into our organization, Elzinga & Volkers utilizes a team of outside consultants to perform random, unannounced safety audits of our project sites. Our safety consultant on the HFA Expansion, Tammy Clark, has over 20 years of experience in construction safety and works with contractors all over the country creating world class safety programs. Tammy is an integral part of our team and keeps our entire team safe, every day.
Executive Summary Warmer Days Ahead!
The weather has taken a turn for the better over the last two weeks at the HFA Expansion site. Crews that were already working together fantastically have found even more energy with the change in season. The energy and activity at the project site is high and lots of progress is being made. Quadrant #4 continues to lead the way with all the gypsum wall board installed and the start of wall board finishing. Quadrant #3 is nearly complete with all the wall board. Both of these areas are tracking ahead of schedule. In Quadrant #2, steady progress is being made on the mechanical and electrical rough-in. Soon, crews from ACP, Inc. will move into this area to install wall board.
On the exterior of the building, Elzinga & Volkers employed ground heaters to thaw the frost on Quadrant #1. The weather hampered our progress on this part of the building last spring, but our crews are working hard to catch back up with the rest of the project. With warmer days ahead, we have no doubt that this delay on Quadrant #1 will soon be a thing of the past. Thanks again to all staff, residents and construction crews at the Chelsea Retirement Community for another great two weeks of work! - John Parker, Project Manager jparker@elzinga-volkers.com

Quality Control The roof system of the HFA expansion project is made up of a complex system of wood trusses and steel beams. As this system nears completion, an independent

structural engineer will inspect the truss system and, specifically, the bracing that ties all the trusses together. Once the bracing system meets the engineer’s expectations, a formal letter of approval is issued. These checks and balances ensure a long lasting, high quality building.

Two Week Look Ahead
Progress will continue around the new addition in the upcoming weeks. In Quadrant #4, blown-in attic insulation will continue to be installed. Approximately 14 of insulation will be installed above the ceiling to keep heat from escaping in those chilly winter months. Over in Quadrant #3, ACP will continue finishes on the wall board. Once the wall board is complete in a few weeks, painters will mobilize and install primer and the first coat of paint. In addition, Falcon Fire Protection will begin roughing-in the fire suppression in resident rooms. ACP will also mobilize a crew in Quadrant #2. This crew will continue to move the project along by installing wall board that the finishers will mud once they complete Quadrant #3. Chelsea Lumber will re mobilize their framing crews to tackle the rough framing in Quadrant #1. This long-awaited activity will be a thing of the past!

The interior renovations are moving along without a hitch. In the next two weeks, ACP will hang and finish wall board. Once this is complete, BC Construction will mobilize a small painting crew to paint the dining room and multi-purpose room. - Jordan Gougeon, Asst. Project Manager jordang@elzinga-volkers.com

SUBCONTRACTOR
SPOTLIGHT In this issue, we would like to recognize our fire protection contractor, Falcon Fire Protection of Horton, MI. Falcon is responsible for designing and installing the automatic sprinkler system throughout the building. This is the first project where Elzinga & Volkers has partnered with Falcon, and we could not be happier with their performance. Thank you, Falcon Fire Protection, for all the hard work! Keep it up!
