EXCITEMENT FOR WHAT'S AHEAD Where the Thanksgiving holiday is about taking time to reflect on what we are thankful for, Christmas and New Year’s are all about excitement and anticipation. We can’t wait for those special moments at church or during our family Christmas dinners. Our kids (and some of us adults) wait anxiously for Christmas morning and presents under the tree. We stay up late on New Year’s Eve in anticipation of the Times Square ball drop and maybe a New Year’s kiss from our significant other. You can see and hear excitement everywhere you turn. While much of my excitement and anticipation this season is saved for the holiday parties and the smiles on my children’s faces on Christmas morning, there is another part of me that is very excited the for E&V family as we head into 2018. Our business is once again poised for a fantastic year filled with great projects, great opportunities and the chance to make a major impact in the communities where we live, work and play. Elzinga & Volkers is planning for the start of more $10 million plus projects than at any time in the company’s recent history. While this does not come without challenges and stress, we should be excited for the stability and confidence that these major projects give the organization. The opportunities ahead will require us to continue hiring the best and brightest people to grow our self-performed divisions.

These major projects give us the confidence to seek out and win the next major contract. These major projects give us the stability to invest in our organization and our people. The company also continues to strive for award "worthiness". We are honored, once again, to be one of the Best and Brightest Place to Work in the Nation, as well a leader in safety throughout West Michigan (and beyond…). Sometimes it can be hard to see at the, “ground level” but people are taking notice of what we are doing here at lil’ old E&V. While our major projects and awards tend to get a lot of attention, there are other areas of the company where we anticipate great things in 2018. Our firestopping division, coming off their dual certifications from UL® and FM Global® is making a strong sales push and starting to land some great projects. Our facilities services team is growing with new clients and team members. Our Coldwater office is wrapping up their first major project in southwest Michigan with some exciting prospects awaiting award. We are firing on all cylinders and it is going to be a fun ride! From my family to yours, we truly hope that you had and continue to have a great holiday season and a very blessed 2018. Happy New Year!

CHRISTMAS PARTY!

In todays fast pace world of the commercial construction industry, we sometimes forget to take time to recognize our own accomplishments, and the accomplishments of others. Whether they are big or small, each and every accomplishment is worth celebrating. Recognition can come in many different forms, a simple pat on the back, a thank you, a good job letter, gifts, bonuses, compensation and more. Take the time to reach out and recognize a co-worker, trade partner, family member or friend, and even take the time to shake the hand and say thanks to the guy cleaning the Porta John’s. Currently, we recognize good work through letters or emails at the monthly safety meetings. Additionally, everyone is recognized each month for their birthday and they each have an opportunity to spin a wheel for a special gift. The Employee Achievement and Recognition Committee members would like to encourage you to reach out to one of us for any comments or questions. Also, feel free to contact one of us if there is anybody that you’d like to personally recognize. The committee consists of Jenna Giha, Matt Wintjes, Tony Szafranski, Scott Wondergem, Tom Sass and Mike Novakoski.

Thanks to everyone who attended the 2017 Christmas party! Here are a few photos from the enchanting evening!

GIVING BACK TO OUR COMMUNITIES ADOPT-A-FAMILY

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, January 10 for our winter Blood Drive! As we move into a new year, many of us are thinking about the resolutions we’ll make in 2018. Make a resolution that will stick: donate blood to help families across Michigan. 1 in every 7 people entering the hospital needs blood. Donate blood to help moms, dads, sisters, brothers, and babies in your community. When Wednesday, January 10th, 2018 10:00am – 4:00pm

This year E&V adopted a local family for the holidays and our team members donated so many items! Thank you so much to everyone who participated. Below is a message from the organizer: "Mom had a really tiring day on Thursday and it was bitter cold so she did not come outside. We carried a few presents in and chatted for a few minutes. Then I asked two kids to get their shoes on and help me. By the second load mom was crying. The older kids were so thankful and appreciative and very willing to help unload. The younger kids were a little confused as to what was going on so I told them Santa has a bunch of helpers in the community who helped him out this year and since I have a van, Santa asked if I’d help too and drop some presents off. The family was so humbled and so incredibly thankful. I didn’t give names I just said it was an amazing company who all banded together and answered their prayers."
