I always feel like every issue sneaks up on me. It’s always so far away until it’s in my face screaming to be let out. This issue has come with a fair amount of strife. We were scrambling to the finish line, trying to get every file in order, wardrobe credit, feature details, etc. prepared and verified until the last possible moment. Admittedly, I was quite concerned that we would have to delay release at one point. The good news is that the hardest issues to release are the ones that come with the most reward. I’m sitting in front of my computer exhausted, yet starry-eyed as we put the fall issue forth into the world. The list of features in this issue feels epic. We have a cover story with Isabeli Fontana. Can you believe it? I mean, she’s a legend. Isabeli, you’re a legend! From campaigns from Versace to Dolce (and infinite more) to Victoria’s Secret runways to brand collaborations: she’s done it all. And I’m not just referring to the fashion industry. She’s also a Rotary International ambassador for polio vaccinations and an amazing human being. I’m so proud to have her grace our cover. I must give a special thanks to the amazing JD Forte and Kamitha Sloan for making this happen. That’s not all though! We have Fiona Xie from Crazy Rich Asians looking like a ray of sunshine. The photos by Tereza Janakova are perfection. If you haven’t seen the movie you need to get moving because it’s amazing. She’s amazing! Then there’s Tessa Hilton, who I got to meet in person and I have to say is genuinely one of the sweetest women I’ve ever met. We sat down for coffee at The Pierre and she chatted about everything under the sun. Her lists of talents and accomplishments are enough for five lifetimes and she’s only in her twenties. More thanks are due to Candice Soloman for coordinating everything with Tessa. Thank you, Candice! We have Tammy Hembrow gracing the issue as well and she is on fire in her photos. She’s such goals! I love how real she is in her story and it was lovely working with her team on set. And don’t miss her newest activewear collection Saski, which she premiered at NYFW. I hope this issue makes you as happy as it makes me! Enjoy it because it will be a bit longer than usual until the next one. We have something totally different in the works for the next issue and we’re delaying release to give ourselves plenty of time to make it perfect.

After stepping away from the spotlight for several years, actress Fiona Xie – star of the box office hit Crazy Rich Asians – caught us up on what brought her back to the big screen and what she’s been up to in the mean time.
Starting her career at the budding age of fifteen, Fiona’s parents shied her away from the encapsulating entertainment industry. Instant success on her first show catapulted her into ferocious fame and her growth was unstoppable. “I was possibly very privileged and sheltered while growing up,” Fiona says, “lacking the exposure and ability to explore the world and other cultures.” Her father – a strong creative influence in her life, impressed a love of architecture upon her. “I grew up with creatives and libraries of architecture bibles. I was fascinated by design, philosophical elements of structure and the emotions and engineering behind functional art pieces,” she shares. Channeling her creative energy into various forms of expression, Fiona exhibits passion for photography and helping others fulfill their creative desires. Keeping herself mentally and emotionally sound through her strong faith in God, surrounding herself with friends and family, and taking the time to travel. Traveling filled much of Fiona’s time during her extensive break away from the industry, allowing her to re-center and fully circle back to herself. “I was happy to be away
from the limelight and keep a low profile. Sometimes when you’ve already been at the top, you crave for your life to be quiet and shrouded in mystery instead. I think once you’re in the entertainment industry, you can never really escape it’s clutches,” Fiona shares. Citing her role as Kitty Pong in Crazy Rich Asians as ‘divine intervention,’ Fiona was presented with the part by a good friend that strongly encouraged her to take the role. “I had reservations about being Kitty Pong and everyone had to convince me,” she says. Feeling as though it was truly meant to be after all the stars were aligned, Fiona delved into her character within a film that delivers rich color, culture and community for us all to enjoy. Not taking for granted her experiences that have led her to where she is now, Fiona is a role model for us all to continue to follow our dreams and passions. “Every decision is a journey for growth and new sparks,” she says, “it has brought me to where I am today.” You can catch Fiona Xie in Crazy Rich Asians in theatres now and follow her @xplacidacidx

Tessa Hilton, or Tessa Gräfin Von Walderdorff (as she is called in Germany), is a socialite, model, actress, writer and if we kept listing it all we could easily dedicate the entire issue to her. Jute Magazine met Tessa at the Pierre hotel in New York and asked her all the burning questions. Tessa spilled the beans on her marriage to Barron Hilton, walking the runway for Marcel Ostertag, and her relationship to Gossip Girl’s Serena Van Der Woodsen. JUTE: Hi Tessa! So nice to meet you! How are you? TESSA: Hi! Likewise! I’m good, how are you guys? You want some coffee? JUTE: We’re fine, super excited about this interview and yes, coffee sounds good. Let’s get it started if you don’t mind? TESSA: Sure! JUTE: So, first of all you got married pretty recently, right? Do you want to tell us something about it? TESSA: I could talk about my wedding an entire day (laughs). Barron proposed September 17th at Coney Island and we’ll go back there later this year. We spent 9 months in wedding planning mode and he was there for every step, which was beautiful because usually you hear the bride does everything, but he was there for absolutely everything, which made me feel even better. He really was there for the small things, like the cake tasting, and then we flew to St. Barts twice to really get all the details down to the color of the napkins. (laughs) JUTE: So you had a good time planning and organizing it all? TESSA: Yes, definitely. Putting together this picture of our love and relationship was such an experience and it just brought us even closer together. We got married on June 3rd at the little Anglican church right by the water. We had about 92 people and I thought I wouldn’t be crying, but I was bawling. It was so magical! Afterwards, we went and had dinner, speeches and just celebrated our love. JUTE: When did you guys meet? TESSA: We met 2½ years ago in St. Barts at Christmas, which is also why we got married there. JUTE: Now, before you married Barron your name was “Tessa Gräfin Von Walderdorff”. So, you’ve got a German background? TESSA: Yes, my father’s side is German and they live in Regensburg, Munich, Frankfurt. My mom was born in Paris, but her side of the family is Danish and SwissGerman. We would travel each year to those different places. I was born in NY, but then I lived in St. Barts when I was a baby for about 3-4 months at a time - so that has always been a special place to me.
JUTE: Wow, so I suppose you speak different languages? TESSA: Yes, French was my first language, but also English and German. It was always a mix and I went into my first day of school speaking French to everybody. (Laughs) For college, I moved to Berlin for a year. I was always in and out of the US and Europe. JUTE: So, would you call the U.S. or Europe your home? TESSA: I’ve got a close connection to both and call both home. JUTE: Because we have already been talking about your German heritage. I read that you would keep your maiden name in Germany and become a “Hilton” in the States. Is this true? TESSA: We are still trying to figure that out, but yes, it is true. We’ve got this aristocratic title in Germany that is so important to my family because it represents so much of our history and we are proud of it. That’s why Barron will become a count or “Graf ” as you would say it in German. JUTE: Interesting! Totally get it why you are keeping the name. Now let’s move on to your career. What exactly is it that you are working on at the moment? TESSA: I’ve started modeling, so it’s all a little new to me. I shot the Frederick Anderson campaign and I walked in a few shows during New York Fashion Week. I’m excited to see what happens next. I am enjoying exploring this business! JUTE: Sounds promising! Can you tell us some shows you participated in? TESSA: It started with Vivienne Hu and then Marcel Ostertag, which Barron also walked in. I loved the idea of walking for my German roots. I also walked in Augusto Manzanares and Mounton Blanc where I wore a wedding dress. Once a bride, always a bride – I guess (laughs). JUTE: You have been doing quite a few different jobs for your age. Did you already know what you wanted to do with your life in college? TESSA: I love writing and I went to college to study literature and film. I also wanted to learn about
computer science and learn how to code (laughs). I was studying philosophy and film, writing and literature of the 18th an 19th century and I was really into French, German and Russian literature. When I graduated I did not want to just work as a writer because I felt like it was a very lonely job. I was always in solitude writing. I thought of ways to collaborate with other people because I love being in company and having creative, smart, hardworking people around. I get so inspired by them. Writing is always in the background. Even though I’m pursuing a modeling career right now, writing is always there! JUTE: And do you still write? TESSA: I still write, but on the side. I love it, but I need something else right now where I’m working with people and where I can feel a constant presence of energy and creativity. JUTE: Have you published any of your writings yet? TESSA: No, but I’m in the process of publishing a children’s story. JUTE: Oh really? How great! Are children’s books your preferred genre or what kind of writing do you do? TESSA: Mostly short stories. I like to find the perfect sentence and my stories are always a little weird and edgy. They are sort of in that surrealist theme with dark humor, very sarcastic. That’s my style! (laughs). JUTE: That’s amazing. And you are 24, right? You’re pretty young, but you’ve already started building up your career and setting big goals. Do you feel like being a Walderdorff has made things different or even easier for you than for other young adults out there? TESSA: I think I was lucky because I always loved to work hard. I always wanted to get straight A’s in school and my parents always really supported me, but I wouldn’t say that my name or my heritage is why I am where I am now. In terms of fashion, my dad did backstage beauty with Allure, so I was introduced to the world of fashion and beauty naturally through him. He taught me the ins and outs of this whole fashion world. I’ve done PR, PA, and branding strategies, so I’ve seen and experienced every side from it except for modeling, but this is what I’m trying now. I guess this is why I’ve got my career set in stone because I know every part of it, so it was easier for me to realize that modeling was what I wanted to do. I am thankful for all these experiences and to my father for showing me his world.
JUTE: Do you sometimes feel like you get judged for your family background? TESSA: No! Not at all. Everyone has been super supportive. JUTE: I simply have to say this: you kind of remind me of Serena Van Der Woodsen! TESSA: (laughs) I actually got that a lot when I was younger! JUTE: Your life is pretty glamorous. You’re going to fancy events, wearing expensive dresses, and chit chatting with the high society on a regular basis. Sounds very “Gossip Girl”. Are there differences or even resemblances to the show? TESSA: (laughs) Biggest difference: my life is drama free. No relatives coming back from the dead – at least not yet (laughs). I haven’t watched this show in years, but I loved it. I remember there was so much drama, and that definitely isn’t an actual representation of my life. Barron and I try to keep everything pretty mellow and low-key. JUTE: Because you mentioned your husband again: when did you know he was the one? TESSA: He actually knew before I did. He told me the first night we met that I was the one, which was so funny because he just knew. JUTE: Wasn’t that scary? TESSA: I was laughing when he told me. We were on our way from the restaurant to the next destination and we were driving, and he took my hand and said “You know when you just know. And you are meant to be with me”. I was driving and thinking WHAT!? (laughs) We met again in New York two weeks later and then it hit me. I just knew. I don’t know how to explain it, it was just this feeling, this connection. He was this special someone, this special soul, nothing like all the others and he saw the same in me. JUTE: That sounds so nice! You should get your own TV show! TESSA: Haha. Yes! I should write a script about it. For the record: we would most definitely watch this show.

With a following reaching nearly 9 million, fitness model phenomenon Tammy Hembrow has managed to always stay true to herself through life’s most challenging stages. At just 24 years old, Hembrow has accomplished global recognition, as she somehow maintains a beautiful balance heading her fitness brand and raising her two children. “It’s actually really hard, but I’ve managed to set some boundaries. When I’m at home with my kids I don’t work so they get my full attention. Being so young, I can’t take my eyes off them for one second. I schedule my meetings and office time when they’re at day care and make sure to stick to my boundaries. I have to keep the work and home life separate in order to be fully present when I’m at home,” says Hembrow.
After a very publicized breakup with her fiancé and social media criticism, Hembrow’s strong support system helped keep her grounded and positive. “People were wanting to know what happened before we even knew what was going on. You have a picture of what you think your life is going to be like and then circumstances change and people change too. We were young when we got together and still figuring things out. I think when people are weighing in on your personal life while you’re trying to understand things yourself it can feel like a lot of pressure. I share so much of my life, so I understand that my followers online wanted to know what was going on,” shares Hembrow. Keeping a thick skin and knowing where to draw the line on sharing her personal life has given Hembrow the ability to appreciate the platform she’s been given. “With any brand comes criticism. I know who I am and what I stand for, so I remind myself of that,” she adds. Channeling her inner strength and taking the time to slow down and focus on her blessings, Hembrow credits her family and children for keeping her drive alive. “I’ve always been very self-aware - I know who I am and what I want to achieve out of life. I don’t do things to impress other people. I’m doing it for me and my family. I try and remember that when I’m facing obstacles and face them head on. You can’t hide from what’s in front of you, so I think of my children and who I’m doing these things for and just do it,” she says. Considering herself an ‘outgoing introvert’, Hembrow sets aside her shy
side when it comes time to get down to business. “My YouTube videos often show me with my family, who I’m completely comfortable with, so I might come across as more extroverted. I think it can take a minute for me to warm up and feel completely comfortable, but with work I channel my business side and push myself to be a little more extroverted. It can be scary, but sometimes that’s good for you,” Hembrow adds. Reminiscing on the days when Hembrow ran through the hills of her childhood farm, picking fruit and eating macadamia nuts, she shares that she and her sisters would play instruments together and sing classics from The Beatles. Her father played nearly every instrument, as she practiced in guitar, piano and saxophone. Holding these memories as her fondest from childhood, Hembrow says, “It really was a kids wonderland and even though at the time we didn’t have a lot, we didn’t really notice because we were always having fun.” Always placing family first and finding herself in a positive place personally, Hembrow has no limit to what she can accomplish. With focus, fierce determination and individuality– her fitness brand Saski continues to flourish and grow.
