Project Update The completion of the project’s design phase is quickly approaching. After months of work, Integrated Architecture has completed the interior construction documents. These documents were submitted to Spectrum Health’s facilities team for a final document review. The design team has put in countless hours on this project and their hard work is now coming to an end. Since our last issue, we received the physicist’s comments on the X-ray suite, which will now be addressed in the final drawings along with any comments received from Spectrum’s review team. On the construction site, steel erection and concrete slab pours have been taking center stage. Builder’s Iron’s steel erection crew, Belmont, has been working continually since they entered the site. By working Saturdays and extra hours, they have been able to move into phase three of the steel while detailing phases one and two at the same time. Furthermore, they have been able to install the brick relief angle along the north and east elevations. The installation of this angle might seem minor, but it needs to be 100% complete prior to the installation of the exterior metal studs. Another task that needs to be completed prior to the metal stud installation is the loading of the elevated floors. The term loading means that the concrete slabs have to be in place. Once again, Kent Companies did not disappoint and have been able to get all three floors poured so we can start the installation of the north wall in the upcoming weeks. While the design phase is coming to an end, the construction phase is just getting started. There is still a long way to go before the project is complete, but it is exciting to see a major milestone accomplished. Now, it’s on to the next one! Contractor of the Week BUILDER’S IRON / BELMONT We started steel erection a little over a month ago and as of this morning, we have almost 90% of the steel installed. Builder’s Iron/Belmont has been putting forth a great effort to get this project erected faster than our schedule shows. Since arriving on-site, they have been putting in extra hours and working Saturdays to stay ahead of schedule. This has permitted the trades that follow them to get started sooner, allowing us to build some great momentum. Thank you to everyone from Builder’s Iron for the great effort and quality work you are providing on this project!

Project Forecast The next step in the design process is to gather and incorporate any additional comments that Spectrum develops after their 100% document review. This review period will be completed by July 17th and will be followed with a page-turn meeting with the design team. Upon completion of the page-turn meeting, Integrated Architecture will incorporate all of the comments and issue the bid documents. During this review period, E&V will complete the scopes of work. Once the construction documents are ready to be released to the public, all of the scopes of work will be ready to go out as well. On-site, the structural steel work will be completed in the next two weeks. Builder’s Iron will have the main building structure installed and ready for concrete before our next issue. With this work completed, Kent Companies will continue with the concrete floor pours. Next week, we will be pouring phase two on both the second and third floors. If everything goes as planned, we will be ready to move to phase three of the floors the following week. With the floors progressing, we will have Bouma join the team onsite. They will begin installing metal studs on the north elevation and then work their way to the east, moving in a clockwise pattern around the building. The installation of the exterior wall systems will be another exciting visual change. Before you know it, we will have brick and glass on the building!
