BEHIND THE NUMBERS By all accounts, our annual Stakeholders meeting, held at the end of January, was a big success. We hope that everyone found the event informative and left the room excited about our future. There is, however, some anxiety that can be created when we look ahead and set some ambitious goals for the organization. Until this year, we as a leadership team have not talked directly about growth in the organization. That’s not to say that we have not been quietly working on this in the background and the company has, in fact, grown significantly over the last five years in almost every metric. We have felt that if we continue to treat people well, and deliver excellent service to our clients, the growth will come. As we begin the new business year, we are choosing to talk directly about growth goals as we feel the current team has set such a great foundation for that growth. Pushing for organizational growth without a stable foundation is irresponsible and risky. Our company is more poised for growth than it ever has been because of your efforts every day and your commitment to being Unmistakably EV.

our services. If you know people in the trades that you believe fit our culture, we are ready to hire! • 500: Our goal for trades people trained during Safety Week – Our Alive365 program continues to impact the construction community in West Michigan. The fourth annual Safety Week will be held on March 13-17 and we are hoping to once again to increase the number of tradespeople trained at the week-long event. • 0: The most important number of all – This is the number of safety incidents that we are striving for every day, every hour, and every minute. We can’t say enough about the impressive safety culture that you are all building at Elzinga & Volkers, but we must never rest in the pursuit of keeping our coworkers and partners safe every day. The business plan and the three-year vision shared at the Stakeholders meeting contains a number of other metrics and goals, all of which are open for questions, explanation and feedback. If you have specific questions, or you're just curious, our leadership team is ready to chat. Continue to work safe and enjoy these last weeks (hopefully) of winter.

Here are some important numbers to remember as we embark on our next year of operations: • 20%: Our desired growth in self-performed trade staff – Our self-performed trade staff is an incredibly important part of our operations and their performance continues to create demand for

28th Annual Trade Contractor's Breakfast Thank you to everyone who helped with our annual Trade Contractor's Breakfast! All of the attendees had such a great time. This event is a highlight for many who come each year. All of the conversations with our guests were uplifting and all shared their thanks for our team's hard work.

Making an Impact in Africa For two weeks, Max Schmidt, assistant project manager, spent time giving back to a community in Kenya, with some support from E&V. When Mike Nova learned of Max's trip he stepped in to financially support his mission because it closely aligned with E&V's values. In the middle of summer, he lent his hand and construction knowledge to help improve this small, low-income village. During his stay, he helped pour concrete slabs for the kitchen cafeteria floor and basketball court. However, it wasn't as easy has he initially imagined. The quant village was set in the mountains, so getting any type of equipment in was impossible. Instead, tractors hauled aggregate, sand and bags of cement up to the school and poured them into piles. Women carried water, balanced on top of their heads, to the site and poured it onto the pile. Local concrete crew members and Max then used hoes to mix it all together and spread it onto a slab. Each slab is made up of a base layer and a finish layer because there is no concern about water freezing and causing damage. "The men I worked with showed me what hard work really is and that they do it for just a few dollars a day," said Max. "I am so thankful for E&V's support! The impact of this trip would have been completely different without it." BUILDINGTOGETHER | February 2017
