DECORATIVE PANELS GOING IN

PROJECT MANAGEMENT UPDATE

Jared Andersen Project Manager

It has been yet another great month for progress on Phase 1 of the Boven renovations with finishes, final framing, and temporary passages all being put into place. Headwalls, footwalls, and other finish millwork is close to completion. This is a very exciting time for the team as they see their hard work coming together. It is also a great showcase of the skill of finish carpenters and millwork suppliers as they bring the architect’s vision into reality. Final mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems have also been put into place. These extremely complex systems, necessary to support a hospital birthing unit, are continuing to be hidden by drywall and ceilings. With painting continuing, flooring and final millwork on the horizon, we look forward to the final weeks of Phase 1.

FUN FACT Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, located in Taiwan, is the largest and busiest hospital on Earth. Every year it sees 8.2 million patients, 2.4 million of them being inpatient cases. With a mere 10,000 licensed beds, this represents 53 times more beds than the 189 that make up Holland Hospital!

SAFETY Matters

Looking Ahead Chris Workman, Field Engineer ChrisW@elzinga-volkers.com | 616.914.1982 Things are beginning to come together in the finishes portion of the project. We are continuing to hang drywall and finish in our last area of the first phase, as well as applying a first coat of paint throughout the whole space. Millwork install has begun in the post-partum rooms, and headwall systems are already in place. Soon, our custom barn door frames for the patient rooms will be installed by E&V’s self-perform carpentry crew as they continue to plug away at finishing out the space. Lastly, flooring and tile in the bathrooms will begin, bringing the bathrooms to a nearly complete stage.

Elzinga & Volkers is very proud of the safety culture we have instilled in our people and partners, but we are not perfect. In an effort to continually improve our safety program and introduce new perspective into our organization, Elzinga & Volkers utilizes a team of outside consultants to perform random, unannounced safety audits of our project sites. Our safety consultant Seth Wehner with SW MGT, has over 15 years of experience in construction safety and works with contractors all over the country creating world class safety programs. Seth is an Authorized OSHA 10 and 30-hour instructor, level one MIOSHA certified, and is a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE). Seth is an integral part of our safety team!

This month we would like to recognize Meulenberg Painting and Decorating in our team spotlight for who is onsite. MPD has been a huge asset to us and the quality of work they do is outstanding. Their attention to detail when it has come to the prep stage is going to help immensely with the way this project will turn out in the end. Their willingness to work with our schedule and still meet our quality standards has been very important as we reach the final finishes.
