Executive Summary Since our last update, a major milestone was met. We are pleased to report that despite the many complexities and challenges involved, the through-floor tie in work associated with this phase has been completed ahead of our target date. For months, crews have been re-piping, routing ductwork and re-wiring through the ceilings on the 6th floor in order to bring life to 7. These communicationheavy activities required hospital facilities staff, nursing staff, subcontractors and E&V to work in complete unison hourby-hour, day-by-day. Marking the end of these activities will allow the project to officially move from the rough-in phase and into the finish phase. With this shift comes an exciting time for the project. The first coats of paint now bring color to the patient rooms and corridors. Following in stride, the casework supplier is delivering truckloads of cabinets. As these detailed items arrive, carpenters are beginning their extensive installation of what will total hundreds of individual pieces. The lower halves of the patient rooms are receiving wall protection,
while ceiling grid is installed above. Finally, decorative wall tile is going up in the patient bathrooms. With the many finish trades at work, it won’t be long until the space transforms once more into a completion state. With roughly three months remaining until patients move in, the group is remaining focused and already strategizing for upcoming phases. We look forward to the continued momentum and success of those involved with the project. Joe Novakoski, P.E., LEED A.P. Vice President / Senior PM

The Look Ahead
Most trades have now transitioned into finishes such as wall tile, paint, casework, and ceiling grid. These activities will continue to ramp up throughout the next month as the project starts taking the final shape. Looking forward, we will begin work in the elevator lobby. Everyone involved with the project has worked very hard and we are pleased with the way things are coming together. -Joe Shashaguay, Field Manager

Did You Know? As of mid-February, the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration reported that the Great Lakes were nearly 88% covered in ice, up from the long term average of 51%. One of the highest percentages recorded in recent history was in 1979 when ice covered nearly 95% of the lakes. Years like this can cause major stress on the billion dollar shipping industry. Vessels transport nearly 115 million tons of cargo on these waterways each year. Currently, nine
US Coast Guard ice-breakers are playing a major role in maintaining open shipping routes. Of the fleet is a ship known as the Mackinaw, an incredibly powerful 240 foot ice-breaker. One of the largest ice-breakers in the world is the 399 foot Polar Star, which was recently slated to rescue an Antarctic research team. The Polar Star is capable of streaming continuously through 6 feet of ice and is able to ram and break ice up to 21 feet thick!

SPOTLIGHT Century Flooring is off to a great start. We had a kick off meeting with the entire team to discuss the proper procedures for installing a clean, detailed and water tight system. They have since started to install wall tile in the patient toilet room and are making great progress. Thank you, Century, for the great job so far!
