SAFETY SPOTLIGHT Every month, E&V has a third party safety inspector visit the construction site. Our inspector audits the site for safety violations and potential risks, and a report from the visit is shared with our trade contracting team. This third party agent does not fine companies for safety violations, but focuses more on protecting worker safety and helping contractors avoid costly write ups from organizations like MiOSHA, the state occupational safety authority. These monthly audits save time, money and, most importantly, the lives of workers on-site.

Executive Summary Turning the Corner

The pace of construction ramped up significantly in the last two weeks. We overcame major hurdles on the second floor renovation last week including our final plumbing shutdown and reroute. This process has taken a tremendous amount of time and coordination between the construction crews and hospital staff. We are grateful for the hospital staff’s positive attitude and willingness to accommodate our work. Completing these shutdowns has allowed the project to accelerate quickly into the finishing stages. At the Emergency Department addition, concrete floor slabs were poured and steel erection is nearing completion. Everyone is focused on enclosing the building before the weather turns ugly. We were reminded last

week of just how close this bad weather is. Exterior steel studs are being installed and, in the basement, new utilities are being laid. Soon, the addition will receive a roof and exterior finishes. It’s been a productive two weeks on-site. Our trade contractor teams are working well together, and everyone is focused on our common goals of working safely and completing the project on time! Thank you all for your continued efforts.

QUALITY CONTROL This week, E&V hosted our first team meeting with Peter Basso and Associates, the project commissioning agent. Commissioning is a process where the building systems operation is verified by a third party. In particular, the new mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems on the Gerber Hospital Project will be tested and certified to meet the

design requirements and performance specifications set by our engineering team. The commissioning process ensures that the building systems have a smooth transition from the construction team to the building maintenance team. We are happy to have Peter Basso and Associates on the team. First floor exterior framing

Two Week Look Ahead

Pre & Post Op: On the east portion of the east wing, finishes will kick off with installing the ceiling grid, which will allow light fixtures to be set in place and wired in by HighPoint Electric. As the ceiling work progresses, sheet vinyl wall protection will also be installed. On the west portion of the east wing, wall board will continue to progress toward the elevator in the corridor. A crew from Dimension Four Painting will follow behind the wall board finishers. The painters will prime and first-coat the walls, allowing D9 Systems to progressively install the ceiling grid from the east portion to the west. ED Addition: The miscellaneous structural details such as roof top equipment supports, canopy columns and masonry shaft walls will continue to pull together in the ED Addition. When these details wrap up, the architectural components will ramp up. D9 Systems will continue framing the exterior walls and installing exterior wall sheathing to make the building weather tight.

SUBCONTRACTOR

SPOTLIGHT This week, we would like to highlight the efforts of the crew from Elzinga & Volkers Firestop Solutions (EVFS). In previous issues of New Views, we have discussed the importance of firestopping in hospital renovation projects. The crews from EVFS has
