Bed Tower

Executive Summary The Cafeteria and Bed Tower have seen some major changes since our last update. The Cafeteria project has now expanded its footprint to include the existing dining and food prep space. Demolition is in full swing in the former cafeteria, and very soon the area will be unrecognizable. The dining addition continues to take shape and is now gaining some character as the decorative stone work begins. Behind the scenes, mechanical and plumbing contractors have made great strides towards their extremely complex work in the basement and penthouse. Several new air handling units have already been craned into place on the roof, some of which are already up and running. The largest air handler will be installed in the basement. Similar in size to a travel trailer, this unit must be assembled piece-bypiece in order to fit through the small doors leading to the mechanical room.

Up in the Bed Tower, 8 South and 7 South have been fully cleared of existing finishes and are now entering the rebuilding stage. 8 South is almost completely framed out, allowing mechanical, plumbing and electrical contractors to perform their rough-ins. With the unoccupied and fully accessible space below, the progress of these activities has been tracking very well. 7 South will follow closely behind 8, with floor prep and framing layout beginning in the coming weeks. With only increased amounts of activity in sight, we look forward to the progress that will occur in the month to come! Joe Novakoski, P.E., LEED A.P. Vice President / Senior PM

SPOTLIGHT This month’s spotlight goes to Bouma Corporation. They have stepped up their manpower to move quickly through the 8S phase of construction, giving us the added edge we need to move forward through this complex part of the project. Thanks for your hard work, Bouma Corp!

Cafeteria Breaking through! The Look Ahead Once the space is fully demolished, we will start framing the new walls. The penthouse shown at the right will be sided by the end of the week, and then we will start to demo the temporary roof inside. The next couple stages will include roughing in new walls, preparing for drywall, and closing in the new café space. Installing insulated panels on penthouse
