PROJECT MANAGEMENT UPDATE
Matt Wintjes Assistant Project Manager
Spring has sprung and so has the construction activity. As you may have noticed the once desolate construction site, is now busy with concrete, masonry and structural steel. In regards to constructibility, the Kresge Addition and the McMullen Wellness Center are starting similar phases, but will incorporate different building components. The majority of the Kresge Addition consists of cold formed metal stud framing and shear walls all tied in together with roof joists. These roof joists act as a fastener and will distribute the loading onto these walls as designed. On the other hand, the majority of the McMullen Wellness Center is constructed of structural steel beams and columns. These beams and columns are designed to allow for this complicated structure to support long spans which allows for the space needed to build the pool. Both buildings share unique aspects of constructibility and are designed around their purpose and function. As construction progresses into June, you will have a front row seat to these different structural components and how they all get put into place. Fun Fact: We have 25,000 man hours with no lost time or accidents thus far. That number includes all three projects! Matt Wintjes, Assistant Project Manager MattW@elzinga-volkers.com
