Hey lovelies I just have to start this season’s letter with a huge thank you to the newly appointed Jute staff. Rachel Martinez, Sydnee Paige and Marie-Christin Tripolt are new to the magazine as of the last issue and it’s been so amazing to work with such fabulous women and continually improve the magazine. And an even bigger thank you to Matthew Vita who has been Jute’s talented graphic designer for some time now. You make the magazine beautiful and it would pale in comparison without you. I’m feeling very full of love as we release the newest issue as the new team has continually helped to feature more designers and celebrities, both inside the magazine and on the Jute site. I feel so privileged to take on a lot more feature content. I sure hope the readers are loving it as much as I am! Admittedly, which you already know if you read my last editor’s note, I am not a big fan of summer. I don’t like being hot, I struggle to dress well, I get cranky, etc. It’s really like my entire wardrobe is built for fall and winter and I’m trying so hard to fix it. This issue is bringing me mad inspiration though and includes some of my favorite summer trends and those things I do actually like about summer: oversized hats, flowy dresses, rosy cheeks, bold and colorful prints, breezy days, lazy beaches and smiling faces. Ok, maybe I almost, kind of like summer. It’s my sincerest hope that you enjoy this issue. And if you don’t, please tell me why! I always love to hear your feedback! Meg Donnelly is an actress, model, dancer and singer. You may recognize her from Teen Toon, The Broken Ones, Disney’s Zombies and now American Housewife. If you’re anything like me, you’re obsessed with American Housewife! Meg’s portrayal of Taylor Otto is so heartbreakingly realistic: the teenager who just wants to fit in, but is really struggling with her identity. I think everyone can relate to that on some level. Meg took the time out of her busy schedule to catch us up on her life, career, and what makes her tick.
How much of yourself do you bring to the role of Taylor? How is she similar or dissimilar to you? Taylor is a bit distracted and does not like school, but she is an intuitive teenage girl who is trying to find herself. She struggles between family and independence, like most teenagers, myself included. While flawed at times, Taylor has a big heart. I really enjoy ‘being’ Taylor.

What differences do you notice between doing a kids show (Ash, in Team Toon) and staring in a sitcom geared toward older audiences? The main difference is the age of the fans. As expected, both Team Toon and Zombies fans are much younger and very enthusiastic. American Housewife fans are mostly moms who can relate to Katy’s character. Regardless, I love the all the fans and do my best to be open and welcoming to them.
How is working for Disney different from other companies? Disney is like working with your family. It is great from the moment I arrived in Toronto (where Zombies was shot) to when we wrapped. The cast and crews of Disney Zombies and American Housewife are the best. We really care about each other and that brings out the best in all of us!
How have your friends and family reacted to your skyrocketing career? My family and friends could not be more supportive to me. I am very blessed that I have the loving family and friends that I do. My mom and dad have always been there for me and I could not be as successful without their love and support.
What was your biggest takeaway from Addison in Zombies? Addison is starting high school and is looking to “fit in” based on what she was taught as a child, but she soon realizes you cannot simply accept what others tell you. You need to experience people for who they
Did you enjoy the Romeo/Juliet storyline? Milo and I became friends during the audition process, so it was so much fun doing the scenes with him. My favorites were ‘Someday’ and “Ice cream parlor” scene.

What is it like to be recognized on the street? I LOVE meeting my fans! I love the excitement and the chance to get to talk to them. One of my favorite things is to meet new people and when I get recognized it is so awesome.
I know you were an understudy for the character Louisa Von Trapp in The Sound of Music Live! And you have studied theatre. Do you have any interest in continuing to pursue theatre work? I would love to be in a Broadway Musical. I especially would love to a play a strong, complex and dynamic female lead, such as Mimi from Rent or Eliza from Hamilton. I was fortunate to play such a character in Disney Zombies.
Who are your role models? How have they shaped your career or personality? I have always looked up to and wanted to be Amy Poleher and Tina Fey. Not only are they hilarious, but when I found out they wrote their own material, I was in awe. Currently, I aspire to be like my TV parents, Katy Mixon and Deidrich Bader. We are truly a family. They are both so gracious with their time: advising me in my acting choices and the various ways to approach each scene. But even more impressive is how they treat the cast and crew. They are both so kind and considerate. They make everyone on the set feel important and a part of the show. That is something I try to emulate each day on set.
What do you do in your spare time? I'm always dancing and singing! I also like playing guitar, learning the Japanese language, surfing, hiking and hanging with my friends (both in LA & NYC). Do you have any pets? Yes, a cat named ‘Maui’. She is very cute and cuddly.
What is your favorite animal and why? An elephant, because they laugh, care for each other and are intelligent. They are also lead by a matriarch. How much time do you spend on social media? I know you are super active on Instagram (since that’s where I follow you!) I love connecting with the fans and social media helps me do that. I try not to spend too much time, but enough to check in with the fans and friends.
Who is the actor (on-screen or theatre) you would most like to work with? There are so many talented people currently working in the entertainment world. I would be so grateful to work with any of them. But I did (do) have a celebrity crush on Chris Helmsworth, so I would love to be in a project with him LOL. I do admire the strong actresses in both Hollywood and on Broadway. I would love to share the screen and stage with any of them!!
Where is the top place that you would love to travel to? Not only am I learning the Japanese language, but I am also interested in the Japanese culture. I’ve long wanted to travel to Japan and it looks like I will be heading there this summer! I am so excited! Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers? I would love to pass on the best advice I have received to date; ‘Be prepared, but do not over think. Always be in the moment, but most of all, have fun!’ I not only apply this to my professional life, but my personal life as well. Just be you!!!

ATIAS Moran Atias is successful, humble and very much going the extra mile if it comes to preparing for a role. Jute Magazine talked to the Israeli-American actress about her career, her extraordinary effort to get in the zone for a role and her experiences with Sex And The City’s “Mr. Big”. But read for yourself and find out more about the Israeli beauty:
First of all, it would be amazing if you could tell us a little about yourself; how would you describe yourself? What's your biggest strength/weakness? And what is important to you? I’m not able to answer that question with confidence, cause describing myself feels limiting and I believe we all evolve and change which is the best part of growing.
Another project I have in development is based on the best seller book - Mossad - Its greatest missions by Nissim Mishal and Michael Bar Zohar.
Strengths are my passion and love that I have for life, people, nature. I commit to things with great passion and dedication and I hope that is a quality the people around me enjoy.
Speaking of Israel, you originally are from Israel but now live in America. Where do you feel more at home? I feel home when I’m in peace so that can be anywhere.
What’s important to me is unity: the ability we have as people to unite and connect. What are current and future projects that you are working on? I have been writing for the past few years. One project is based on the life story of Ilana Rada, a mother that has been fighting for truth behind her daughter’s murder. It’s a true story that happened in Israel 11 years ago and has shaken our community ever since.
Of course acting continues to be my day job :-) and I will start a new show for NBC called The Village. I will also be in the Jury of Israel's Got Talent.
Apart from Israel and the U.S., you've also lived in other countries. Where have you already been living and what experiences have you made? Yes, I have lived in different countries. We filmed Tyrant in Israel and Budapest for two seasons and before I moved to the U.S., I lived in Italy for 6 years. It was the most incredible place to learn how to enjoy life which I keep practicing with this “Dolce Vita” lifestyle.

Luciana Bladerrama blouse I read that you actually lived in Italy for some time without running FETE bustier water and electricity in order to prepare for a role; howJad important is Ghandour skirt Csengeri earrings authenticity to you and how was it living under thoseDori circumstances? It’s extremely important and each role and each story demands a different kind of preparation. In Third Person I played a gypsy that is being treated like dirt so I had to get to that point to really experience what it means to be humiliated, discriminated and treated shamefully and I was shocked that it only took being dirty and a different selection of clothes. This role is the work I’m most proud of because I also feel like I earned so much from that experience.
From 2014 to 2016 you were playing Leila in Tyrant; how was working with "Mr. Big”? Playing Leila was a role of a life time. Iconic, inspiring and humbling in many ways. The research allowed me to learn so much about a religion and culture. Most of my work has demanded a deep and layered character work which I felt could allow me to honor women like Leila that are dealing with threats as a lifestyle. So, when Mr. Big, aka Chris Noth, became my lover I allowed Leila to be free and enjoy and so did I. I had a blast working with him. At time, we laughed so much it was hard to keep a straight face. What are movies/ TV shows that you love watching? I love documentaries and with the projects I have been writing I saw a LOT of the Mossad and our political leaders. I watch Handmaid’s Tale, Fauda, 13 Reasons Why and I haven’t seen a single movie since I’ve been traveling a lot. When you were 17 you modeled for Roberto Cavalli; how did you get from modeling to acting? Roberto Cavalli was one of the first people that I worked with and another Italian designer Domenico Dolce was the one that encouraged me to become an actress, so I took an acting seminar and was beyond lucky to have Michael Margotta to be my acting teacher. Thanks to him I was exposed to the method. And what about your future? What are your plans and goals for the next few years? To live in peace, practice giving and creating memorable stories and creating a family :-) I like to keep myself busy. Last question; what's a piece of advice that you would give your younger self? Be kind to yourself.

You launched a fashion blog prior to your modeling career. Tell us what designers have inspired your unique sense of style. Ever since I was little, I’ve always kind of dressed however I wanted. Even today I find myself looking at highlights of New York fashion week and feeling so inspired. There isn’t really a specific designer I always go to. I find something I like and I find my own way to recreate it - whether it’s going to Goodwill and finding a piece that reminds me of how a show made me feel or cutting up and messing with things I already have in my closet.
What do you enjoy doing on your off time? I love painting and watching movies with my friends. I could literally sit and watch dark documentaries for hours. What artists are you currently listening to? I’ve been listening to SUMMY and a lot of new Kanye. What quote or mantra would you say best describes you? Be unapologetic.
Did you always aspire to be a model? If you weren’t modeling, what do you see yourself doing? I didn’t really know I wanted to model until I fell into the business. I knew I always wanted to be in the fashion world, but I always saw myself behind the scenes. Even today I’d love to design clothes and own a brand. I have many goals beyond modeling.
How do you handle the pressure and/or criticism that can come along with this industry, and what advice would you give young girls aspiring to model? I just try to not take things too seriously. You can’t let random people on Instagram get to your head.
What are some of your go-to beauty products right now? Most days of my life I’m not wearing much makeup. But I always have Becca liquid highlight on and my glossier boy brow.
What’s one thing you wish people knew about you? I feel like people think from my Instagram and social media accounts that I’m this outlandish person, but I’m actually so shy when you meet me. I take some warming up to.
How has your perception of the modeling industry changed since you first started? I think everyone who isn’t in the modeling world sees it as an easy, glamorous job and that you are treated like a celebrity. But I soon realized it’s hard work, long days, and takes a lot of dedication.

Tasya Teles: passionate, strong and very outspoken – just like her favorite characters to play. You might know her from CW’s “The 100” where she plays the badass warrior-assassin “Echo”. We, however, know her for so much more. Jute Fashion Magazine had some questions and Tasya some answers. This power woman talked to us about “dangerous New York”, her human rights organization, and her little detour from finance to acting. Read for yourself:

You started acting after initially pursuing a degree in finance. What made you switch career paths? I finally listened to my gut, which was screaming at me to do what I loved. I had acted as a child, but as I grew up, I was being pulled in a different direction, and I was absolutely miserable. I felt lost – the only thing I wanted to do was act, but I worried that it was too late to switch careers. When the stock market crashed I took it as a sign from the universe that I needed to course correct, and immediately signed up for an acting class. I started tuning in and following my gut a lot more honestly, which hasn’t let me down since. I know now that my intuition was always telling me to follow a certain path; I just wasn’t listening. Well, Acting has definitely paid off; you play ‘Echo’ in the CW series "The 100". What is the show about and how would you describe your character? Echo has grown and changed immensely from season to season, which makes her so interesting to play, but also very challenging. Season 4 Echo was this badass warriorassassin, who trusted no one, and was basically a killing machine for the Royal family who employed her. Now, in season 5, we meet Echo after she’s gone through a huge transformation. Her former murderous self has become a thing of the past. Echo 2.0 is a lot cooler, softer, and less trigger happy. She’s definitely more zen, but she’ll always have that ferociousness bubbling beneath a cool exterior, and she’s not someone who’ll go down without a fight. What roles do you tend to gravitate towards? I tend to love the troublemakers with a conscience. The flawed warrior, or the misunderstood rebel. I don’t find myself playing a lot of soft sensitive types; the roles I usually connect with are women who are fighting for something. They have a strong perspective, and they are quite vocal about it, even if it gets them into trouble. They have a lot of fire. Of all the characters you have played, which do you most resemble? They say once you play a character, a little piece stays with you forever. Of the characters I have played, I think I identify the most with Sitara from Watchdogs 2, as well as Echo from The 100. Both women fight for what they believe in, and are unwavering in their beliefs. Apart from the work we’ve just spoken about, you have appeared in a number of series with supernatural or post-apocalyptic themes, do you have any funny stories about working on those sets? I need someone to follow me around with a pen and notepad because there is always tons of joking around, and endless pranks that happen on set, and while it’s all going
down, I smile at myself and think, “I’ll look back at these memories fondly. Memories to cherish. Memories to share with the grandkids.” And then I can never remember what happened. What is one role you would give anything to play? Cleopatra. I find her endlessly interesting. Arguably one of the most famous women in history, and yet someone we know nearly nothing about. You have stated that you were obsessed with 1970's art and politics, what draws you to that time period? I find the late 60s to early 80s in New York specifically an exciting time period because there seems to be this rising cultural backlash against the conservative nuclear families of their childhood. There were these strong underground cultural currents, that birthed multidisciplinary aritistic movements that were so dynamic and alive during those years. It’s as if the 50s kids said to their parents, “it’s time to shed the bullshit pretense,” and then disco, and punk, and rock and roll came to the forefront of American culture. I get lost in the collective nostalgia of New York at that time. It was a time of exploration and experimentation. We saw the birth of hip-hop, alongside new political movements, where art and creativity was flying. New York was dangerous, edgy and exciting, with an electrifying cultural scene, which is very seductive to me. I just feel like it was a time where ideas were unleashed and people weren’t shackled to their Insta-follower count. Who are some influential figures from that time period? Oh my god there are so many, but I am perennially in love with Cher and Bianca Jagger, along with artists Keith Haring, Basquiat, and Warhol. You have an organization called "unsaved" which supports children at risk of human trafficking; what makes you passionate about that cause? It all started with a book that drew my attention to the atrocities that are happening all over the world against women, namely human trafficking. I read Half the Sky: Turning Opression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide written by NT columnists, Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, and I was burdened with the need to participate in somehow to make changes and draw attention to the issue. Unslaved is a simple idea whereby we sell bracelets to raise money for human trafficking organizations, and spread awareness, but my plan is to grow the community to empower people everywhere to start their own campaigns for projects that they are passionate about, and give them tools and inspiration stories to do so.
