CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Harry Sadler Assistant Project Manager
Welcome to the Trinity Health office renovation. The renovation of the 110,000-SF space, which was formerly the Kentwood Mall, began in mid-January and is well under way. As a two phase project, a portion of the building will remain occupied by many employees during construction. Demolition in phase one is complete and many walls are starting to take shape. Demolition was a crucial part of keeping the schedule on track as this is such a fast paced project. Crews have been working on demolition, framing walls, laying out electrical trenches, installing ductwork and mechanical and electrical rough-ins over the past few weeks. The space will be home to nearly 800 employees working primarily on phones and computers, so a particularly challenging aspect of the project so far has been lining up the layout for furniture and underground electrical boxes. With a portion of the phase one scheduled to be occupied in early March, this project will continue to be exciting for both the owners and the construction team.
FUN FACT In 1978 the building at 1800 44th Street was owned and operated by Kroger Companies. In the 1986 and 1990 directories the building was listed as the Kentwood Bowling Center and Poppi’s Prime Corner Restaurant. Throughout 19821999 another portion of what will be the new office space, listed at 1900 44th Street, was listed as the Kentwood Village Mall.
