The tenacity of plant vitality is also beyond our expectations. It is always silent on the outside but strong on the inside. But sometimes the life of plants is also very fragile and short. It makes me understand the profound meaning and truth of the sentiment of life. "

Lot 1024 "Pride" and Lot 1025 "Maple Leaf'' drawn in the early 1990s are all representative works of this series. Plant roots, stems, leaves, and flowers grow and spread gently from the painting, exuding a soft and steady oriental charm, and achieving a natural and internal balance between figurative and abstract. Just like Yang Chihung's explanation of plants: "The growth of plants is magical. It has a hidden power, persistent and firm. But it is so fresh and natural at the same time. And there is always a kind of joy of growth.

HSIAO Chin was born in Shanghai, China in 1935. His father HSIAO You Mei founded China's first conservatory of music and was an enlightener of modern Chinese music. In 1949, he came to Taiwan with his uncle. HSIAO's artistic development was inspired by LI Chun Shan, and together with HO Kan, HSIA Yan and WU Hao and other LI's apprentices, they established Taiwan's first modern art group, "Tong Fang Painting Association", with the purpose of conveying the spirit of oriental culture.

In the late 1950s, HSIAO Chin traveled around Spain, Italy, Paris, New York. He lived abroad for many years, constantly thinking about the integration of the spiritual meaning of oriental culture and modern art. He is one of the founders of the "Punto International Art Movement", dedicated to explore the finitude of infinity, trying to comprehend the true meaning of life. HSIAO Chin returned to Kaohsiung in 2014 and established the "HSIAO Chin International Art Foundation".

In addition to being a painter, RAN In Ting was also an art teacher, magazine president and editor-in-chief, a writer, and even a cultural ambassador. He was an anomaly among the senior painters under Taiwan's Japanese Rule who have ventured into the fields of media and diplomacy. In 1954, RAN was invited by the United States Department of State to exhibit in the United States for his outstanding performance in farming the countryside during his tenure in the magazine publishing house. He took over the chairmanship of Chinese Television System Inc.at the age of 71, and was also diligent in publishing articles in newspapers and magazines.

In 1903, RAN was born into a poor family in YiRAN. In 1920, he returned to his alma mater, Luodong Public School (now Luodong Elementary School) as an art teacher. He met his mentor in his artistic career, the Japanese watercolor painter ISHIKAWA Kinichiro (1871-1945), and became the favorite one among his students. With ISHIKAWA’s assistance, RAN obtained the qualifications, scholarships and subsidization of the Taipei Normal School as an elective student. ISHIKAWA

even recommended him to be the first in Taiwanese to work as an art teacher in 1929 at Taipei First Girls High School and Second Girls High School, the schools that only Japanese study.

In 1926, RAN participated in the organization of Taiwan's earliest painting group "Seven Stars Painting Group", which aimed to promote Taiwan's Western painting style. Being selected in the Taiwan Art Exhibition for 6 years continuously since 1926 was not only an honored affirmation, but also meant that his personal style had formed. In early 1940, he held a watercolor solo exhibition at the Taipei Education Center, and in 1958," RAN In Ting presents Scenes of America" was jointly organized by the United States Information Service and the National Museum of History. Those were the few solo exhibitions that RAN held in Taiwan during his lifetime. He actively participated in watercolor competitions in various countries, exhibited around the world, and joined foreign painting societies in England, Italy, China, and France. He was considered one of the top

ten watercolor painters in the world in the first session of the European Art Critic Society and the American Art Critic Society 1971.

The misty rain and the rushing clouds are the most striking impressions of RAN's watercolor paintings. The rainy Yilan is vividly represented in front of viewer’s eyes through his brushstrokes. Lot1056 "Returning Sails" , colorful fishing boats moored in order, sails and mast flags flying in the air, fishmans chatting with each other, it is a moment of leisure amid hard work. Rain is a common theme of Lan's painting, Lot1057's "Small Town" adopts a diagonal layout. The blue and purple sky, gathering clouds, rustling wind, and the bustling villagers on the trail heading to the village, some of them strolling with umbrellas, others walking quickly, implying that the storm is coming. Lot1122 "Washing by the River" depicts women doing laundry by the water, a young woman walking up the stairs along the right side, carrying her clothes back home, showing a simple rural daily life.

Lot1058 "Fields on the Plain" is not only one of his few large-scale works, but also one of the rare creations in his watercolors that deviate from the use of blue and purple colors. Peasants wearing bamboo hats, holding sickles, surrounded by chickens and ducks, are busy harvesting in golden rice fields under blue cloudy sky, the scene evokes the memory of tranquil countryside. Looking at Lot1059 "Working on the Fields in Spring" is like looking down at the countryside. Your sight first falls on the moving ducks in the lower right corner, following the path, we can see the ox carts and farmers, the red brick houses, the bamboo forests, and the mountains in clouds and mists in the distance, presenting a peaceful scene. The fusion of Western watercolor and Eastern ink constructs RAN’s unique painting style, Lot1123 "The Way Back Home" uses ink and lines to complete the chiaroscuro that Western paintings value, and at the same time highlights the tenderness and slenderness of oriental ink sketches.

YANG Ying Feng, named Yuyu, was born in Yilan in 1926.

He once worked in the magazines"Feng Nian"with Lan Yinding, who is a Taiwanese watercolor painter.

In 1970, he made a big splash at the Osaka International Exposition with the sculpture of a phoenix spreading its wings, which symbolizes Chinese culture.

Three years later, he was recommended by the Chinese architect I.M. and made the "East West Gate" by Oriental Philosophy. After that he become an internationally renowned sculpture master.

In addition to studying sculpture creation, Yang is also interested in and promotes the work of nurturing art such as life aesthetics, public art, and landscape sculpture.

YANG said: "I have studied Chinese culture and life aesthetics all my life, and found that the simple, healthy, and harmonious cultivation of the Wei and Jin Dynasties is the spirit of Chinese culture.

I hope to apply its spiritual modernization to life aesthetics and guide China.Make it modernizatio, internationalization and provide a new direction and new hope for the chaos caused by utilitarian and materialistic values around the world.”

After 1970s, YANG's sculpture style became more mature, adopting the abstract vocabulary of modernism, combined with stainless steel metal materials, expounding the profound cultural heritage of China, among which Lot 1094 "East West Gate" and Lot 1095 "Advent of the Phoenix II", in His "Stainless Steel Series" of modern sculpture plays a pivotal

role. Lot 1094 "East West Gates" is extracted from Chinese garden landscaping techniques, using the "moon gate" shape as the main body, taking the "circle" from the "square", and using the "circle" as a "screen" to place obliquely in front. It makes it difficult for the viewer to see through the hollowed out part, just like the spirit of Chinese philosophy, which cannot be easily understood for a while; secondly, the "circle" is used as a mirror to observe oneself, and provides a place for meditation and reflection in the perfect image of the moon gate.

" Advent of the Phoenix" has developed four forms in YANG's artistic career. YANG once made the following statement about this series: "The phoenix is the most beloved spiritual bird and auspicious bird in China. The rhyme conveys the longing for the ideal realm, as if all the beauty and goodness come flying on the wings of the phoenix. The smooth and concise curvature and the cloud water patterned on the iceclean surface symbolize the freedom of flying on the top of the mountain and among the water Leisurely." Lot 1095 " Advent of the PhoenixII" takes the phoenix turning its head up as the main character.

With the traditional Chinese paper-cut and paper carving techniques, the simple stainless steel sheets are assembled layer by layer. The pieces are slender and smooth.

While turning the body, the stainless steel The material reflects the external environment on it, as if riding on the wings of a phoenix, flying vigorously, soaring into the sky, and setting off to pursue dreams.

PU Hao Ming , who was born in an artistic family during Japanese rule, not only inherited the artistic enthusiasm of his grandfather CHEN Cheng Bo, but also influenced by his sculptor father PU Tian Sheng’s rigorous creative attitude.

The formation of PU Hao Ming's sculpture style was based on learning the advantages of other artists, it can be divided into 2 stages: first, after graduating from the Chinese Culture University in 1967, he began the training for sculpture as his father as his tutor for thirteen years, learning from Fumio Asakura’s western classical sculpture techniques and concepts from classical Greece to modern Rodin; secondly, he went to Belgium and France take up advanced studies from 1980 to 1984,and followed the trend of Western abstract sculpture. He was selected into the French Artists Salon, Paris Autumn Salon and French Independent Salon. After completing his studies, he began to establish his own language of art, and developed modern sculpture creations that not only inherit the classics but also are loyal to himself.

PU believes: "Getting to the bottom of it, the root of the evolution of form, in classical traditional sculpture, will give great strength, and there will be no lack of development." The tradition of realistic sculpture has always provided infinite inspiration for creators, and the emergence of the classical realistic series is Pu’s derived and earliest series of creations. The realistic sculpture expresses the softness and gentleness of the oriental human body. Lot 1097 " Silence" takes PU’s wife as model. The woman sits with her feet sideways, her body leans slightly to the other side, her arms tilt to the right, one hand is hidden behind her back, the other rests on her calf, she bows her head in silence, revealing the dignity and restraint of an oriental woman , and shape the beauty of the human body with fineness.

In 1900, he met André DERAIN, one of the founders of Fauvism, they rented a studio together in the same year, and started a period of mutual inspiration in creation, and were deeply influenced by Van Gogh's use of bright colors. DERAIN once wrote when recalling the relationship between the two: " Immersed in color all day long, talking about color and the sun that brings it to life.”

In 1905, they and Henri MATISSE caused a sensation at the Paris Autumn Salon (Salon des Indépendants et d'Automne). Their works were pure and strong, those were beyond all values, artistic and cultural references at that time, howling with color , overturning the exhibition hall. This is how "Fauvism" comes from. Since then, Vlaminck has become famous in the painting world. His brushstrokes are broad and confident, and he expresses wild and unruly creativity with strong colors. After 1907, Vlaminck was influenced by Cézanne, and the color scheme tended to be unified, relatively calm, and spatial geometry and lines were used. In 1925, bold and courageous to change, he combined Van Gogh's passionate brushstrokes with Cézanne's stable composition to create a unique self-style.

In 1954, he was invited to participate in the Venice Biennale. In 1956, he was elected as an academician of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerpen. His landscape paintings are extraordinary, and he is regarded as the real landscape painting master of modern art.

Lot 1098 "Storm" is an extraordinary landscape creation that combines unrestrained strokes, use of color, and love for nature. VLAMINCK’s sky is dense with dark clouds, with rain, hail and natural disasters, and the last few flat clouds capture the light and illuminate the canvas. Large areas of yellow and green are spread out as the main colors. The strong contrast between the upper and lower color lump and the light and dark tones make the picture full of tension, as if far away from the glitz of the city, in the endless wheat field. The dark trees grow frantically on the left, adding some natural dynamics to the open plains.

Born in Paris in 1928 and entered theNational School of Fine Arts in Paris when it was 1943, the French expressionist master Bernard BUFFET has been highly favored since the beginning of his artistic career. In 1947, at the age of 19, he held his first solo exhibition in Paris, which sold out his works. In 1948, he won the Critics' Prize (Le Grand Prix de la Critique) for "Two Men in a Room" (Deux hommes dans une chambre). After that, he became famous internationally, and in the same year, he met the gallery owner MauriceGarnier (Maurice Garnier), the two have collaborated since then. Buffet was also selected as one of the ten outstanding postwar artists, and exhibited worldwide. In 1973, Japanese collector OKANO Kiichiro established Bernard Buffet Museum in Japan. Buffet created more than 8,000 works in his lifetime, which are high quality and rich in variety, including subjects such as portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and history and religion.

Buffet's works have a distinctive style. In the era when abstract art prevailed, he still insisted on defending expressive figurative art style. For him, painting is not for analysis, but for feeling. He uses dark black, brown, and green tones to express the tall and angular figures in the picture, with a strong sense of verticality, filled with emptiness and silence. It is a portrayal of the state of anger, sorrow, and despair of hardly finding a way out for young people in France that have been through World War II.

In the 1960s, when abstraction was highly praised.Buffet's obsession with his own style once caused him to fade out of the French art circle. Even though he was awarded ‘’ The National Order of the Legion of Honor’’ in 1971, and became a member of the French Academy of Fine Arts in 1974. Until 2016,. The solo exhibition held at Paris' Museum of Modern Art and Montmartre Museum brought him back into the visionof the French public and gained belated recognition. Buffett suffered from Parkinson's disease in his later years and was unable to paint anymore. He committed suicide in 1999 at the age of 71.

Lot 1099 " Nature morte à la lampe et aux tomates " is a classic stilllife work that Buffet draw when become famous overnight at the age of 20. With beige as the main tone, the background expresses the artist's crazy waving, as if scratching. The lines are black and thick, and common daily elements such as dining tables, kerosene burner, tableware and food are displayed in the enclosed space, presenting the life of the French people after world war. People sometimes regard his stilllife works as tragic works. In fact those are the true reflection of the impoverished reality of the time, a testimony to the chaotic post-war era.

Salvador DALI 1904 25 1929 1933

Salvador DALI was a representative figure of Surrealism in the 20th century art world. Born in Spain in 1904, at the age of 25, he participated in and devoted himself to the surrealist movement, and developed the paranoiac-critical method to pursue a more active and conquering way of expression. The period from 1929 to 1933 can be said to be the most diverse one of Dali's creations. He was good at transferring certain parts of the objects in his works into other things, producing a different visual effect.

DALI has attracted worldwide attention for daring to challenge established concepts and subverting traditional aesthetics and social values. His works are full of energy, trying to shake off the shackles of reason and to dig out the truest side of human beings. With unexpected transformation, surprising decomposition and assembly, combined with dreamlike colors, presents a kaleidoscopic work that seems to declare that absolute personal freedom is the perfect guarantee for the progress of human civilization.

Lot1101 "Melting Clock", a softly deformed clock hanging from a branch of a tree, with the hour hand pointing at six. In the surrealist imagination, time and space are both illusory and unreal. There is no past and future in dreams, and the rules constrained by time in the real world are gradually disintegrating, opening up endless space for imagination.

NARITA Satoko was born in Aichi Prefecture, Japan in 1970, and is currently working in Nagoya. Three years after graduating from the Design Department of the Faculty of Art of the Aichi Prefectural University of Arts and Music, she entered the Toyama City Institute of Glass Art for the Glass Certification Studies Program. In 2000, she was selected into the New Glass Review 22 of the Corning Museum Of Glass in the United States, winning the affirmation of international awards. She also received a commendation for her achievements in the field of picture book illustration. In 2004, she won the Grand prize in the 20th Nissan Grand Prize of a Fairy Tale and a Picture and subsequently published the picture book "Kakashigon(The Scarecrow)".

Narita Satoko was invited to participate in sculpture exhibitions in major cities in Japan, Suzhou in China and Taichung in Taiwan. She held three exhibitions at Galerie Pierre in Taichung: a group exhibition "Daily un Daily" in 2014, a double solo exhibition “Fascinated Moment” in 2016 , and another double solo exhibition "Warm Flavoured" in 2019.

She is known for combining two completely different materials, wood and glass, to create innocent creatures with different expressions and postures. The round shape and rough texture of wood, and the transparent and cold surface of glass, give a harmonious feeling of warmth and coldness.

Lot 1102 "Looking up at the Sky" The creature raised his head slightly, looking at the clouds and birds in the sky with a calm expression, standing alone, immersed in his own fantasy world. His big face is decorated with small facial features and looks innocent and cute, and the creature makes himself more amiable with his scent of wood wafting through the air.

Walasse TING went to Paris in 1952. During his stay there, his horizons broadened with Henri Matisse’s influences. His painting style was gradually moved towards using simplistic lines and flat composition. The traditional Western one-point perspective and shade and shadow painting techniques were no longer used in Ting’s works. He otherwise painted more straightforward and sketched more quickly.

In 1960, Ting moved to New York and developed his now distinctive style using Chinese calligraphic brushstrokes to define outlines and filling flat areas of color with vivid paint. His styles changed from the early abstract paintings to the depiction of nude body.

Ting was popular with using freehand brushwork to combine female nudes and lush flowers to create poetical feelings. Perhaps some individuals think that the eroticism of the women depicted in his paintings is too strong. But Ting was generously admitted that he appreciated the flirtatious of female bodies and visiting the red-light districts without being affected by the rumors.

Lot 1103 "three women "based onmagenta, with graceful curves, holding flowers shows Ting’s love for women. It creates a unique female image. He likes to use colored pencil, and uses a more freehand way to praise women’s posture. He uses gorgeous the flat paintbrush with acrylic paints to paint the space within lines. It expresses the unrestrained picture structure and makes the whole picture look natural and chic.

George CHANN 1925 21

(The Otis Art Institute) 1947 1949 50 (Jason POLLOCK) Willem de KOONING 1960 1970 1980 Lot 1105

George CHANN was born in Guangdong but left for the United States with his father in 1925. He attended Otis College of Art and Design at 21 and began teaching there after he graduated. When CHANN returned to his homeland from 1947 to the end of 1949, he was touched by the ancient Chinese culture, which prompted his concern and understanding about China. CHANN went back to the United States in the 50’s when Abstract Expressionism was starting to become a prominent school. Jason Pollock's “drip technique” and Willem de KOONING's “action painting” inspired him to start the experiment going from concrete to abstract art. CHANN created his unique Chinese modern abstract style by combining ancient ritual bronzes and Chinese calligraphy elements. He ravaged and destroyed them, or modified them by clipping, blurring the text, then collaging and mounting them on the canvas.

In the 1970s and 1980s, CHANN’s raffish abstract creations matured, but he still draws on traditional Western motifs. Lot 1105 "Still Life" is an outstanding work completed under this circumstance. The use of colors such as green, yellow, red and blue with high chroma and low value creates a lively atmosphere. Massive amount of English newspapers are glued together and covered under the paint, adding another textual variety to his painting that oil alone would not have achieved. Guided by the yellow and red lines, a sloping table seems to appear at the lower right, flamboyant blooming flowers placed on it present a vibrant and youthful still life work, which is completely different from the tranquil feeling that still life paintings usually give.

Arman FERNANDEZ was born in Nice, France in 1928. Arman not only learned oil painting and photography from his father who was an antique dealer and an amateur cellist but also inherited the love for music and his preference for musical instruments from him. He had a degree in philosophy and mathematics, and studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs(ENSAD) and Ecole du Louvre, these extensive learning experiences have formed a steady basis of imagination for his artistic creations.

Arman was deeply influenced by Dadaism and Pop Art, he was a leader of neo-realism and a master of contemporary accumulation art. His unique creatives and techniques have allowed him to hold a special place in the contemporary art circle. He was knighted in 1991, and received the Legion of Honor in 1993. His artworks are in the collections of world class museums such as Metropolitan Museum of Art, Tate Modern, and Centre Georges-Pompidou.

Accumulation is Arman's most famous style, he especially preferred to use daily utensils and industrial objects range from musical instruments, automobiles to clock parts. Through the division, disassembly and accumulation of repetition, Arman liberates the inherent concept of objects, gives a new definition to the things that we are used to, and preserves the objects in his unique way .

Lot1140 "Sans Titre" Arman cut out the shapes of a violin on blue, orange, and brown that are randomly painted on white paper, gluing them on the canvas, like a paper relief, showing natural bends and curves. The vivid colors are like a sequence of cheerful tunes, lively and rhythmic. Arman presents an intangible sense of music through figurative images, allowing viewers to witness the melody of violins.
