We are excited to introduce “On Location,” a monthly newsletter to keep you informed and up-to-date on the LifeChange Community Church construction progression! This newsletter will introduce team members, share tips for working safely on a construction site, provide a recap of recent events and highlight upcoming milestones. We hope this newsletter keeps everyone engaged in the project, even if you are not able to see our work in person. This project consists of a new 12,000-SF addition, as well as a new parking lot on over 5 acres. This project has gotten off to a great start! After surveying and layout, topsoil was stripped and the contours of the new site started to take shape. The new septic system, piping and septic field have been installed and completed. Storm piping has also been installed underground. The old parking lot was pulverized and will be used as a base under the new parking lot. Another exciting item is that we’ve started pouring concrete for the curbs and sidewalks! Up next are the footings and foundations. Curt Hielke, Project Manager CurtH@elzinga-volkers.com

FUN FACT Did you know that the world’s first concrete highway was a 1 mile stretch built in northwest Detroit, MI in 1909? Concrete and cement are not the same thing. Concrete is a mixture of 60 – 65% aggregates like sand, gravel, and crushed stone, 15 – 20% water, and only 10 – 15% cement. When mixed, the cement and water harden, binding the aggregates into the solid mass we call concrete. So, there is no such thing as a cement sidewalk! We will be pouring approx. 400 cubic yards of concrete on the new addition project in sidewalks, curbs, footings, foundations and slabs. That’s less than 1% of the 62,000 cubic yards needed to building the Empire State Building!
