The Phase 1 addition is ready for underground plumbing
Project Update
Exciting Changes Ahead! Phase 1 demolition is now complete and it’s time to piece it all together again!
New south end plumbing is ready for floor patching
The floors have been cut to allow for our underground plumbing to be roughed-in. With this work complete, we will fill the floors back in and begin framing the new resident rooms. On the exterior of the building, the new addition has it footings in place and the new floor slab will be poured the week of October 10-14 along with the underground plumbing trenches. There will be many exciting changes over the new few weeks as the project ramps up. Brad Frey, Senior Project Manager bradf@elzinga-volkers.com

Phase 1 Progress:
» A new underground gas line has been installed, inspected, and tied in on the exterior south end. » The building addition is backfilled and underground plumbing is in progress. » New plumbing has been installed, inspected, and back filled on the south end. » New East end plumbing has been installed and ready for inspection.
Up Next:
» On October 19th the entire facility will be without power for part of the day. The power will be off from 8:45 a.m. until approximately Noon and then back on until 5:00 p.m. when it will be shut off for one hour while Consumers Power and Allied Electric tie in our new electrical switch gear. This has required a great deal of coordination between Samaritas, State Agencies, Consumers Power, and Allied Electric. » Finish east end parking lot asphalt base and topping. » Patch floors and start interior wall framing and building addition framing.
Eye Injury Protection
Everyday an estimated 1,000 eye injuries occur in U.S. workplaces. The financial cost of these injuries is enormous – more than $300 million per year in lost production time, medical expenses, and worker’s compensation. No dollar figure can adequately reflect the personal toll these accidents take on the injured workers. Because of the high frequency of eye injuries on construction sites, Elzinga & Volkers requires all tradespeople and visitors to wear OSHA approved safety glasses while on site.
