their own music. Years later Lippmann & Rau, who had their origins in jazz music, brought exactly those guys over to Germany. 50 years later Horst Lippmann and
Fritz Rau’s efforts were finally acknowledged: in May 2012 Lippmann’s daughter Sylvia received an honoring in Memphis, Tennessee. The promoters were accepted in the Blues Hall of Fame. As you can learn in conversations with Frankfurt citizens they are not aware of many of the marks being left in the world by creative people from the Main region. For instance the Nordend based Rilke Projekt, which has sold amazingly 600.000 copies in the past ten years. Superstars like Peter Ustinov, Karlheinz Böhm, Jürgen Prochnow and Mario Adorf plus Nina Hagen, Wolfgang Niedecken and Laith Al-Deen served as famous reciters. When Mi Loco Tango, known for interpretations of Astor Piazzollas famous tango tunes, dedicated themselves to the soundtrack of a Nino Rota and Ennio Morricono movie by chance they won a special guest not only for their CD „Il Cinema: il Paradiso!“ but also for the release parties: Franco De Gemini and his harmonica. Famous for giving us goose bumps in „Once Upon A Time In The West“ he came all the way from Milan to the Main.
FROM FRANKFURT TO GOTHAM CITY Talking about movies: Howard Scarr, keyboarder of the band Abendroth, received a phone call from Hollywood. Film composer and music producer Hans Zimmer, also born in Frankfurt, was looking for assistance for the soundtrack of „The Dark Night“to develop sinister sounds. For the soundtrack to „Inception“ (starring Leonardo DiCaprio) Scarr was even listed as an associate composer. He was absolutely in line with an Academy Award and Grammy winner. By the way, there are various Grammy Awards having a new home in Frankfurt. Sound engineer Christoph Claßen received one for his Tannhäuser recording at Madison Square Garden conducted by Daniel Baremboim ten years ago, the Nordend based Brazilian Ivan Santos (who just got nominated again for the second time) w on the Latin Grammy for a song he composed in cooperation with L enine. From South- to North America Singer/ Songwriter Boo Hoo recorded his latest album “Afghan Hounds” being surrounded in the cultural environment of the New York anti-folk-scene from where Adam Green once set off to bring a new definition of folk to the world. He is more known at the Brooklyn Tea Party than at home. Singer and guitarist Aren Emirze´s soulmate lives in San Francisco. Billy Gould produced one of Harmful’s albums and was so fascinated by the energy of the music that he went on tour with the trio to then return to America with the intention to revive his resting legendary band. Thus a band from Frankfurt was involved in the comeback of Faith No More. When Emirze produces records in California regardless if with Harmful or the Armenian-inspired Emirsian, producer-legend Dave Sardy (Bush, Marilyn Manson, Noel Gallagher) likes to stop by. They have been sharing this friendship for some time. On the other side of the globe [re:jazz] and pianist/DJ Matthias Vogt were quiet famous in Japan. DJ-friend Shantel performed at international festivals first such as the Tim Festival in Rio de Janerio or the Festival Transmusicales in Rennes. 2010 Shantel was the first German artist to be a part of the Guča-trumpet festival in Serbia. A first class honoring. But there are more artists to look forward to: acoustic-soul-singer Kaye-Ree is ready to release her second album „New Air“. Inuki defines electro pop in new manners combining rock influences to a voice full of soul. Wolf Schubert-K. & The Sacred Blues Band are proving that blues, folk and country music do belong to Frankfurt. Okta Lounge are leaving their footprints all over Europe with their 70s inspired rock including Pink Floyd influences, even performing in London - the cradle of pop music. 2013 shall be the year of the next generation br inging along their f riends of Low500, B.E.E.S. Village and Kenneth Minor. So Frankfurt am Main in def initely coming back strong. Reiner Christian

SVEN VÄTH
Stefan Hantel is probably the only real popstar in Frankfurt am Main. Little is heard from Sabrina Setlur since her 2007 album „Rot“ and former member of Monrose Senna Guemmour shares the Popstars jury bench with Detlef D! Soost, Ex-No Angel Lucy and Ross Antony (Ex-Brosis). A solo album is announced – let’s wait and see. So it’s up to Shantel to be on the road as the music ambassador of Frankfurt. The Disco Partizani is a global player. It is folk music beyond being traditional but yet compatible with Musikantenstadl and its folklore appeal due to his trendiness. At first none of his f riends embraced his idea of the Bucovina Club. To solely focus on east European music didn’t sound cool to them and Shantel already enjoyed a great reputation as a freestyle and electronic DJ, also as the party editor of the city magazine Journal Frankfurt. But part of his philosophy has always been „Live your dream!“ Hantel’s grandparents of his mother’s family are from Bukowina. At the Schauspiel Frankfurt his Bucovina Club was very successful. „First and foremost my roots have never been in Anglo-American Rock’n’Roll culture“, Shantel realized at an early stage. A trip to the roots of one side of his family to Czernowitz resulted in additional and lasting inspiration. There he was able to unravel „those big question marks about what else might be a part of my own identity.“ Shantel’s music is present far beyond dance floors and stages. For example on soundtracks of the British comedian Sascha Baron Cohen alias Borat and in movies by the German-Turk director Fatih Akin. No surprises his „folk music“ doesn’t only enter the European World Music Charts but is also being honored in the ZDF show „Aspekte“.
„Väterchen“ Väth – For quite some time the now 48 year old is considered as the daddy of the techno scene. But the Obertshausen-born world citizen portrays himself as a never tired and agile DJ, label boss and club owner. These days his annual inventory of the season is being released: „Sven Väth In The Mix: The Sound Of The 13th Season“. The Cocoon-Ibiza adventure has constantly been documented. “This is always my musical review on the summer, my personal highlights and an excursion through the electronic genres from rather house to tech-house all the way to exper imental sounds” Väth said about volume 11 two years ago. That surely applies to the current mix as well. Ibiza has been Väth’s Wonderland since 1980. ”That was my first time on the island and my secret dream was ever since to one day have my own night there“, says Väth. That’s exactly what he accomplished on the island of the freaks and libertines and as a young father even built a house there, too. He spends the summer by the Mediterranean Sea and the wintertime by the Main river. Anyway, entering a plane to fly around the globe and play records is possible anywhere in the world. Mid of September his own disco temple made unexpected headlines: the Cocoon Club filed for bankruptcy but the management rushed to state immediately „Insolvency proceedings primarily serve to save a company and not to close it. The entire team is working on maintaining the club open and we will surely continue.“ 2013 will show if Väth will still have two home bases.

Christian Gingerich is a good salesman. Especially when it comes to promoting his alter ego Cris Cosmo. And even if he is the third act in the little bedouin tent of the „Frankfurter Sommerwerft“ he will be there before the first note is played, sets up his hawker’s tray (nowadays called merchandising) next to the stage and hands out flyers with info’s on when his gig is going to star t plus additional tour dates. Cosmo was on the road as a street musician, a tough but excellent school to realize what the people out there desire. He also gained inspiration at the „Popakademie“ in Mannheim to form his very own style. „German and Latin American lyrics, the acoustic guitar as the primary element and a mix of reggae, Latin American rhythms and club beats“ one can learn on Wikipedia. And with his songs giving you that summer feeling it doesn’t surprise that many of his performances take place in beach clubs where he also books other artists and has filled a gap on the market. „The Strandagentur (beach agency) is the first and only agency for live acts performing at city beaches, summer- and open air loc ations in the German speaking area“ is philosophy is explained on the website. With the single „Herzschlag“ (heartbeat) from his latest and third studio album „Mund zu Mund“ (mouth to mouth) Cosmo participated in Stefan Raab’s Bundesvision Song Contest on September 28th in Berlin presenting the state Hesse. „I’m not scared of Xavier Naidoo“, the self confident Kraichgau native was cited. Xavier won; Cosmo made the12th position, took it like a true Olympic and now dedicates himself to his mission to warm up his fans hear ts especially in fall and wintertime with his Lebenslust (love for life) lyrics and music. It’s been a long time waiting for Moses P. fans. In 1998 his first soloalbum “Geteiltes Leid” (shared trouble) was released. The Frankfurt based rapper who has made headlines when breaking TV host Stefan Raab’s nose was, however, understood differently by the media. On “Geteiltes Leid” sentences as “You are stupid, I’m good, you’re a match, I’m a zippo lighter” were proving self doubt and vulnerability.” Sascha Ziehn stated in Intro magazine. “Geteiltes Leid II” didn’t follow up until 2004 and part three finally in 2012. If one would have ran into Moses shopping downtown Frankfurt earlier this year and asked him about his upcoming release he would always be told the same answer: in autumn. For marketing matters the successful producer and label boss wanted to wait for the start of the new season of “X factor” where the Rödelheim hardrhymer (Rödelheim Harthreim Projekt is the name of one of his former projects putting Rödelheim as a district of Frankfurt on the map nationally) will be part of the jury next to Sarah Connor, Sandra Nasic and HP Baxxter. The show has started end of August and on November 9th his new album will hit stores. Old companions such as Cassandra Steen, Gentleman and even his former protégé with whom he used to have a dispute with, Xavier Naidoo, will be part of the final volume of his musical trilogy of about suffering and hurt. A live band recorded all of the music on the album. “At one point of his life Moses Pelham has decided to stand up, strip off his shackles and begin the research” the rap star had us informed “It took three albums and 14 years to show us a little bit of what he experienced on his journey, what he saw and learned. Love is everything. Or as it says in “Für die Ewigkeit” (for eternity) “And If I can handle it I’m telling you, “even love thy murderer with all of your heart” – and those are the last seven words. 3p – pelham power productions www.3-p.de

[RE:JAZZ]
To the occasion of the 10th label anniversary of INFRACom! 2002, Jan Hagenkötter and Name Vaughn dreamed of an exceptional anniversary record. When visiting jazz pianist and DJ Matthias Vogt’s performance at the Stereobar where his trio interpreted everything except jazz standards, they were rather surprised by Vogt’s version of “Release Your Mind” by Soul Patrol from the INFRACom!-catalogue. Without having any ulterior motive but it being „a little musical compliment so to say“, so the musician. “I was done with my performance and came to the bar when they already had chosen the name [re:jazz] and had completed the entire concept. At first I thought they were insane but later I had to change my mind”, Vogt laughs. On November 4th the band celebrates their tenth anniversary and record release party at the new Frankfurt based club Gibson presenting their fifth studio album „Kaleidoscope“. „We were looking for a title that illustrates the diversity of colors in our music“, comments the piano virtuoso. The first guiding idea behind the project was about acoustic jazz versions of electronic originals. They have been writing their own songs for quiet some time now and by now even laptops and loops are not a no-go anymore. However, many songs have turned out to be “more grounded and soulful.” Vogt says. Also because of the new voice. Even Medhia Rusempasic has got the blues. Other surprising facets are Latin boogaloo grooves, 5/4 beats, a homage to Chicago, oriental melodies, Drum’n’Bass beats and a Squarepusheradaption. “I try to make music without constantly thinking about certain genre. I leave that for others to do”, Matthias Vogt states. Label: INFRACom! rejazz.de / infracom.de

14 MUSIC CITY FRANKFURT
HANDS ON THE WHEEL We’re not trying to be fussy here. However, Tom Ripphahn has set up his Analoghausstudio in the Dögelmühle in Karben. That’s located 15 kilometers in the nor th of Frankfurt. But with his band Hands On The Wheel and as the singer of the band Abendroth the guitarist and dobro player has been a part of the Frankfurt music scene for many years and is present in the same clubs like his clients e.g. the group Elfmorgen or Klau who are releasing on the studio owned label. „Rock’n’Roll for Germany“ is what you read on the website and it totally speaks out for itself. Rock’n’Roll is what the whole studio is breathing and Ripphahn „likes to work with analogue reel-to-reel recorder the most“, however, doesn’t make it to an obligation. The music has to breathe and sound organic. As a consequence the latest album from Hands On The Wheel, „River of Time“, doesn’t only differ sound wise from the productions Ripphahn & Co. got to release enthusiastically with the major label EMI in the early nineties. The chemistry just wasn’t really there. Anyway, concerts with Joe Cocker, Bob Dylan and the Hooters are precious moments to remain for Ripphahn. Plus, they are totally in line with his heroes such as Robert Zimmerman, Neil Young and Townes van Zandt. All of them being storytellers with whom the man with the rough voice likes to be associated with. Other than many of his colleagues his self-evaluation is on point: „Forty-seven years of one’s lifetime are no chicken feed so don’t try to tell me about music trends and fashion and how an album is supposed to sound nowadays. My album ‘River Of Time’ sounds the way I wanted it to and I am pretty sure it’s hot like that.“ At least for once this is a very honest and thus likable statement. That’s why many band put their trust into him as their producer. Dk Label: analoghaus handsonthewheel.com / analoghaus.net

16 MUSIC CITY FRANKFURT
The Art of June studio in Frankfurt’s district Hausen is a treasure of the local studio scene. [re:jazz] have produced here as well as internationally well-respected artists such as the trumpeter Ack van Rooyen and his colleagues Erik Truffaz and Nils Petter Molvær who were guests in the loft of a former industrial building with it’s unique „feel good“ vibe. Lucid recorded their new album „What It Seems To Be“ in this studio just before Easter 2012. The singer, guitarist, pianist and sansula player Claudia Fink recruited the double bass player Christian Keul, who she has been making music with for a long time, tabla player Willi Kappich and harpist Lucianne Brady plus drummer Benno Bruschke and trumpeter Lukas Fink. Long ago the Frankfurt based singer/ songwriter has found and settled her very own and unique style of music, which is likely to be referred to as space folk. That’s exactly what makes Lucid competitive on an international level and allowed her being the support act for Mike Oldfield, My Brightest Diamond, Susanne Sundfør, Kimbra and Suzanne Vega. To use the atmosphere in the Art of June studio consequently the musicians invited audience to one live show in the evening opening their production process to the public. „I figured that I always sing differently being on stage than when I’m recording. It’s just so much more vivid because the energy is on a totally different level when you perform in front of an audience.“ Fink continues swarming and explains: „I like when everyone is close like that and part of the entire process and not just having listeners who consume and then leave.” A very special album was created this way and as a fan of L ucid´s music, studio owner Heinz Hess released the new CD on his Art of June-label. LUCID
KENNETH MINOR
Whether as a trio or solo, Jörg Christiani with voice and guitar – since releasing the CD „In That They Can‘t Help It“ Kenneth Minor is popular and enjoys sharing the stage with their friends of Okta Logue and B.E.E.S. Village „They still exist: musicians who make music just because they simply have to. Kenneth Minor prove that against all new trends and novelties the same old formula still applies to music.” amazon advertises the album. And Christiani being nonchalant and charismatic at the same time, embodies this absence of spirit of the time in such a confident way that in the end only one thing matters to the listener only: the authenticity of the music and the artist. Recording studio, label, live stage – Westerbachstrasse 47 was Hazelwood’s home for many years. The address was place of destination by Desert rocker Howe Gelb and Hüsker Dü-legend Grant Hard but also for many fans of Indie m usic with an individual character, which was presented there on the Yellowstage regularly in a casual atmosphere. However, after trouble with the landlord the contract was not extended. The label, founded in 1996 by Gordon Friedrich, Wolfgang Gottlieb and Denis Gudlin, has its office now in the Bachmannstraße and has outsourced the production work. The bands of the label like The Miserable Rich, The Grat Bertholinis and Mardi Gras.bb perform across the courtyard at the “Brotfabrik”. Hazelwood’s next coup will be the ne w album of Okta Logue that has already been picked up by the major Sony Music. And Hazelwood is supporting more locals. A new Kenneth Minor album is overdue.
