ith the rainy season over in June and peak typhoon season in August, July is the perfect month for a beach day in Okinawa. Kadena FSS has everything you need to have an unforgettable day alone or with friends and family without the headache that typically burdens the planner. While the Okinawan shoreline offers limitless opportunity for beach-side fun, this month’s feature will highlight two of Kadena’s flagship beach-front properties: Okuma Beach on the northwest coast of the island and Kadena Marina, located just one-mile north of Kadena Gate 1.
OKUMA If you are seeking a destination-style retreat, consider Okuma Beach first. An easy 1.5-hour drive up scenic Highway 58 brings you to one of the premier peninsulas in all of Okinawa. Pack light too! Okuma’s Outdoor Recreation Equipment rentals can furnish your beach day from top to bottom. With three pavilions available for rent, large BBQ grills (three available and good for groups of 100+), and power outlets, your seaside recreation site is set for a feast. Endless entertainment opportunities await on the water. Include activity passes to your experience for access to Jet Skis, the delightfully unique banana boat sled, as well as ski boat tours. Self-regulated games such as corn hole and bocce ball are available for rent as well. Beyond the shoreline, guests can take a spin on the Speedway Go Cart Track or challenge themselves on the recently refurbished 18 hole mini golf course. Too much fun for one day? Make your day at the beach an overnight, with beach front camping stations. Of course, quiet hours do apply. MARINA Want to have a beach day closer to home? Make Kadena Marina your convenient all-in-one beach day location and equipment provider! Like Okuma Beach, the Kadena Marina partners with its parent facility, Kadena Outdoor Rec, to assist in all the auxiliary services and enhancements your beach day could need. The raised shoreline of Kadena Marina boasts four pavilions with power and three water hook-ups. ODR can deliver their full line up of rentals to include portable propane and charcoal smokers, self-regulated games, bounce houses, and water slides. The beach volleyball area is a huge crowdpleaser for Unit events and is available for rent. Through the Sea Shack at the Marina, beach-goers have a ton of great new options for endless water-play to include two brand new water trikes, kayaks, and paddleboards. Unit events can earn a discount on these rentals with advanced bookings, but most still prefer the flexibility of hourly rentals. Forgot a few of your beach must-haves? Masks, goggles, reef-safe sunblock, and felt-bottom boots are all available at a great price right there at the Marina. Remember, Club members get discounts on select items! YOUTH SPORTS & FITNESS Volunteer Coaches Needed! Kadena Youth Sport operates one of the largest operations in all of DOD. We rely on the continued support of eager and committed volunteer coaches and parents. This is a great opportunity to earn volunteer hours and enrich the youth in our community! We equip all of our coaches with tons of resources at the mandatory coaches meeting at the beginning of each season to ensure a safe and successful athlete/ coach experience.

Seasons run for 12 weeks Ages start as young as 5 and go up to age 18 for all sports except cheerleading which cuts off at age 15. First Steps First Steps programs for basketball, baseball and soccer offer entry level introduction to the sport for ages 3 - 4 with 6 week seasons that run concurrently with the parent program. Effective 27 June, the Child and Youth Programs Business Management System (CYPBMS) replaced WebTrak for registration of all Youth Programmings. Please establish an account with the help of any of our youth programs facilities.
The safety of our young athletes is of the upmost importance. Each prospective coach is required to complete a background check. We also require the completion of the Kadena YS&F Coaches packet, which includes the Coaches Code of Ethics, the National Alliance of Youth Sports (NAYS) coaches exam, and references. This packet is available on our website under the coaches tab.

FAMILY CHILD CARE Permanent Change of Station
PCS Care is intended to help active duty families relieve some of the stress inherently associated with a PCS move. The family will receive up to 20 hours of child care (for each child) when they are within 60 days of the PCS departure or arrival date. Eligibility requirements: • Member of the military service • Active duty • Active duty member retiring • Completed child care for PCS certificate obtained from Airman and Family Readiness Center • Copy of PCS orders Army, Navy, and Marines assigned to AF-led installation are also eligible for the 20 hours of care. 2nd Friday of the Month Every month on the second Friday, children at the CDC will participate and explore in new STEM activities. These activities are designed to help children learn and practice their cognitive skills, which can be applied to their daily life.
Early Learning Matters (ELM Curriculum)
ELM is a 50-week program focused on the development of children in a wide-variety of ways. It encourages and strengthens the academic skills of children even in the infancy stage by breaking down 14 foundational skills into five areas: communication and language, cognitive, self-regulation, social-emotional, and physical health.
CYP Spotlight Diana Ramos is currently a CYP staff member at Niko Niko Child Development Center. Diana is originally from California and has been working in the CDC for just over a year. She has had the pleasure of working with children for over 6 years and her favorite part has been watching them grow and learn new things. She loves being in Okinawa, exploring new places and new things.
