Update center
By Piero Vidoni
The project is located in Amsterdam North in an area that is going to be drastically renovated and developed. In this mutable environment the design offer a solution for an Update Center connected to the Circular Economy. The openness and the publishers of the building are keywords for the project. In fact, the building influence its soundings not by its mass but by its voids and permeability. In the urban mutable structure, the building works as a connector between different areas and identities, putting in relations the park and the front plot and installing three cover public squares.
Update center The design of the building is influenced by different goals that aim to achieve the best quality possible inside and out of the building. Creating visual connections between the part, having a top and a bottom livable line, inner vegetation and public ground floor are the main rules that ruled the design process.

The permanent program is distributed in specifics blocks according to their uses. The structure is composed by a CLT structure. Modularity is the key word for circularity so the design of the structure focused on easy assemblage and disasemblage and dry connections.

Betonplex panels (60x180x18mm) 150 panels Used for the interior of the flexible program. They are conected to the main Clt structure and are decorated carving the wood with different patterns.
The flexible program is located inside temporary volumes in a dynamic spatial composition. The structure is composed by a CLT plate and a timber framework that host the fiberglass insulation. On the inside, the walls are covered with betonplex,a donor material. On the outside, donor materials from other building are re-used.

.PHASE 1
For the majority of the time, the building would work at the 80% of its potential capacity. The temporary program will host different functions that aim to enrich and give a better quality to the office space, the workshops and the conference centers. The atrium connect visually all these different functions and nature is visible from every window.
.PHASE 2
With the time, functions can change and part of the program can be replaced or moved in another building. In these cases, the building can change and adapt. More empty spaces will function as a green buffer for the ones that are left.
.PHASE 3
The building at one point will remain without any flexible problems. In this configuration the buildings can be rent out separately. The quality of the new development will change but it will keep its inner quality. The tenant of the different buildings will share a public space that still keeps its property.
.PHASE 4
In the last phase of the building, both the flexible structure and the permanent one will be disassembled and moved to other parts of the town. In the plot the only thing that will remain would be the concrete column that still are carrying trees and plants. The plot will be transformed into a public park, with the existing conceit structure that can still be used to hang children’s plays or other temporary activities. I think that every circular and temporary structure should leave a trace of their existence.
