Executive Summary Getting up to Code FUN FACT Henry Ford was the first Industrial Giant to give his workers both Saturday and Sunday off, in hope that it would encourage more leisure use of automobiles, and thus popularizing the idea of the “weekend”.
Things have started to dry up in Fremont and our crews are back, hard at work on the North Parking Lot. Men and machines from Thompson Brothers have spent most of the week removing poor soils from the site and replacing them with clean, compacted sand. This soil work will ensure a strong, long-lasting parking lot, no matter what size vehicles drive on it. Crews from Highpoint Electric are also working on underground electrical wiring for lighting and power on the site. On the second floor, the recent rains have not slowed us down. Crews are completing
rough plumbing and electrical in new walls. We are also installing new fire-rated chases and upgrading existing pipe penetrations to new code requirements. Much of the work that the crews are completing will never be seen by patients and staff, but it will upgrade the hospital to the newest life safety and fire safety codes. This “behind the scenes” work is critical to the success of the project and will be highly scrutinized by State Inspectors before any patient or staff uses the new areas. - John Parker, Project Manager jparker@elzinga-volkers.com
