Tuck’s 2019 Holiday Look Book It’s almost unbelievable to think it’s been an entire year since I put together last year’s ‘opening remarks’ on our third Look Book from Tuck! As they’re starting to do with increasing regularity, this year has flown by. So many changes and signs of growth, not only in our business, but in Uptown Saint John. It’s been fascinating to watch the growth of the latter. I remember back in October 2015 when we made the formal announcement that we were going to expand and bring Tuck uptown. In that there was little to no retail on our block of Prince William Street, we were warned that the move might prove fatal to our business. So, we said, “We’ll be the first and start the ball rolling”. And we weren’t wrong: Since we opened our doors (almost 4 years ago) the retail & hospitality on our street has grown to the point where people occasionally now complain about parking! The aforementioned growth has now reached Water Street; store fronts, hostels and restaurants shine at night. The relocation of AREA 506 to Water Street was a real injection of life! With Jones Gallery, Visitor’s gallery + shop, and visionary citizens renovating upper-level condos, Union Street -- arguably one of the most important access avenues into the city – is likewise enjoying a renaissance. In sum, our city centre is finding itself again simply because greater Saint John is supporting business uptown. As we approach the holiday season, this, our third Look book, is all about trying our best to capture the unique spirit of our store via photographic ‘vignettes’ of 122 Prince William Street, a historic gem built in 1878, the year after the Great Fire. Through the lens of Kelly Lawson, we hope to foster what is most distinctive about local, uptown shopping; that is, a location where you get lovely packaging, where the store staff know you by name and deeply appreciate the fact that you are supporting local. So, grab a coffee or a glass of wine and, after perusing these pages, grab your coat, your family, your friends, your pets and head out to visit us on Prince William Street.

Tuck is a furniture & home decor store in Saint John, New Brunswick. An all around Design Destination. Eight years ago, Tuck started as a small studio on Level Zero of Judith Mackin’s home, a thoughtful, architectdesigned space that welcomed friends, family and a list of clients that steadily grew into a loyal following. So much so, it had to expand. Over the last eight years, a community of supporters has grown around Tuck. We are touched by, and fiercely proud of, the way our hometown of Saint John, New Brunswick, has embraced us and helped spread the word to clients across Canada (and the USA). Pamela Marie Pierce
Born in New Brunswick, Ryan studied craft at NBCCD, considers himself to be an artist unbound by medium. His artwork has a visual language that has been intensely shaped by his east-coast heritage.
A multi-disciplinary artist who works primarily in pen and ink, watercolour, and gouache. She considers every illustration a portrait, regardless of how seemingly azoic a subject may appear.
Chris Lloyd’s artistic investigations probe the complexities of contemporary life. His projects manifest themselves in a wide range of mediums, including drawing, painting, printmaking, video, performance, installations and politics.
Christiana Myers
An artist and curator currently living and working in Saint John, New Brunswick, Christiana holds a BFA from Mount Allison University and maintains a practice in painting and installation.

Robert Moore teaches American literature at the University of New Brunswick. Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Started in the arts as an actor, then wrote some plays, wrote some poetry, then took up painting.

About our Saint Soap Collaboration Rugged Beauty: The Soap is a completely local product, from its rich and novel blend of ingredients, to its artwork, to its design, to its packaging. It was born out of our desire to honour the distinctive charm and character of Saint John, the city we love so much. When I saw the painting we’re using for the branding of this soap — one of Robert Moore’s ‘Ophelia’ series — it struck me that it perfectly captured the spirit of strength, mystery and hard-won integrity I so much associate with this city by the sea. The Artist: Robert Moore teaches English at the University of New Brunswick. He began his formal life in the arts as an actor, then he wrote some plays, then he directed a bunch of plays, then he wrote some poetry, then he took up painting. Currently, his favourite quote about painting is from John Singer Sargent: “A portrait is a painting with something wrong with the mouth.” Dish: Umbra Large/Raya designed by Jonathan Adler. This soap dish is made with high-fired ceramic stoneware and a semigloss glazed finish. Umbra Square/Scillae designed by Gensler: This soap dish is made with melamine/matte finish.

Living Uptown sure has its perks but one of the work arounds is the small apartments! That's why I love the Brothers Dressler Hang Ups since they act as hooks and as art! With each one being made of found wood, scrap material, salvaged hardware and up-cycled automotive parts, they sure are a great conversation piece.

I found these little fellows, with their long necks, very dashing, so dashing, in fact, that I bought one and he now resides on a shelf in my home.
