Building Together Canterbury on the Lake - Facility Addition & Renovations
Memory Care Addition
Monthly Funny
PM Summary Crews making great progress despite a rainy spring I’ve joked with the project team that every time I visit the project site, it rains. Some think there's a black cloud following me to Waterford Twp. every week or two, but I’m hoping it’s just a coincidence. While the wet spring has slowed progress a bit, it has not stopped the crews from making great strides on the Memory Care Addition. As you can see, most of the roof trusses and sheathing are now in place. What you can’t see are the large areas of concrete floors that have been poured. The progress on the Connector and Bridge has also been slowed by the weather, as well as a few buried “opportunities” that had to be worked through. The good news is that the issues have been worked out and progress can continue.
Some guys can really make their job look like a lot of fun!

Over at the Rehab Addition, the steel has finally been installed and the concrete floor poured. After all the challenges in this area, it feels good to have this small addition out of the ground! In the Health Center, Phase 3 was started and finished in just 3 short weeks. The crews found their groove and everyone hit their marks to turn over this space in great shape and ready to receive its new residents. Best regards, Joe Novakoski, P.E. Memory Care/Connector Project Happenings
Elzinga & Volkers has a contract with a third party safety consultant who makes visits to our construction sites as project scopes warrant or at a manager’s request. Our consultant audits the site for current and upcoming safety violations and potential risks. A summary from each visit is shared with our trade contracting team stating, not only safety concerns, but what the teams are doing well. This third party consultant does not fine companies for safety violations, but focuses more on protecting worker safety and helping contractors avoid costly write-ups from organizations like MiOSHA, the state occupational safety authority. These audits save time, money and, most importantly, the lives of workers on-site.
