One of the unsolved mysteries in the world - The Voynich Manuscript. A hand written illustrated codex which dates back to 15th century was the inspiration for this project in which the techniques of Indian embroideries were explored.

- Phulkari means flowers on fabric - Done on coarse cotton with untwisted silk yarns

- Also done in the state of Orissa. - Stitches used : Running stitch - Done on two or more layers of fabric

- Kasuti means working with hands on cotton - Stitches : Ganti, Murgi, Menthe & Negi

Jammu & Kashmir

- Stitches : Chain, stem and satin. - Motifs : Nature, animal and human figures.


Gota Patti R a j a st h a n

- Originates from Rajasthan. - Applique technique is used.


Zardosi Luc k now

- Also done in Bhopal & Delhi - Tools used : Hook needle, salma, zari thread etc.
