EYE Can Learn

Who: Primary school students When:

Begins 10th January 2017 – Tuesday 18:00 or Friday 16:30

(90 minutes session). Duration: 12 weeks.

Where: Casa di Gioia, via Vincenzo Monti 18 Roma Why: In order to be available and active in the learning process at an optimal level, the visual system must be working efficiently. The visual system consists of two major parts: 1. moving the eye muscles efficiently 2. taking in what we see and making sense of it in our brains.

The visual system is the foundation for forming symbols in our head and making sense of ideas in an organized manner.

“EYE Can Learn” Group addresses the underlying components of visual and body integration through fun activities

● Ocular-motor control: looking at the visual system it is important to look beyond visual acuity and take into consideration how the small muscles of the eyes are able to work together in a coordinated way (ocular-motor control). Moving our eyes across the paper or from the paper to the whiteboard without effort is key to reducing ocularmotor fatigue, which allows for increased attention ● Visual processing: how the brain takes in visual information and makes sense of it. There are many different components to visual processing, including: visual discrimination, visual memory, spatial relations, form constancy, sequential memory, visual figure ground, and visual closure ● Visual spatial processing: the ability to perceive information about an object’s position in space and your own body awareness when moving through 3-dimensional space How: All activities will take place in a fun and interactive group setting.

Therapists are trained in total development and will take social-emotional development into consideration throughout the group to ensure a positive experience for all children.
