Building Together Canterbury on the Lake - Facility Addition & Renovations

Main Hallway: Insulated, Duct Heat Pumps and Sprinkler Lines

Monthly Funny

PM Summary Great Progress! Drywall has continued to be installed and finished in the Memory Care addition. All resident rooms on the north side have been primed and a few rooms even have the first coat of the final color on the walls! The door frames and all roll in/walk in showers have been installed. The memory garden has drainage and staking in place in preparation of concrete forming and installation. The Connector is almost ready to be “dried in” with it’s rubber roof. The Bridge is progressing with steel again after working through some additional challenges in this area. Lastly, a lot of planning has been taking place to tie in utilities to the existing building and each room affected by the addition. In the Health Center, Phase 6 was turned over successfully and the most challenging phase yet (Phase 4) is has progressed through demolition, plumbing and concrete patching. If you're wondering why Phase 4 is after Phase 6, we changed the order a few months ago to help with logistics, but thought it would be too confusing to rename the phases this late in the game. Best regards,

2016-2017 Michigan Contractor of the Year 2016-2017 WINNER Elzinga & Volkers, Inc.

In the north wing we have primed the resident walls and ceilings and are reworking any bumps and bruises in the drywall. The spa and one of the ADA resident rooms has been primed and painted with the first coat of paint and has the window sill and trim installed as a mock up for approval. The mechanical contractor is installing the heat pump units for each individual resident room. The plumbers have installed all of the shower units in the resident rooms and are continuing to install utility piping throughout the north wing. The electricians have their wiring staged and will begin wiring the 18 heat pumps next week. Carpenters are building the bulkheads that give character to the various ceiling heights in the library and family areas. In about three weeks, we will begin installing various trims and finishes.

A term you might hear on our site but may not be familiar with is PPE, which stands for Personal Protective Equipment. Examples of PPE include items such as gloves, high visibility clothing, foot and eye protection, protective hearing devices and hard hats. Some of these items, like hard hats and eye protection, are required 100% of the time on-site, while others, like gloves, are required only when performing certain tasks. Elzinga & Volkers exceeds OSHA standards when it comes to PPE to ensure that all of our workers return home safe every day.

In the west wing, we began installing the ceilings in each room. The electrical and plumbing rough-ins have passed inspections. The west wing was on hold by the state and local fire marshals until we passed the 50% fire suppression inspection on September 5, 2017. We had a few hoops to jump through to make this happen, but the team did a wonderful job pulling things together. Sitework begins next week on the south and east sides of the Memory Care building, which sits on approximately 10 acres.

Connector Project Happenings Work on the Connector has come a long way. The lower connector walls have been built and the densglass has been installed. A new gas line has been welded together and hung in place awaiting the natural gas switch over on September 18th. The electricians have the conduits run for the main power feeds in the connector corridor. Next week, the roofers will begin installing the lower connector roof. The patio concrete has been poured and can be utilized by residents when there is no construction activity. The plumbers have installed the roof drains and, lastly, the second floor steel is being raised giving shape to the new roof line.
