The month of December has been productive as all of the trade contractor’s onsite have been making strides on all three projects as well as adjusting to the frigid temperatures that winter commonly presents.

The Benson Office renovations have presented a few hiccups in regards to rerouting existing mechanical, electrical and plumbing, as well as the continued discovery of asbestos throughout the building. The end result has postponed the structural demolition of the South wing of Benson, however, the team is pushing forward on the inside of the building and will begin framing the new interior as demolition on each floor wraps up. Dan Faulkner has been working with our excavating, concrete, and steel contractors in preparation for foundation and footings on the Wellness Center and Kresge Addition as we roll into the New Year.

KRESGE | UP NEXT We completed the new water main install and tie-in on each end of Kresge this week. The service road on the West end of the project has been reconfigured and now goes around the building addition where we started foundation work this week. The foundation work will take about four weeks depending on weather. The underground MEPs (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) will follow immediately after foundation work with the plumbing trade contractor having the most to do in the next few weeks.

BENSON OFFICE BUILDING | UP NEXT We are in the process of demolishing the MEPs on the third and fourth floors. The carpet and glue was removed from all rooms on the North wing to get ready for framing which started last week. In the South wing of the third and fourth floors, which is the portion of the building that will be completely demolished, the majority of the interior walls have been removed, leaving the space wide open. In the next four to six weeks we will be framing and installing the rough-in for the MEPs on the North wing followed by inspections. After that, we will get to work on installing and finishing drywall. We will continue demolition in the South wing, with a goal of completely demolishing the structure shortly after the first of the year.

Bailey Excavations has been instrumental in the underground wet utility installation and demolition of existing utilities to be removed.

In addition, they have worked on the dirt work for the new Kresge foundation addition, working through very cold weather and near blizzard conditions to stay on track with the project.
