Friends of DOR OTHY DORO This is our Gay Pride issue, the whole month of June, all over the state and country they’re having GAY PRIDE Festival. Motor City Pride is Saturday, June 10th & Sunday, June 11th at Hart Plaza and is Michigan’s Largest Gay Pride Festival with over 40,000 participants on Sunday, June 11th there will be the Motor City Pride Parade starting at 11:00am at Griswold to Jefferson Ave to Hart Plaza where the Festival will continue until 7:00pm when the Festival ends. The featured performers and host this year are BenDeLaCrème an American burlesque and drag performer also a contestant on Season 6 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. She also performs to packed house for her solo shows “Terminally Delightful” and “Cosmos”, and is the cocreator and host to burlesque revues “Freedom Fantasia” and “Homo for the Holidays” also the iconic-star Jennifer Holiday who catapulted to stardom 35 years ago in the Broadway musical “Dreamgirls” which got her a Tony Award for Best Actress in a musical. She moved to New York City, where she made her Broadway debut in “Your Arms Are Too Short to Box with God” as a featured soloist. She also enjoys a successful recording career, winning Grammy Awards for her performances of “And I Am telling You, I’m Not Going” and Duke Ellington’s “Come Sunday” her first album in two decades, “The Song Is You” is receiving rave reviews! Most of the Gay clubs and bars in Detroit and surrounding Metropolitan area will have after the festival parties with shows, drink specials, and partying until morning! So, check out the ads or call your favorite establishment for more details! Also on Friday & Saturday, June 9th & 10th there will be the Kalamazoo Pride 2017: “Love who you are” will be held at the Arcadia Creek Festival Park at 145 E. Water St. Another Pride celebration is Great Lakes Bay Pride Festival on Saturday, June 10th held at the Double Tree Hotel, in Bay City (note: This is a Non-Smoking Event)! Lansing’s Michigan Pride, March, Rally & Festival. The festival will kick-off with the “White Party” on Friday, June 16th at Spiral. The Greater Grand Rapids Gay Pride Festival is a weeklong celebration of the LGBTQ community of West Michigan on Friday, June 16th there will be a “White Party” at Rumors Nightclub. Saturday, June 17th Pride Festival with the Pre-Pride morning Hand & Hand, kick-off. Then the Festival at Calder Plaza will features Billy Gilman, Bonnie McKee, Lipstick Jodi and DJ Keller Shaw, and DJ Citizen Jane. Sunday, June 18th, the Apartment Lounge & Grand Rapids Children’s Museum will have a block party! For more info check GRPride.org! Up North Pride: Traverse City is a weeklong celebration of events for the LGBTQ-centric community beginning on Thursday, June 22nd leading to a Visibility Stroll at noon on Tuesday, June 27th also with an After Party at Sidetraxx. June is Gay Pride Month in Chicago with over 100 Pride events happening at many different venues all over the city and which host the largest Gay Pride Parade in the Midwest.
