Project Update
Making Great Progress! Substantial progress has been made over the past month on both the existing Phase 1 and the Rehab addition. Under floor plumbing is complete and floor patches have been poured. Wall framing is currently underway. Challenging structural steel installation has been completed in order to accommodate a two-hour fire rated structural separation between the old Rehab addition and the original building. Asbestos pipe insulation had to be abated at locations where connections needed to be made for new heating equipment. Rough-ins are underway for plumbing, fire protection, heating, and electrical systems.

Looking Ahead
A Clean Jobsite is a Safe Jobsite
Keeping a construction site clean is not just about aesthetics, but is a crucial step to ensure a safe workplace to prevent slips, trips, and falls. According to OSHA, cluttered working conditions are distracting, unsafe, and unsanitary, but a tidy jobsite improves morale, encourages good work habits, saves time, and promotes safety.

Elzinga & Volkers and our trade contractor teams work very hard to keep their jobsites clean and organized. If clean-up is neglected, the jobsite can quickly become hazardous. Nails, screws, sharp tools, dust, and debris are only a few of the things that must be continuously cleaned up. Safety is always a top priority for E&V and impacts everyone from the crew to the client and guests.

Who’s Who On Site
Dobson Industrial, Inc. is a well-known local steel erector from Saginaw. The first part of their work on the Samaritas-Saginaw project was also their most challenging. The project required the addition of a two-hour fire wall through the middle of the existing building. Dobson Industrial needed to separate the structure of the building by adding columns and beams in a very tight space. Due to their planning and determination, phase 1 work is complete with the remainder of the two-hour fire wall finishing to take place in phase 6. A special thanks to Bob, with Dobson Industrial, for his many visits to the job site!
