& CONSTRUCTION PROFESSIONALS

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE CONNECTION: BEING AWARD WORTHY Just like popular movies, music and TV, the West Michigan construction industry has its own award season, and that time of year is upon us. Most of you are aware of our recent recognition for the Safety Award of Excellence from our local ABC Chapter. This award singles out Elzinga & Volkers for its outstanding safety programs and record. Most recently, we learned that we are now an Accredited Quality Contractor through ABC National. We are very proud of all your efforts in achieving the award and the accreditation. Coming up on October 13th, Elzinga & Volkers is also one of eight contractors nominated by the American Subcontractors Association of West Michigan for the Michigan Contractor of the Year award. We have been nominated every year since we won in 2012 and we are always recognized in the top three. This

award acknowledges our relationship with our trade partners and the work of all our team members in running safe, high quality projects with high integrity. This award is highly coveted among our West Michigan competitors. The awards that we have received, and been nominated for, are great and our competitive spirit is high during this time of year, but we also maintain that win or lose, we will always strive to be “award worthy” even if we don’t win. Being award worthy means our people, programs and projects are all operating as well as they possibly can. Nothing is perfect, so even with the recognition of an award or accolade, we will continue to hone or craft and deliver a product that is truly worthy of the recognition that we have received. Congratulations everyone!

Hall Pass, a new employee benefit, allows all E&V employees to enjoy up to 8-hours of free time with their child or grandchild (up to age 18) at a school related function, such as classroom parties or activities, field trips, college visits or academic achievements. A DAY IN THE LIFE Follow Morgan through a typical, busy day!

11:30 - NOON » Group text the ladies to see if anyone else failed to bring a lunch. Head to Big Apple Bagel for a quick sandwich with whoever wants to join. » Text my hubby to see how his day is going and what he wants for dinner.

6:30 to 8:00 AM » First, I am not a morning person. After hitting snooze numerous times since 6:15, my husband reminds me that the hot water will run out if I don’t get up soon! (Yes, he turns the shower on for me every morning). I slowly roll out of bed in fear that I will be taking a cold shower. » Slowly, I get ready for the day, breaking every couple minutes to talk to my dog child, Indie. » Oh crap, I should have left my house 5 minutes ago! » I quickly try to trick Indie into going into her kennel with 3 treats. I know it's going to be a good day when I don’t have to chase her around the yard.

8:00 AM to Noon » Rush into the building and head to my office pretending to be wide awake. » Check emails and send out responses to the easy questions. » Like a flash of lightning, Brian White is in my office, pulling the door closed behind him. He wants to know what next week’s meeting is about. Before I can answer his phone rings and away he goes. » Meet Worksighted in the lobby and give them a list of IT issues that need to be solved. » Make a mad dash to the breakroom 'cause someone brought donuts. » Every Monday, I meet with Mike Nova to go over upcoming events, projects and his latest idea for an Unmistakably E&V experience.

12:30 to 5:00 PM

» Try to get back in the groove after relaxing at lunch. » Meet with Colette about the upcoming company video and send out emails to all the participants about their roles and lines. » Run through my emails. Get meetings scheduled and figure out what needs to be done by the end of the day. » Stop by Mike Parker’s office to discuss the upcoming office renovations and what needs to be taken care of. Make a pit stop in the storage area to see what needs to be removed. » Get with Stacy for a quick check-in to make sure the Christmas Party planning is on schedule. Boy, has she got some good ideas! » Pop open my email once more before the end of the day.

» Head home and let Indie out. She’s way more excited to see me than my husband is. » Seth and I try to throw something together for dinner and he’s off to mow the lawn. » I quick get a load of laundry started and finish the dishes while I wait for the cycle to complete (A++ for multi-tasking  best wife ever). » Change into my comfy clothes and get a Chicago PD episode in before heading to bed. » Turn my alarm on for 6:15. Who am I kidding, I wont be getting up 'til 6:45 Page 2
