PROJECT MANAGEMENT UPDATE

Matt Wintjes Assistant Project Manager

Hang in there folks, the Kresge Addition is almost complete! Over the past month, the construction team has been focusing their attention on the center area and west wing. All of the flooring in the west wing is complete and the final touches are coming together. The final coat of paint and wallpaper is finished on the east wing and is also nearing completion on the west wing. All of the local MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) have been completed. The bakery is almost ready for inspections as all the food service equipment is installed and the final connections are wrapping up. The trade contractors onsite have done a great job installing some intricate details, including suspended millwork panels and a stacked stone fireplace. Kudo’s to Dobie Construction and CIR for their attention to detail! Fun Fact: Over 77,250 man hours, involving approximately 468 trades people, have been worked onsite thus far! The common theme for the McMullen Wellness Center has been “coordination”. With the elaborate tile work on the horizon, the construction team has been working towards wrapping up all the work necessary to allow for the tile setters to do what they do best. This past month brought all the focus in on the trade contractors work above the pool deck. This included the HVAC trade contractor installing the hangars for the duct sock, the electricians installing their recessed can lights, framing of soffits and finishing of the wallboard. The masons also completed all of the block work for the restrooms/locker rooms for the pool and, last but not least, the architectural staircase has been installed on the south side of the building. From the construction team, we hope you all had a wonderful holiday and thank you for joining us for another edition of Building Together.

Building Together | Construction Update Newsletter UMRC - Chelsea, MI - December 2018 KRESGE EXPANSION & RENOVATIONS | UP NEXT Over the next four weeks, the whole team onsite will be completing our finishes. The east wing resident rooms are complete aside from a few final touch-ups. The west wing has wrapped up with resident room flooring. The east wing corridor wall coverings have begun and will soon be followed by the flooring. The center connector will be the last to be finished just before we begin our inspection phase with the state starting January 9th. MCMULLEN WELLNESS & AQUATIC CENTER | UP NEXT Over the next few weeks, the elevator should be completed as we have had a few setbacks with ordered parts. The tile work will start soon, and once it does it will take us nearly to completion of the job. The architect has added a few changes here and there to the scope of work for the project. The natural gas has been scheduled, which will release the temporary heat we have had for nearly two months. We will also be looking to tie the fire sprinkler system into the existing system within the next couple of weeks as well. We hope to be doing finishes here in the next few weeks until the completion of the project.

KRESGE RENOVATIONS

Our team spotlight this month focuses on Allied Electric and Shareco. They treat each task performed as if they were working on their own home, taking great pride in their workmanship. Garrett Kruse, Mike Jousma and the crew are instrumental in keeping our schedule moving forward while maintaining high quality workmanship.
