PROJECT MANAGEMENT UPDATE

Matt Wintjes Assistant Project Manager

Welcome back to another edition of Building Together! Since our last update, a lot has changed onsite. The most noticeable progress that you folks may have noticed is that the sitework, including fine grading and asphalt, has been completed around the Kresge Addition. On the inside, the east wing is nearing completion as the ceiling grid is in, the light fixtures are set, and the flooring in the resident room bathrooms is installed. The MEP’s have completed all the above ceiling inspections on the east wing and have been focusing their attentions on the west wing and center area. Over the last few weeks, the construction team has put in motion their plan to connect the addition to the existing building. This has included demolition, infilling and patching of exterior walls and block work. Even though the snow has started, we hope that everyone still has their swim trunks readily available! The McMullen Wellness Center is not far behind the Kresge Addition as these last few months have brought the completion of the pool and spa shell, as well as all of the underground piping. Coordination amongst the trades has remained the key to planning out and completing the project’s extensive MEP work and architectural finishes. The pool deck has been poured and the trades are working to complete all of their ceiling finishes before the tile work begins. Like the Kresge Addition, the construction team has prepped over the last few weeks to tie-in the building to Dancey House. A temporary construction wall has been put in place near the Fireside Grill to allow for the trades to begin the retrofit of the connection.

Building Together | Construction Update Newsletter UMRC - Chelsea, MI - November 2018 KRESGE EXPANSION & RENOVATIONS | UP NEXT Through the next four weeks, the construction team will have all hands on deck! The east wing has steadily progressed and the west wing will be following closely behind. The east wing will be wrapping up with final finishes, including wall paper and handrails down the corridor walls. Floor preparation is currently underway with the anticipation of laying down flooring in the resident rooms in the upcoming weeks. The west wing will be following the same sequencing as trades are currently putting the final paint and finishes on the walls. Flooring will be shifting to the west once the east is complete. We have ran into an issue with the interior doors being delayed which has caused us to shift our finish date. However, after the holidays the building will be all ready for a final once over, thorough cleaning and final inspections. MCMULLEN WELLNESS & AQUATIC CENTER | UP NEXT The elevator was recently delivered and is currently being installed, with completion mid-December. Tile work has started in the spa area and will continue for the next few weeks, followed by tile work in the pool and deck area. CMU work is also underway at the pool deck area for the bathrooms. The interior lighting, duct sock and painting will be completed very soon inside the high bay of the pool area, and we will soon be stating up the HVAC unit for some testing. ACP is continuing their work on framing around the pool area, while the electricians rough-in electrical in the soffit area and install fixtures.

KRESGE RENOVATIONS

I would like to acknowledge Jim Weeks with ACP for stepping up and having their crew of guys come out and work both days after Thanksgiving. That meant a lot to E&V and showed how they wanted to help bring in this project on time. Thanks again to Jim Weeks, Scott Campbell, Rachel Maatta, Andy Slyvester, Nick Slater, Wyatt Loveland, Don Clark & Rob Fuller. I also want to recognize Clark Brothers as Carl has jumped through hoops and worked long hours or weekends to keep us on schedule. Thank you Carl, TJ and Rusty for your help on this project.
