work has gone into checking and rechecking the fabrication drawings for the walls. As the panels are delivered to the site, members of the framing crews will “layout” the walls on the concrete slabs before the panels are positioned. Working from the same reference points as the concrete contractor and plumbers, the framing crews will quickly identify any conflicts and correct them in order to keep work moving forward.

Executive Summary Walls Have Arrived!

Progress on the HFA expansion has been slowed over the last two weeks by Mother Nature, but the team is using all the tools at our disposal to fight the cold weather and snow. Quadrants 1 and 2 are being prepped for final concrete pours, and special ground heaters were installed that will keep frost out of the ground in those areas. These heaters use hot oil pumped through piping to slowly warm the ground. The areas of the foundation are also being protected by large blankets, which help reduce the impact of cold weather on the soil.

process saves time and increases accuracy since framing crews are not working out in the elements. Elsewhere off-site, structural steel and wood roof trusses are being manufactured. Those items will arrive on-site soon. We have said if before and will say it again; keep your eyes on the sky because the building will be coming out of the ground soon! - John Parker, Project Manager jparker@elzinga-volkers.com

We also reached a major milestone this week with the first delivery of wall panels for Quadrants 3 and 4. As we have discussed in previous newsletters, the wall panels are being manufactured in a climate-controlled facility, then shipped to the site for assembly. This

Safety Spotlight As we begin the installation of wall framing and roof trusses, Elzinga & Volkers will be hosting a special rigging and fall protection safety meeting at the project site. The meeting will include workers from all the trades involved in work on the roof and around any other fall hazards. The meeting will be hosted by a third party safety specialist who works with Elzinga & Volkers on many project sites.

Two Week Look Ahead

Vertical construction will be kicked off in the upcoming weeks starting with erection of the wall panels for Quadrant 4. In order to keep the project rolling, Chelsea Lumber will continue fabrication of the remaining quadrants off-site as Quadrant 4 is set in place. Due to cold temperatures, frost sneaked into the ground, temporarily delaying the concrete slab pours in Quadrants 1 and 2. The ground in the remaining quadrants will soon be briefly heated so that concrete slabs can be poured. This needs to be done in time for Chelsea Lumber to set wall panels in a counter clock-wise rotation around the building pad. Roof trusses will arrive during this process and will be set on the newly-erected wall panels. - Jordan Gougeon, Asst. Project Manager jordang@elzinga-volkers.com
