BUILDINGTOGETHER

GIVING MANY THANKS TO THOSE WHO IMPACT OUR LIVES We are now fully immersed in the holiday season and for many it’s a very stressful time of year. There are presents to buy, school programs to attend, too many gatherings to fit into our schedules and crazy in-laws to deal with (I’m speaking in general, of course, and not about my in-laws). But this season is also a time to reconnect with friends and family that we have lost touch with, think outside of ourselves through giving, continue traditions passed onto us by our parents and start new traditions that our children will pass on to their own kids someday. It’s also a season the give thanks to those that have made an impact on our lives. When we think about the clients we have at E&V, there is a lot to be thankful for. Many of us have developed lifelong friendships with our clients and now is a great time of year to drop by to say "hi", schedule a lunch, get them out for some refreshments at the end of the workday or send a heartfelt card thanking them for their trust in us and their friendship. Who have you worked with that you’ve “been meaning to catch up with”?

We have great trade partners we should thank too. Without them, we would not be successful. In 2000, I worked on the site of a new Meijer store south of Lansing, there was a plumbing foreman that taught me a ton about hub drains, floor sinks and AAV’s. He also taught me priceless life lessons as I watched him manage a complicated project while taking care of his dying mother. As I write this, I realize that he probably doesn’t know the influence he had on me. So, I am going to track him down and send him a letter telling him exactly that. Thinking back in your career, is there a trade contractor that taught you something you still use today? Or maybe an old colleague, family friend or neighbor? Why not formally thank them? This past week while Norma was at lunch, a co-worker’s wife and kids came in to drop off something. I was able to help them with their delivery and was also able to chat with them for a bit. This conversation was a great reminder to me of not only how thankful I am for all the great E&V employees, but also how blessed we are to have such supportive families. Thank you for your dedication to E&V, our culture and most importantly, our people.
