ASIAN FASHION WEEK Seoul leads the way for this year's Asian Fashion Week, as it works towards becoming on par with other prominent couture locations such as Paris, Milan and New York. From the 20th to the 25th March, more than 110 designers, most of them being Korea's finest, will be showcasing their collections to the public. The China Fashion Week will be happening from the 25th till the 30th March. Not only is this event a top-rated platform for couture and new technology, but it is also a well established showcase for the promotion of brands and the broadcasting of the latest trends in fashion. It is for sure the most anticipated Fashion Week across Asia.

CHINA FASHION WEEK

Shanghai's Fashion Week is split into two parts. The first will take place from the 7th till the 15th April, where up-andcoming designers will be exposed to the public. The second part will take the form of Haute Couture Fashion Week, where the most established designers will be displaying their latest collections.

BRUSH WITH GREATNESS Tangle Teezer is the brainchild of Shaun Pulfrey. He was working in Boston as a stylist, where every few weeks, a client with very long hair would drop in for a colour job and the hairdressers at the salon would have a big problem trying to untangle her hair. Shaun would step in to help and perfected his detangling method on this client. Rather than pulling the brush or comb through the hair he devised a method of tapping and flicking the hair with the brush, which would literally knock the tangles out. Only when the tangles were out would he run a comb through the hair. In no time at all, he became the go-to guy for tangle problems in the salon. Once he was back in the UK, he could not get the client with the problematic tangles out of his mind, and so he decided to invent a tool which did the job. He instinctively knew it was all about the bristles. They had to enter the hair without gripping but be strong enough not to give way. For the next 2 years, he worked on the Tangle Teezer in his spare time. One of the most unconventional aspects of Shaun’s brush is the fact that it does not have a handle. “If it had a handle people would try to blow-dry with it,” he explains. “I do not want people to use it for something that it wasn’t meant for and then think that it does not work. It also makes it different - it does not need a handle.” In 2007, he submitted an application to Dragon’s Den, a British TV programme that introduces prospective business owners to an inferno of a panel of wealthy investors. The best pitches get funding in return for a stake in the company. After 15 minutes on TV, he was thrown out of the show with his idea being ridiculed. The joke was on them because after the show aired, Shaun’s phone started ringing off the hook and over 2000 orders came in. Tangle Teezer is now sold all over the world and Cortex Ltd. was one of the first to start importing it. CHOOSING THE BEST HAIR

STRAIGHTENER OR FLAT IRON

When it comes to hair tools, one of the best investments you can make is in a hair straightener or a flat iron as it is also known. They are extremely versatile tools and it doesn’t matter what type of hair you have - curly, wavy, damaged, thick, fine, or even naturally straight - you will be able to benefit from this amazing hair tool. On the other hand, choosing the right one that is ideal for you and your hair is not an easy task. It can be difficult to know exactly what you need and which brand to opt for. Before diving into the details of straightening irons, you´ll need to determine your hair type. A person with fine, curly hair needs a different straightener than someone with thick, coarse hair. Which type of plates? When looking at hair straighteners, you should keep in mind the type of plate it uses. You will find that the prices of hair straighteners will strongly reflect what type of plate it has. Metal or glass plates are commonly found on hair straighteners which are less expensive and for good reason. These plates are simply not good for your hair. The plates do not heat very quickly, which means it takes much longer to prepare the iron for styling, and when they do heat up, these plates do not heat evenly, which will cause hot spots on the plates that can burn your hair. Often, glass and metal plates will be covered with paint which can chip or peel, causing snags, pulls and tears in your hair. These hair straighteners often cause damage to the hair, leaving it looking very unhealthy. Ceramic plates evenly heat up preventing any hot spots that can damage your hair. They also heat up very quickly which means that you can start styling when you are ready and not when your straightener is. Because they heat up very quickly, there is less overall heat applied to the hair, decreasing the chance of damage. The ceramic works to smooth your hair, leaving it looking shiny and healthy. These irons also eliminate static, thus reducing frizz.

Temperature Control Although the plate type is probably the most important thing to look for in a hair straightener, it’s not the only thing. You will also want to look for an iron that has a temperature adjustment. Being able to adjust the temperature is very important because not everyone’s hair is created in the same way. If you have damaged, colourtreated or very fine hair, you will need a lower temperature setting (180oC) so you don’t risk the possibility of burning or damaging your hair. However, if you have very thick, coarse hair or have very tight curls, you will need a higher temperature setting (190-210oC) in order to achieve the effect you are looking for. Being able to adjust the temperature to suit your needs is a major bonus if you have any special considerations. Plates Size If you have short hair, you may wish to opt for a narrower iron, something that is only 1–1 1/2” wide. Narrow irons are also effective if you already have straight hair and are using the iron to create a greater shine to your hair. The most common size for hair straighteners is 11/4” to 1 1/2”. However, if you have very long hair, you may consider a 2” or 3” plate size in order to save time and get your straightening done more efficiently. Price The last thing to consider before making your decision is also one of the most important – the price of the hair straightener. Of course, you know what budget you have to work with, however we do recommend that you weigh all the options before making your decision. Cheaper hair irons are also of a cheaper quality. They will therefore not perform as well, and they will very likely damage your hair. A professional hair straightener will last longer and give you the hairstyle you desire.
