Executive Summary I think I speak for everyone when I say that this summer has flown by! Students are already returning to school, the days are getting shorter once more and the Cafeteria and Bed Tower projects are pushing towards their next major milestones. The demolition phase of the existing cafeteria space proved to be an enlightening time for the team as a matrix of utilities feeding the kitchen were uncovered. With new goals of creating a more enriched and open space below, the team set to work on reworking the existing systems to make way for the new. A great effort of engineering, field coordination and collaboration with hospital facilities has helped the project continue forward! Beyond that, walls and bulkheads are being framed, giving shape to the new space. Outside, the penthouse and mechanical chase have been enclosed with metal panels, and the south masonry wall is being fitted with decorative stone.
In the bed tower, rooms are taking shape! Over the last month, framers have been busy building all of the new patient and support areas. Following closely behind, the mechanical and electrical crews have been roughing-in their piping, ductwork and conduit. A major milestone of the project that was recently met is the turnover of the new water main on the 8th floor. Plumbers have been working diligently to replace the existing lines. After weeks of preparation, the water to four floors was temporarily shut down while the final connections and switch to the new main occurred - yet another major coordination effort by contractors and hospital staff. Well done by all! Joe Novakoski, P.E., LEED A.P. Vice President / Senior PM

SPOTLIGHT This month’s spotlight goes to Allied Mechanical. As we move through the domestic water changeover and work in PMU, Allied has increased their manpower and hours to accommodate the complex nature of the work on 8S. Allied Mechanical is a tremendous asset to this project and we thank them for their hard work! Inside Scoop | August 2014

Rough-In The Look Ahead Looking ahead, we will finish interior walls and mechanicals on 8S and move into the drywall phase. On 7S, we have started on interior walls and have begun our mechanical shutdowns through the PMU. The project is staffed well and is moving along smoothly. 7th floor cooridor looking north

Cafeteria Rough-In The Look Ahead Looking forward, we will begin to drywall the walls and the many bulkheads. This will mark a major milestone in the project and allow us to push forward, away from rough-in and on to finishes. Once the drywall is finished, painters will join the crews on the interior and add color to the space. Outside, the glass curtain wall will be installed, fully enclosing the addition to the exterior elements.
