Fall is here and it’s just the best! Pumpkin spice lattes (call me basic, IDGAF), colorful leaves, warm layers, and crisp cold. It’s just my favorite, only enhanced by this beautiful issue including our amazing cover star Shannon Purser. I’m so proud of her Emmy nomination, and even though she didn’t win she is still my favorite breakout star of the year. Big things are coming for her and all of our insanely talented artists in this issue. Cailee Rae, Camille Hyde and Talitha Bateman are gracing the pages of the fall issue and it’s absolutely glorious. TALITHA BATEMAN

Talitha Bateman was born on the 4th of September in 2001 and with her sweet 16 she’s already on her way to go big. She’s probably best known for her role as Janice in Annabelle: Creation where she showed us what acting is all about. With Jute Fashion Magazine Talitha talked about her future projects, her goals and what it takes to turn talent into success. But read for yourself:

MARIE-CHRISTIN TRIPOLT [MCT]: First of all, we would like to know what you are up to next. What projects are planned and what is the next move?

20 is Geostorm. And in 2018, Simon versus the Homo Sapiens Agenda. This project is relevant to the times. I suggest everyone read the book and watch the movie!

TALITHA BATEMAN [TB]: There are always projects that are in consideration, which of course, I can’t talk about. But what I can talk about is my projects that are about to come out. The movie Vengeance a Love Story is in limited theaters on September 15 and then will be available on demand. I did this project because it deals with court systems victimizing women after violence. These stories happen often and it's tragic.

So B. It comes out, also to limited theaters, October 6 and I am very proud of this project. This is about a triangle of "women" one of them being the character I play, Heidi, (a girl but a woman) who are in one way or another imprisoned by what seems like uncontrollable circumstances in their lives. It is Heidi's sudden drive to find the truth of her identity that leads them all to discovery and new freedom. I can't wait for people to see it. Also coming October

[MCT]: Why did you decide to become an actor? It was never a conscious decision. [TB]: I kinda fell into it.

What’s the story behind this decision?

[TB]: I read a lot of books when I was a kid and whenever I was reading or watching film I would find myself sympathizing and relating to many characters.

So when a situation in my sister Leah’s life put me in front of agents, everything fell into place.

[MCT]: What

are you particularly proud of?

[TB]: My family. We are passionate and argue, but at the end of the day we all love each other. There is not anyone in my immediate family that would not roll up their sleeves to help the poor, or visit the elderly, or help a single mother with her young children. I love this about them.

4) What is the best about your job? What do you enjoy the most about acting? So many things are wonderful about acting but I think what I like best is this incredible honor I have been given in the opportunity to explore, real or fictitious characters, and bring what the writer envisioned, while adding my own interpretations, to life. I get to be a story teller, to collaborate and create and hopefully entertain, but also make people think.

5) How does it feel when you see yourself on the big screen?

Embarrassing. I hate to watch myself on the screen. I am my own strongest critic and it is hard to watch my performance without questioning my decisions.

6) What is your ultimate goal? Where do you see yourself in a few years?

My ultimate goal is to acquire new goals on this journey and to make a difference in my circle of influence. I have no idea where I will be in a few years but I hope that I am happy and helping others.

7) If there was one movie/series that you could re-create with you as the leading character, which one would it be?

Oh boy! So many. But I think if they make Coraline into a live-action film I would love to play that role!

8) What is your recipe for success?

There is no recipe. Just like when I’m cooking I make it up as I go along. Haha.

9) What is the biggest challenge about taking on a new role?

I think I do best with challenging characters. So sometimes the challenge is to find the challenge. Some characters come across as very one-dimensional. So the challenge is to find what isn’t written, the story behind the words, without offending anyone in production.

10) How do you decide whether you want to take a role or not?

It’s a group effort. There are lots of discussions. But my parents have always put heavy emphasis on me making the final decision.

11) Do you prefer roles that are completely different or very similar to your own character?

Both. And I feel like I always bring something new to the character and I always walk away with qualities that I gained from that character.

12) Annabelle was a huge success, did you expect it to be that big?

I try not to have expectations. In this business, and I guess in life in general, it leads to less disappointments. But I am hugely happy with its success.

13) How does it make you feel that people now know your name, want to take selfies with you etc.?

It’s humbling and honestly surreal. But sometimes fans are aggressive and get easily angered. Or some they almost worship you. I find it hard to know how to react to this. I’m very much an introvert.

14) Is there anything that you would like to tell your young fans out there that look up to you?

Don’t. I will fail. But look within yourself to find what is good and pursue that.

15) Do you have a life motto and do you live by it? If yes, what is it?

I don’t really have a life motto but I think a good one is “treat others as you would want to be treated”. And I do try to live by it. Another one is there’s no such thing as too much hot sauce. I live by that one too.

16) What is the most important in your life and why?

My faith but I keep that private.

17) What would you say are your best qualities and how do they help you in the movie business?

My mom says I’m passionate and compassionate. I do feel easily for others. Maybe that’s why I’d love do this as long as the public will have me.

[MCT]: If there was one movie/series that you could re-create with you as the leading character, which one would it be?

[TB]: Oh boy! So many. But I think if they make Coraline into a live-action film I would love to play that role!

[MCT]: What

is your recipe for success?

[TB]: There is no recipe. Just like when I’m cooking I make it up as I go along. Haha.

[MCT]: What is the biggest challenge about taking on a new role?

[TB]: I think I do best with challenging characters. So sometimes the challenge is to find the challenge. Some characters come across as very one-dimensional. So the challenge is to find what isn’t written, the story behind the words, without offending anyone in production.

[MCT]: How do you decide whether you want to take a role or not?

[TB]: It’s a group effort. There are lots of discussions.

But my parents have always put heavy emphasis on me

making the final decision.

[MCT]: Do you prefer roles that are completely different or very similar to your own character?

[TB]: Both. And I feel like I always bring something new to the character and I always walk away with qualities that I gained from that character.

[MCT]: Annabelle was a huge success, did you expect it to be that big?

[TB]: I try not to have expectations. In this business, and I guess in life in general, it leads to less disappointments.

But I am hugely happy with its success.

[MCT]: How does it make you feel that people now know your name, want to take selfies with you etc.?

[TB]: It’s humbling and honestly surreal. But sometimes fans are aggressive and get easily angered. Or some they almost worship you. I find it hard to know how to react to this. I'm very much an introvert.

[MCT]: Is there anything that you would like to tell your young fans out there that look up to you?

[TB]: Don't. I will fail. But look within yourself to find what is good and pursue that.

[MCT]: Do you have a life motto and do you live by it?

If yes, what is it?

[TB]: I don't really have a life motto, but I think a good one is "treat others as you would want to be treated". And I do try to live by it. Another one is there's no such thing as too much hot sauce. I live by that one too.

[MCT]: What is the most important in your life and why?

[TB]: My faith, but I keep that private.

[MCT]: What would you say are your best qualities and how do they help you in the movie business?

[TB]: My mom says I'm passionate and compassionate. I do feel easily for others. Maybe that's why I'd love do this as long as the public will have me.

Vocal enthusiast and music admirer, Cailee Rae cocooned by conquering magic on the strings and emerged with the miraculous self-realization that music was not a temporary past time at the age of seven. With a sincere dedication to mastering her craft, Cailee personally taught herself the dynamics of the guitar, piano, cajone and drums and enthusiastically began to compose brilliant cover singles to share on her social media platforms. Today, at the age of 16, the music sensation maintains half a million followers on Instagram and utilizes her respected playground to flaunt her astoundingly original voice and continuously strive for a career in the music industry. She launched her first original single ‘Anchor’ in partnership with Teen Vogue, a globally celebrated track conceptualized by Cailee herself and with over 1.4 million video views. Alongside Cailee’s remarkable sound she is a creative intellect who possesses a natural zest for imprinting the music she creates with her unique signature and an honest artist who genuinely wishes to “spread positive messages through her music and fill stadiums with people and with love”.

being an artist?

What is the most rewarding/fulfilling aspect of

CAILEE RAE [CR]: Oh gosh. I would say two things. I think starting a song and finishing it is so rewarding becuase it takes so much hard work and different people to make a great song. The second thing would definitely be the fans. Being able to touch people all over the world through music just makes me the happiest/luckiest girl in the world.

[SN]: How would you define your sound? What is your motive as an artist?

[CR]: Honestly my songs are always changing with me as I grow up.

I just want to be an honest artist with a message and really relate to people. I want to make people feel good.

[SN]: What has been the most challenging aspect of being a young artist, transitioning your lifestyle and making a strong imprint in the music industry?

[CR]: Well, for me I’d say just staying true and believe in myself. I think being young, there is so much life ahead so it can be scary to risk it all for a dream. But to me its worth it because I really cant see myself doing anything else.

[SN]: Who are your favorite artists and what about them inspires you? What other factors play a significant role when it comes to you writing your own music?

[CR]: I love so many different artists. Each artist is so different and unique and that’s what really inspires me as an artist. I dont want to be like them, but I want to stand out like them and show my artistry in a way no one else does. I think when I write, my main goal is to let loose.

The second you’re uptight and trying too hard, it becomes artifitial.

[SN]: Describe your first stage performance. Were you nervous?

Excited? How did you prepare yourself and overcome stage fright?

[CR]: Omg. I was so nervous. It was this little tiny room and everyone was so quiet. I couldn’t even go out and my band pushed me on. The second I got on stage all my fears went away and it felt like home.

[SN]: What are your future career moves and endeavors for yourself as an artist? Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

[CR]: I’m sure I will grow and change as I get older, but my main goal would just to be touring. I want to travel the world and sing my songs with fans.

[SN]: Wise words of endearment and encouragement for other aspiring artists?

[CR]: You could be the ripest juiciest peach in the world, but not everyone likes peaches. It’s about being you and making your dream come to life. Not about people telling you how to sing or what you should look like to make a career happen.

[SN]: How do you maintain passion, consistency and positivity in your music?

[CR]: Keeping people close to me that I know will inspire me and keep me in a positive enviroment. Love inspires.

[SN]: How do you unwind? What are your favorite things to do when you catch a breather? What are your guilty pleasures?

[CR]: Definitely hours and hours of binge watching YouTube or Netflix. I’m a sucker for watching makeup tutorials!

[SN]: Describe the creative process taken when it comes to composing new music. What steps are crucial, challenging and fulfilling?

[CR]: I just go in and start freely writing on the piano. When I get something I like I make a verse then redo it, then redo it, then redo it about a million times until I’m pleased. I’m a perfectionist.

Shannon Purser’s infectious appeal goes deeper than the roles she portrays. At barely twenty, Purser has already attracted a cult like following for her portrayals of both the enigmatic Ethel Muggs in The CW’s revamp of the Archie Comics, Riverdale; and again as Barb Holland (Netflix hit Stranger Things) in which she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy as a guest actress in a drama series. do you do for fun when you

SHANNON PURSER [SP]: I love to read, and write (mostly) fiction [Shannon is currently working on a book]; try different makeup looks; watch scary movies [her favorite? The Shining], sing, and play with any dog I can find. I’ve taken up meditation recently, which I really enjoy. It does wonders for my anxiety, and yoga, when I can get up the motivation to do it. My favorite thing is to get a massage every now and then. Music helps me get into character, as does getting away from everyone else and sort of forcing myself into the headspace of the character.

[RC]: What

sort of music do you listen to?

[SP]: The Smiths are a good band to chill to.

[RC]: If you weren’t in film and television, what would you be doing?

[SP]: I initially went to school for psychology and I think I’d have enjoyed being a therapist one day.

[RC]: Which characters that have been most like you, and which have been the least or hardest to play?

[SP]: There are elements to all of them that occasionally remind me of myself. I guess Barb and I are pretty similar.

I’m not as blunt as her, though. Ethel Muggs is a complicated woman. She’s a very good and forgiving, but there’s a darkness to her. I suppose she’s difficult to play sometimes because I haven’t completely figured her out yet either.

…At the 2017 San Diego Comic Con, Stranger Things creators, Duffer Brothers (Matt and Ross) and conspired by hiding Shannon amongst the other Stranger Things fans to pose the question of her former cast mates: “Will Barb make it into season two?”…

[SP]: The

surprise was the Duffer’s idea, but none of the cast knew I was coming! It was really fun to surprise everyone and see them all again. None of the cast knew I was coming and everyone was pretty shocked when I just popped up! I think it took fans a little while to figure out it was me but when they did, they all started screaming! The cast couldn’t hear anything I was saying to them. It was hilarious and such fun.

[RC]: Was this your first year (at Comic Con)?

[SP]: It was! I only got a very small taste of it, but I’m sure I’ll get the chance to go back someday.

[RC]: Do you consider yourself a fangirl? If so, what for?

[SP]: I’d say I could most assuredly be a fangirl.

My number one allegiance is to Harry Potter. I’m obsessed with everything about that series. Before I fell in love with movies, I was in love with books.

I used to daydream about being the characters and having great and amazing adventures to go on. Then I began to watch more and more movies and tv and sort of realized that I could be in stories as an actor! There’s this incredible catharsis and freedom I feel when I’m able to completely lose myself in a character or story and I’m so glad I somehow landed the coolest job in the world.

[RC]: Which book and character were your favorites; can you describe yourself in that fandom?

[SP]: I think Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite book of the series and my favorite character is probably Remus Lupin. He’s incredibly compassionate, kind, and brave. And, I’m pretty sure I’m a Hufflepuff, though there is a bit of Ravenclaw in there, too. I feel like (career-wise) maybe I’d work with Magical Creatures or be a professor.

[RC]: In addition to the HP series, what other books and authors have inspired you?

[SP]: Some of my favorite authors are Rainbow Rowell (read Landline and Eleanor & Park), Brian Jacques (I LOVED the Redwall series) and Markus Zusak (The Book Thief and I Am the Messenger).

[RC]: How about favorite movies, or maybe any particular favorite artists you would like to work with?

[SP]: Oh dear. That’s such a hard question to answer.

I do think The Princess Bride has to be one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.

[RC]: Princess Bride, epic. Do you have a favorite line or quote from it?

[SP]: “As you wish…” That has to be the most romantic movie line of all time. Brie Larson really just blows me away in everything I see her in. She has this incredible honesty to her work that I admire so much. Viola Davis also knows how to bare her entire soul on screen in a way that I can only hope to also aspire to. I really deeply miss Heath Ledger, too. I can only imagine the amazing work he would do now if he were alive. I would love to do a scene with Meryl Streep. She’s basically the queen of acting and it would be amazing to act alongside her and get to learn from her.

[RC]: What

are you currently working on?

[SP]: I’m currently filming season two of Riverdale and I’m about to get started on shooting my upcoming NBC show, Rise. (Also starring Josh Radnor, Rosie Perez, Auli’i Cravalho) It’s a drama, that centers around high schoolers in a small town and their new drama teacher (Radnor) who decides to shake things up. It’s shot in the Brooklyn area.

How does it feel to have your career flowering at a time when female roles are becoming much more developed and stronger both in physicality (i.e.

Wonder Woman) and in substance?

[SP]: It’s so encouraging to see how the industry is changing for the better in terms of female representation.

I feel like I’m reaping the rewards of the strong and talented women who have worked (and are still working) [RC]:

to make this change. It’s incredibly refreshing to get to read for complex and unique female characters and I am grateful to have entered the industry when I did.

That being said, there’s definitely a lot more work to be done. For example, in 2016 only seven percent of the directors of top grossing films were women.

[RC]: Are

you politically active? How so?

[SP]: I’d say I’m most passionate about racial and LGBT justice. Particularly, the events of Charlottesville and UVA are so terrifying and sobering. Racism has not disappeared. It is up to us to stand with our black brothers and sisters and declare without wavering that white supremacy is evil and it is dangerous. You don’t really think of discrimination as a political issue, but as more of an ethical one. However, when our current government seems to deliberately work against peopleof-color and minorities, there is something politically and legally that needs to be done.

I’d like to be more active than I am right now. I try to stay informed and stand up for what I believe is right.

Ignorance is really the enemy of growth and I enjoy educating myself about perspectives and experiences that are not my own. However, education is not enough.

We must speak up and use whatever platform we have available to create positive change.

CAMILLEHYDE Camille Hyde is an actress, singer, and dancer, who began her career as a child, performing with her family. She has appeared in multiple series for Nickelodeon and is now starring as “Gabi” in Netflix’s “American Vandals.” The challenge of this role is to portray the girl-next-door, with another side to her.

You are an actress, singer, pianist, and dancer, what fuels your passion for the performing arts? How old were you when you started off?

I was super young when I started so I honestly don’t remember not singing, dancing and acting. My dad always had me perform Diana Ross and the Supremes songs in front of family members and my mom put me in every theater camp under the sun, so their support was monumental in me being able to express my love for music, acting and performing. I loved being on stage when I was younger and loved the energy and feelings I felt after finishing a production. I knew it was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

What was it like growing up as a child actor, and how does it feel now having performed for most of your life?

It was an amazing outlet for me to express myself. I was so dedicated to theater and putting on great shows, I didn’t want to take part in anything that wasn’t creative or constructive to my life. I’m lucky that I also got to have a complete childhood.

I wasn’t a kid who grew up in LA acting on TV and Film and was actively working instead of being in school (not that there’s anything wrong with it). I went to school full-time, did sports, hung out with friends and was able to travel and spend time

with my friends without anything putting pressure on me.

Then once I moved to California, I was ready to take my acting to a professional level and focus mostly on that. I’m really grateful that I had the time to really be a kid and can more seriously cultivate my career now.

You have two current projects, including the upcoming Netflix series “American Vandals” which premiers this fall; Who is your character, and how did this come to be?

Yes! I’m so excited for the world to see it and meet my character Gabi. Gabi is the girl-next-door of the trio and is helping her friends piece together everyone’s story. She also has a backstory of her own that involved a love triangle with her fratty, no-good boyfriend and her lifelong best friend. So she’s trying to piece together her personal life and the truth about the vandalism at the same time.

What was it about this role that attracted you?

Gabi is a really understanding, honest and dependable girl who’s really true to who she is and is zero-drama. Sometimes she lets people take advantage of her kindness, but she learns to defend herself. She has a really good heart and I really admire that about her.

You have worked with Nickelodeon starring in “Power Rangers Dino Charge” and “The Thundermans” What was it like working with Netflix?

Nickelodeon is such a great company to work for; they really make our environment fun and uplifting. Obviously we had to keep things PG and cater to the audience our shows were intended for which was great because I got to be a part of children’s memories and teaching them valuable messages in our episodes. While it is wildly different, it has been absolutely incredible working with Netflix. I feel like Netflix is the perfect platform for people to try daring and innovative content that is super uncensored and edgy. I love that we all got to play with our characters and bring our own creativity to it.

Yes! Go90 is a site where you can stream original series, live sports & music for free and you can also download go90 app to do all those things as well! It’s super easy and convenient, especially when you’re on the go and want to watch some quality entertainment!

You are also an equestrian. What do you enjoy about horseback riding?

I am! I started riding horses when I was 3 or 4 years old— it’s definitely a huge part of who I am. I grew up spending hours and hours at the barn on weekends and competed for years too.

I love that I can just remove myself from my regular day life and be around these magnificent creatures with so much empathy.

It’s super humbling and all I think about is my horse when I’m out there. Everyone needs their safe place and that’s what the barn is to me!
