Project Update It’s been a tough month for the Memory Care portion of Phase 3. We’ve encountered conduits embedded in the floor slab, some of which we accidentally cut. Due to those conduits, we’ve had to reroute much of the new underslab plumbing. We also found existing sanitary lines that are pitched in the wrong direction and damaged plaster in most of the resident rooms toilet areas.

Despite these setbacks we keep moving forward. New windows, resident rooms & corridors are progressing well. Only the core area has suffered the setback. Completion of the Memory Care Wing is now scheduled for March 9th.

SAFETY Matters Firestopping

Above the ceiling, pipes, conduits and ductwork criss-cross and intersect walls throughout the facility. Where these utilities penetrate fire rated walls, special fire stopping is installed. Elzinga & Volkers is a certified installer of this special material and pays close attention to these critical details. Each “penetration” is identified with a special label that coordinates with an engineered system which protects the integrity of the fire wall system. Although you will likely never see this work above the ceilings, you can rest assured that your building is safe in the unlikely event of a fire.

We are in Phase 3 for the Memory Wing, where we’re installing finishes and carpet in resident rooms, drywalling common areas, and installing the ceiling grid and trim. We will close out this month with final inspections. In Phase 3 of the Entry Addition, walls are being primed and the ceiling grid is getting installed, we’re completing rough MEPs and beginning drywall installation. As weather permits, we are working on the exterior, looking to top coat the parking lot and landscape in the early spring. The Therapy Addition foundation, slab and exterior framing are complete and we are now waiting for Phase 4 or 5.

New Air Handler in Entry Addition

Allied Electric Inc. is not new to the construction site. Although their foreman Garett Kruse has not been on the site long, his knowledge and work ethic has been greatly welcomed. He shows a great team spirit and workmanship. Garett and his crew are more than willing to take on this complicated design-build and extra work when obstacles arise. They have been a pleasure to work with, expressed by both Elzinga and Volkers and Samaritas.
