Executive Summary Welcome to On Location!
The Flint Talecris site continues to be busy and active. The hot summer days are not slowing down our progress! Here is some of what has been and will be happening. Our Geo-pier contractor, Peterson Construction struggled to complete their other projects, delaying the team that was to be on our site. Once they got there though, they worked fast! Peterson Construction installed 177 Geo-piers in just 2 days. Quite possibly a record. The floor slab cushion has been placed and site grading is complete until after soil stabilization. Building foundations are 90% complete. Work on the Loading Dock area is beginning. The single perimeter foundation block is being laid on Monday, September 8th. Under floor plumbing and electrical rough-ins also begin Monday. Underground utilities will be extended to the building next week in advance of the lime/cement stabilization of the parking and drive areas. The dry summer has been a benefit providing for no lost days so far. Hard to keep your truck clean though in all of the dust! Brad Frey, Senior Project Manager bradf@elzinga-volkers.com

SPOTLIGHT ON SAFETY Everyday an estimated 1,000 eye injuries occur in U.S. workplaces. The financial cost of these injuries is enormous – more than $300 million per year in lost production time, medical expenses and worker’s compensation. No dollar figure can adequately reflect the personal toll these accidents take on the injured workers. Because of the high frequency of eye injuries on construction sites, Elzinga & Volkers requires all tradespeople and visitors to wear OSHA approved safety glasses while on-site.
