Another spring has come and gone and now we are in summer, which is my least favorite season of the year. However, this issue is breathing new life into summer and I’m so excited! When I decided to do a travel theme for the summer issue I have to admit I was quite weary. Themes can be very limiting and I’ve learned that I prefer a general mood rather than a theme for an issue. I’ve always wanted to have more international photos in Jute though, so I decided to go for it, and holy shit I am so glad I did! We managed to get editorials from every single continent! Well, aside from Antarctica. Antarctica photographers, where you at?

Anyway, the issue is beautiful and I’m getting a serious case of travel fever with this one. So many beautiful places and only one lifetime to see them all. I hope this issue inspires all of my readers to explore. Travel is expensive, we all know that, but there’s beauty in your own backyard and right around the corner. If you can’t afford to see a new country then see a new state or city in your homeland. If you can’t afford that then take a walk through a park you’ve never explored or try a new coffee shop down the street. I just want you to experience life!

Lynzi xoxo,

FEATURED DESIGNER <<

LUDMILA NAVARRO Fine artist and jewelry designer Ludmila Navarro creates an unconventional, upcycling line of jewelry, encapsulating an international and empowering spirit. Individually handmade by Ludmila herself, the collection consists of statement rings, necklaces, bracelets and brooches. The eye catching and dynamic pieces, often featuring nature, skulls and animals, are “A tribute to all those women who know what they want.

SV: How did you transition into designing jewelry from fine art? Did you always want to be a jewelry designer? LN: I did not want to be a jeweler designer, but I used to wear a lot of jewels and accessories and, usually, it was quite difficult to find the right ones. The transition was in a very natural way. In fact, I think it was an evolution in my career. I always felt a strong desire to explore two-dimensional supports with different volumes and, as you know, all is susceptible to being aesthetically manipulated. At the same time, fashion jewelry interested me always and I wanted to give it an artistic approach and to overstep the rigid limits of the world of art. I started to create, first, jewelry for me because it did not exist. SV: Define your Jewelry. LN: This is quite complicated. Of course, first, it is a clearly statement jewelry. I think that it’s the result of testing with different colors, materials, shapes, textures, compositions, etc., during a lot of time, and finally applying all the achievements and a lot of dreams in a jewel. Otherwise, I believe in sustainable and eco work. For that reason, I usually work with vintage jewels and elements and I practice up cycling, of course. SV: Where are you from? Tell us a bit about your upbringing. LN: I am from Zaragoza, north of Spain, where I grew up. I actually lived between there and Barcelona, where I studied History of Art and Fine Arts. I painted for a long time and I also worked as a fashion illustrator for a very well-known French fashion magazine before starting with jewelry design. SV: Where do you draw your inspirations and your passion? LN: First, since I was a girl, at my parent´s home art was very present daily. That´s why I usually said that art was like a friend for me; it always accompanied me. Then, at school, and finally at university, my curiosity and sensitivity brought me to jewelry design. In fact, it was a quite long process. I also worked as a fashion illustrator for a fashion magazine for more than ten years. It was, definitely, a point of inflection. SV: Your jewelry has international vision. Which locations in the world have been your strongest influencers? LN: Thank God I travel very often and I have been almost everywhere. I love cultures and societies. For me, they are a power source of inspiration. I try to do a mix among all of them. In fact, I love to mix influences, I do not think I have a strongest influence, but if I had to choose one it would probably be Asia. Such a millennial culture…

SV: What materials do you use in your jewelry and where do they come from? LN: I normally use quartz and resins of a very high quality to create the structure of the piece, which is always gold plated. Then I work with vintage elements and jewels that I find everywhere I go: auctions, antiquarians, markets, secondhand markets, flea markets, on-line shopping, etc. I try to get vintage elements with such value as an antiquity or rare piece. I do luxury up cycling. What it means is that I transform vintage jewels into new jewels of a better quality by means of an artistic process. SV: Your personal style is very distinctive and unique; how would you define your style? LN: Very complicated, also. Normally, it is something that I feel; it is pure intuition. Usually, I do not think about my own style, I just try to be and to feel free. It’s not just my own style, it is also my creation, so I suddenly think about the idea of ¨demystify¨; it is very inspiring for me. Right now, I think that to create our own style requires a permanent exercise. I want to create a composition for jewelry that I can say is my personal style and it’s far from ordinary fashion and is close to my feelings. It is a style made with soul. SV: You have said your jewels “are a tribute to those women who know what they want, who are seductive, free, powerful and unique.” Do you believe that jewelry can empower a woman? LN: Of course, Totally! Definitely! That is the history of the adornment. Let’s think about the Tribes, the crowns of Kings and Queens… I listen. Very often, “this ring makes me happy, makes me feel beautiful, makes me feel stronger, makes me feel taller, etc.” Anyway, my intention is just to provoke a kind of awareness. All those women, all of us, we are power and uniqueness and when wearing one of my pieces, I just want them to be in contact with their inner power and to remember how wonderful that they are. SV: It appears that you tell a story in the pieces you create, is that so? Does each piece have a meaning? LN: For you yes, because you see the finished work. In fact, each finished jewel is like a story by itself. For me, it’s a Priori. I discover the meaning during the process, meanwhile, I create the piece. When the jewel is in process, for me, it’s like a game where trying, playing, testing, and everything can be possible. I just try to create a dialogue among the different elements that I use in the piece. SV: Do you personalize any designs for your clients? LN: Totally, and now it’s happening increasingly often. Since I have a massive stock from all around the world of vintage elements, usually some clients ask me about a subject and I propose many projects or some clients bring me their own vintage jewels or materials. During the last two years I made many very unconventional engagement rings as well.

SV: What is a typical day for you? LN: I am an early bird! I wake up very early (even if I prefer the night, overall, for working) and I usually do a lot of things. I am a workaholic. I usually spend a lot of time at my studio where I do all of my jewels and I go to my atelier daily where I work with my favorite jeweler. I am also involved in terms of social media and communication of my brand ¨Ludmila - Unconventional Jewelry”. I also do sport and yoga and take time for my family; my little daughter and my husband, of course. SV: What are your hobbies? LN: First at all, I love to travel. Then, I love to read, dance, listen to music; I am a real music lover and I always listen to music while I work. Music inspires me a lot. I also love gardening. I am very lucky to have a big garden at home! I love flowers, as you may have understood looking my jewelery. SV: Who do you admire? LN: I am not a mythomaniac; I really admire many creative people, from any sector which is independent with their own criterion and which produces originality and does not care about what is politically correct. I also admire all those women, from any culture or place, in love with themselves naturally, I also admire my mother, of course. SV: Where was the last place you traveled to? LN: Two weeks ago I was in Lisboa. A very charming city: quite unique and very inspiring. SV: Who are a few of your favorite designers? LN: Fashion Designers: Alexander McQueen, Miuccia Prada, Josep Font, Sybilla, Alessandro Michele, Dries van noten, Viktor&Rolf, Rei Kawakuvo, Issey Miyake. Sometimes they are very different, but I love opposites and I love to mix them also. Industrial Designers: Philippe Starck and Andrée Putman Jewelry Designers : Amedeo NY and Ericsson Beamon SV: If you could only wear one piece of jewelry for the rest of your life, which one would it be? LN: A white skull ring which I wore recently. Each time I see it I remember how beautiful life is. I like to wear it on the same hand with another ring to produce a big contrast.

DESIREE

ROSS If you are anything like me, you haven’t missed a second of the hit drama Greenleaf. Between the secrets and the scandal, there is never a dull moment. I had the pleasure of catching up with one of the stars, Desiree Ross, to see if her life is anything like that of the character she plays, Sophia Greenleaf. Interview by Jessica Payne

Jessica Payne [JP]: Tell me about being Sophia. How do you relate to her as a person? Desiree Ross [DR]: Sophia is the daughter of former pastor Grace Greenleaf. In season 1, Sophia and her mom moved from Phoenix, Arizona to Memphis, which is where Grace’s family is from. From there Sophia began transitioning from atheism into the Christian lifestyle. In season 2 you see her taking big steps into her faith, like getting baptized and preaching to the kid’s ministry. Sophia has a good heart and everything she does is with pure intentions; she always wants the best for the people around her- much like myself. Sophia and I are alike in many ways; personality and style wise we are similar. We love to learn and grow…. the only real differences between the two of us are circumstantial. I want to be an actress, I come from a great family whereas Sophia wants to be a preacher and she comes from a pretty twisted family. JP: You have spent your career working with greats; from Dolly Parton, to Spielberg, and now Oprah and Lynn Whitfield. Do you feel that they make you a better actor? Do you hold yourself to a higher standard because of it? DR: I definitely hold myself to a higher standard because of it. At the end of every day when we are filming, the producers get sent the dailies (takes from the day). Knowing Oprah and Steven Spielberg are seeing my every move on set, I always try to perform to the best of my ability with every take.

Shaw

Being able to work with Lynn, Oprah and Dolly on screen, I’ve learned so much by watching how they give their performances. I look carefully at how they work, it’s the little details they add in to a scene that I pay attention to; the way they deliver a line or shift their eyes. JP: What has been your favorite role so far? Why? DR: I think my favorite role so far, has been when I played Mira in Falling Skies. I got to film in Vancouver and my character turned evil. I did parkour private training to prepare for stunts. JP: Do you prefer movies or television? Why?

JP: If you weren’t an actor, what job would you have? DR: I would probably be a pediatric oncologist, because I love kids and I’m interested in finding a cure for cancer. As a kid I always wanted to either be an actress or a doctor so it was always one or the other. JP: I heard that you have fostered dogs in the past. Do you currently have any pets? DR: I do, I have a dog-named “JR”. He’s a jack Russell- beagle mix. He actually was our foster dog at first but he got sick, we felt so bad for him and ended up loving him so much, we had to keep him.

DR: Television, I think with television you have more time to get connected to the different characters and build a relationship with your character. With television, I can see the bigger picture. Plus, I like to binge watch.

JP: Do you consider yourself an indoor or an outdoor person?

JP: Who has taught you the most as an actor?

JP: What is your dream vacation?

DR: My manager, Gregg and my mom, Brooke. They have taught me the most as an actor. Ever since I first got started they have been the ones training me, through every audition and grooming me to be the actress I am today.

DR: My dream vacation would be going someplace like Moorea in French Polynesia or Tahiti or Bali or Maldives, getting a villa and just hanging there with my close friends and family-eating fruit and swimming in the ocean.

JP: I understand that you are a philanthropist. Tell me about your passion for helping others.

JP: If you were a super hero, what power would you possess?

DR: My parents have always taught me to give back and treat everyone the way I want to be treated. Connecting with the community by helping in food banks, making meals for the homeless feels good to me. I also go on mission trips with my church. At the moment I’d love to go to Togo, Africa which is the unhappiest country in the world, to help plant wells and churches and schools there. JP: How else do you like to spend your spare time? DR: I love eating, hanging with my friends and family, shopping, and traveling.

DR: I’m think I’m both. I love adventurous outdoorsy stuff like going to the beach or hiking but I also enjoy staying in and watching Netflix.

DR: Teleport! That way when I get done saving lives I could teleport across the world to places like Greece or Spain. JP: Is there anything else you would like our readers to know? DR: Follow my social media to keep up with me! Instagram: Desireeross_ Twitter: @thedesireeross Snapchat: Desiaross11 Facebook: OfficialDesireeRoss

NACRE voyage Nacre Voyage is launching their debut SS17 collection of swim and ready to wear cover-ups this May.

Inspired by Old Hollywood, Nacre Voyage seduces women who seek the ultimate in elegance. Styles are designed around simplicity- the purity of the cut, richness of the materials and the handmade craftsmanship. For Nacre Voyage, its not about fashion or trend, its about the style. The mix-and-match collection offers 7 swim silhouettes, and 12 ready to wear options in a variety of custom silk, linen and velvet skin fabrics. The line was designed to provide women an easy way to build and coordinate their beach wardrobe. Custom-colored pastels and prints create a pure, subdued and sophisticated look influenced by Palm Beach circa 1960s. Handmade in NYC, Nacre Voyage selects the highest quality Italian fabrics sourced from the same European mills that supply high-end designers including YSL and Tom Ford. The collection offers the perfect support, is quick drying, and feels luxurious to the touch. All prints are exclusive to the brand, commissioned by international artists, and selected based on their modern vibe and ability to tell a story. This series is all about being ultra-feminine and soft. Prints are also strategically placed on the fabric to accentuate and enhance the female figure- it doesn’t get better than that.

COVER STORY <<

GROWING

UP MCCLAIN Sierra McClain’s voice rings as velvet through the phone. Her rich tone reflects her personality: a combination of strength, humor, poise, and relaxed confidence, uncommon in someone her age. Sierra Aylina McClain, the oldest of the McClain sisters, grew up in the musical McClain family-- father: Michael “MJ”- record producer, sound engineer singer, writer; mother- Shontell also a singer, musician and songwriter; and her two sisters, China Anna and Lauryn. The family has collaborated on such musical endeavors as writing (Mom), producing (Dad), and recording (girls) the theme song Rise for Disneynature’s film Chimpanzee (2012); and earlier the girls appeared alongside Idris Elba and Gabrielle Union in Tyler Perry’s Daddy’s Little Girls (2007). The McClain family has worked hard to get to this point, and the love, pride, and support are evident in Sierra’s demeanor. I caught up with her during the final weeks of filming Honey 4 in Altanta. Interview by Rebecca Cramer

photographed by Angela Marklew@DAG Agency stylist Jenni Lee@DLMLA, hairstylist Lisa Deveaux, make-up artist Jorge Monroy

Rebecca Cramer [RC]: How is the filming for Honey 4 coming along? Sierra McClain [SM]: It’s going amazing! I knew it was going to be fun, but I had no idea exactly what I was getting myself into. . .this has been an ex-per-i-ence! But one of my all-time favorites. I can’t wait for it to come out. I am not a dancer! (laughing) I had to give a disclaimer, “Listen ya’ll, I’m gonna have to be in rehearsal 24 -7! I do not have a [dance] background in this.” The dancing needs to feel as natural as it can, so hopefully, that’s what you see on film. RC: Universal Pictures Home Entertainment’s Honey 4 (set for release in 2018), the latest in a series by director Billie Woodruff, is set in “Atlanta’s underground dance scene,” co-stars Teyana Taylor, and Bryshere Y. Gray (a.k.a. Yazz the Greatest), wrapped up filming in early June. SM: Filming has been hard. But so amazing. There are so many great dancers who just happen to be great actors as well. It’s gonna be really good. RC: With such a talented family, I can imagine there was a lot of singing and music around the house? SM: Absolutely! My parents met singing, and writing, and producing songs. I don’t ever remember a time when music wasn’t playing in my house. People have always been singing. One of my favorite reoccurring moments is when one person is singing in one room and then a harmony comes from the next room. That never gets old, ever. I had a great childhood, public school up to 7th grade. After Daddy’s Little Girls – in the 7th grade- we were home schooled. RC: Sierra plays Nessa Parker in season three of Fox’s hitdrama Empire. Nessa has been described as “edgy” and hyper- ambitious, but how would you describe her, and how do you feel you are both alike and different from her? SM: Both of us love music, and are hardworking and driven. However, unlike me, Nessa will do anything necessary to get to the top. She is cut throat and ruthless, and that is draining for me. So much drama! I feel whatever God has planned for me is all right, I am not about to fight you for it! Also, Nessa is overly ambitious. I want others to be successful. I hope you have success. I WANT you to have success. I would say, “Look, you’ve got some good people behind you. There is room for everybody.” You need to learn there is room for everybody. RC: Will you be playing Nessa in season 4? SM: I am still waiting to hear. Whatever happens, happens. This was such an amazing experience. Though she stressed me out, this was my dream job! To be able to be on television in front of so many people, to do what I love, and to be given so much amazing material to work with. It really was a blessing. The people, the crew, it was a beautiful experience. I am grateful, to Lee [Daniels] for taking a chance on me and I just appreciate it so much.

RC: What has been your favorite song to perform on the show? SM: There were so many! Actually, the soundtrack a Black Girl Magic remix with Serayah, I didn’t hear it until it came out (soundtrack available through iTunes). It is so good! RC: How about when it is just you, like in your car? SM: I’m kind of an old school head. I love D’Angelo, Boys to Men. “Can We Talk” by Tevin Campbell is always in my head, I am constantly singing it. RC: Nessa joined the storyline in Empire in her breakout performance of “Need Freedom” the shows sociallyresponsible reaction to tragic events, and the Black Lives Matter movement. What has been the reaction to this? SM: For one, I think the song and episode came out at the perfect time, and I felt so blessed just to be a part of it. We got to kick the season off, and that episode set the tone for the rest of the season. I’m so happy we didn’t pull punches. The writers and production team weren’t concerned with being politically correct, this is what we [as a show] are about, and this is the statement we are making for the opener. It was bold. And I am so happy I was a part of it. People, fans, have taken to it. It has been very humbling, and such a blessing to sit back and see, and hear how that song has touched people. How they appreciated that we decided to touch on such a sensitive topic. Empire is one of the biggest shows on tv, and the producers decided this is how we are coming out, this is how we are going to set the tone. We are just going to come out swinging. I think a lot of people respected that- And it made them feel something. [We] used the platform in such a beautiful way. I say this all the time, music is universal. If

you want to get a message out there, there is arguably no better way to do so. If you feel it, everybody else feels it, that is something truly magical. RC: Has there been a moment or situation where you found yourself stunned that this life as a “star” is really happening? SM: We, China and Lauryn and myself, have worked with some amazing people. But for some reason I am reminded of the most random moment. It wasn’t at work, it was the premier of Justin Beiber’s film, Never Say Never. We get to our seats, everyone is screaming, because it’s Justin, and he is so cute. Then I look to my left, and I have a conniption because it’s Christopher Maloney! Then my sisters and I suddenly turned into complete fools among ourselves. We still laugh about it. All the other girls at the show were screaming for Justin, and we were complete fools because here was Christopher Maloney right next to us. Hopefully, we can meet him formally someday, and get a chance to say “Hey what’s up, nice to meet you! We’re not crazy! We promise!”

And read. I’d read more. I used to read a lot more! But, if I had to break the bank I would do so in Barnes and Noble. I used to read the teen novels a lot, Sarah Dessen, a lot of Ellen Hopkins, I have a huge set of Sandra Brown. More recently, I started reading mysteries. My Mom turned me on to Agatha Christy. I went to the store and I bought a bunch, and I am so disappointed I haven’t had a moment, so I have been waiting until I can crack those open. Once I get a break, I’ll be into ALL those books. (laughing) RC: How about your spare time? SM: I am very much a sit in the bed, with a good blanket and a lot of food kind of girl. I love movie night with my sisters, or whole family, or a bunch of friends. We just did that last night! My friends from Honey 4 and I just ate, and hung out and played games. It was great. RC: Favorite Movie? SM: Love and Basketball. I wish I knew how to play basketball.

RC: In another world, if you weren’t an actress and singer what do you think you would be doing?

RC: Our conversation swings to the upcoming Jute fashion shoot.

SM: I would be going to college studying psychology, I think. I love the idea of understanding, you know, why people do what they do. And human behavior in general. Probably, I think I would study child behavior. I love children. I am excited to someday have a family.

SM: During the past month, I’ve worn nothing but sweatpants and sports bra. I have a new-found love for dance attire! But, unfortunately, I am so not well versed in brand names. If it looks beautiful, and it feels good, I will wear it. I don’t care if it comes from a thrift store. But I do have to say, I have fallen in love with photo shoots the more that I have done them. I love when I have a chance to step out of my fashion comfort zone. It’s like acting. You get to feel like somebody else and tell a story. RC: Who do you look up to, either in the business, or outside, who is your role-model? SM: I really look up to my family for sure. My mother is such a beautiful strong black woman, and she is definitely who I look up to. And in terms of my career, I honestly look up to Taraji P. Henson (Cookie Lyon in Empire). She has laid such a beautiful template for young black and up-andcoming actresses. She is so poised and so unapologetically herself, so true to who she is, and what she believes, and you just don’t see that anymore. I look up to her because of the example that she sets. She makes me want and need to be true to what I want, and my needs. She is a true role model. Not somebody who says, “Follow me!” but who says, “Follow your heart, and be true to who you are, and who you need to be.” Well said Ms. McCain.

FEATURED MODEL <<

ZOHRE

ESMAELI When Zohre Esmaeli was a young girl living in Afghanistan, she never dreamed she would be a successful model, found multiple charities, or live in cities all around the world, and yet she's accomplished all that and more. In addition to being featured in magazines such as Vogue and Elle and working for brands like Levi and Moschino, Zohre has become an amazing philanthropist and been able to use her experiences as a refugee to help others in similar situations. From escaping the Taliban to founding the organizations Culture Coaches and Save Society, Zohre has never let go of what's truly important in life. In 2014, she published her autobiography, called “Meine neue Freiheit – Von Kabul über den Laufsteg zu mir selbst,” which tells about her life and experiences living all over the world. I can't express how lucky I feel to have been able to ask this extraordinary woman all about her story, from little girl in Kabul to fashion model and humanitarian. photographed by Alexei Bazdarev

Olivia Louden [OL]: What stands out to you most when reflecting on your childhood in Afghanistan? Zohre Esmaeli [ZE]: As a child, you follow your parents and you have to grow up to ask questions. From my point of view now, I can say that my childhood was not really bad, but it was not unburdened. I took everything as easy as possible and tried to find the best way to handle every situation. The social situation in Afghanistan requires getting adult and independent very quickly for kids. There is less time to be a child. It was necessary to take responsibility for daily life very early. My brothers, for example, sold cigarettes and chewing gums after school to support the family. Like all kids we loved to play and we also wanted to go to school, but there was no choice for us because we had to work a lot to get around all together as good as possible. The life was different there; we had no washing machines, no vacuum cleaner and we had to carry water from outside. In 1999, as the Taliban took over, I fled together with my family because my father is Shiite and the situation got dangerous for him. The Taliban are fundamentalist Sunnis, which causes danger to life of Shiites. OL: I hear you initially trained as an aircraft engineer. What drew you to that line of work, and if you hadn't been discovered as a model, would you still be working on aircraft? ZE: When I was a child, I played with my brother in the garden often and when I saw some airplane over us in the sky, I started to dream about this airplane and all the people who have the chance to travel with this airplane. For me it has always been a big and far away dream, I could never believe that one day I would take a flight!!! This was the reason when we arrived in Germany. I thought I wanted to be aircraft engineer and to be close to my dream. I also heard that in Germany becoming a pilot can be very expensive!! That's why I decided to work as an engineer first and to understand how aircraft really work. OL: I understand you were discovered as a model while out shopping. What was that like? What was going through your head? ZE: Yes, a nice girl scouted me as a model and I was very curious what exactly it meant to be model. I had planned to become an engineer, but then a model scout in the street asked me if I could think of working in the model industry. Because I had to care for my own life after my second escape it was a welcome opportunity to create an independent life. OL: When you first began modeling, it was only three years since you had escaped the Taliban. I imagine that was a bit of a culture shock. How did that feel? ZE: After all, when we arrived in Germany, we were just happy. It was not easy to adapt, because we did not understand the language, we did not know enough about rules and culture here – so this caused a lot of trouble at school and in daily life. I would say, it took 2 years to find friends, most of them also from other countries. Kids sometimes are cruel – mobbing is very common – but beside this, I had a good time and always found support from outside. For me the best thing was to be open for the new country and to anticipate how everything works here in Germany. For my family the process was not that easy. They stayed with their traditional education and thinking, as migrants often do. I really do understand this – I think they are afraid to lose their culture. In my opinion, integration does not mean to forget your history but to be open for the future. Yes, I had a lot of difficulties, because my parents did not want me to drive a

bike, to swim or go to the movies with my friends and a lot more. I was not allowed to take part on a school trip for example. This is why I had to leave my family. Therefore I fled a second time. OL: You've lived in a lot of different places. What have you learned about people and the world from living in so many cities? ZE: First of all, I learned a lot about life and how to be independent during modeling. Modeling opened my eyes and my mind to see the people and culture around me through positive experiences and not through the negative stuff that I learned when I was a child. For example, I grew up in a Muslim country and heard so many bad things about Jewish people, and I can say that all of them were wrong. While modeling I found a lot of friends and they are still my true friends and they care about me. I am happy that my perspective got bigger and clearer about life. OL: Tell me about Culture Coaches. How do you use your experiences to help others? ZE: When I arrived in Germany, I had all the good and bad experiences about being a refugee. Meanwhile I understand what that means and also know about the other side, the society who "receives" this refugee, and what exactly they need. My integration time was like a stopping progress. Nobody cared about how to handle it or be with a refugee, and it was the same for refugees, we didn’t know what to do when we arrived here. We had a lot of questions without answers. There was something like an empty place between both sides. Now everybody knows that we need really strong integration concepts for our society, not just only for new refugees but also for German people or the residents in other countries. I thought about how I could help my new society that gave me a new life as a human and a woman and how I could give some sustainable things back as a "thank you" to this country . That is the main reason for founding the project CULTURE COACHES . With CC we will build bilingual coaches for 6 important parts of every society: 1.Schools 2.Hospitals 3.Public Institutions 4.Refugees 5.Police and Fire Departments and 6.Economy and Companies, Executives. CC is about 1) Understanding each other 2) Tolerance 3) Respect and 4) Living together . OL: What can you tell me about Save Society? ZE: Save Society is about discrimination . Unfortunately I had already experienced how people, especially women, were discriminated against in my native country. In Germany, I have experienced discrimination and judgment, too. You are pigeonholed based on your skin color, origin, language, religion or disability. Today I can set an example and hope to positively influence and change the way we treat each other. OL: What can individuals do to fight discrimination? ZE: Society love can be the center for this fight and 1) Understanding each other 2) Tolerance 3) Respect and 4) Living together can help us. OL: Finally, what does "freedom" mean to you, and what makes it so important? ZE: In every part of my life I discovered new freedom over and over again in all directions. After arriving in Germany, I discovered the freedom to be human, afterwards to be a woman, and now as an adult person in my life. I am happy and thankful for the life I live here and to be able to choose what I want to do. That is a big gift for my life that I enjoy everyday!!

MEDALION

RAHIMI Medalion Rahimi is known for her well-played roles in “Still Star-Crossed”, “Before I Fall”, and series like “New Girl” or “Criminal Minds”. With Jute Magazine she talked about her future, her roles and her opinion on politics. Read her interview and get to know the amazing 24-year-old actress. Interview by Marie-Christin Tripolt

Marie-Christin Tripolt [MT]: Your latest film “Before I Fall” has just come out. How does it feel seeing yourself and your work on the screen? Medalion Rahimi [MR]: It’s surreal and very very exciting. We had a great time shooting, so every moment of the film is filled with memories from our time together. It’s also an incredible story that I think a lot of people, young and old, can connect to. MT: How does it feel to you knowing that so many young people will be watching you on the screen? MR: It’s an honor and I feel a great responsibility. I think young people can sometimes be underestimated or patronized by their seniors. But they’re smart. And tech savvy—I have an eleven year-old sister who knows more about computers than I do. Growing up is not easy, so I’m really proud to be a part of a project that delves into so many important issues. A lot of the characters are questioning their identity, sex and gender, dealing with bullying and isolation, suicide…all very real issues that need to be talked about. As a big sister, I try to be the best role model possible. Of course, no one’s perfect.

MT: Are you currently working on a new project? MR: I’m a regular on an upcoming Shonda Rhimes show titled ‘Still Star-Crossed’ which airs March 29th at 10pm PST on ABC. It’s a period drama that picks up where the story of Romeo and Juliet leaves off. Set in 16th century Verona, I play Princess Isabella, Prince Escalus’s strong-willed sister. It’s something we worked really hard on and I’m so excited for everyone to see it. I also just got my first apartment, so decorating will be my next project. MT: What are your future goals and where do you see yourself in a few years? MR: For me and my loved ones to continue to be happy and healthy. That’s most important. I would also like to get more involved in politics and aid work. MT: You have also spoken out against the immigration ban. How important is politics to you and could you imagine becoming involved in a political party or a human rights organization yourself?

MT: You surely have some actors and actresses that you look up to. But how does it make you feel that gradually you are becoming a role model as well for so many young people?

MR: I would like to get more involved, absolutely. My mother is a criminal defense attorney now immigration lawyer, and I really admire the work she does. I think it’s very important for anyone of any influence to use it for the greater good. A little can go a long way. Right now, I’m a member of the ACLU and a donor to Planned Parenthood as well as multiple refugee relief organizations.

MR: I do my best. What’s really disconcerting is so many young influencers who take their influence for granted. They don't realize the impact they have on others, or could have in a positive way. We are all humans trying to figure it out.

MT: Is there a special actor or actress that you have always dreamed of co-staring with? MR: Hmm….Catherine Deneuve and Bill Murray. Together! Imagine that…

Luciana Bladerrama blouse FETE bustier Ghandour skirt MT: It is already hard work establishing oneself as an Jad actress. Dori Csengeri earrings

Would you say that it is even more complicated to do so with an Iranian etc. background? MR: I prefer to use the term ‘actor.’ I think there is some stigma being a female actor; there are a lot of frivolous and debasing roles out there. This industry is difficult to break into in general. It takes a lot of time and patience, and mounds of dedication. It’s not for the weak-willed. As for being Iranian, now is the best time to embrace our differences and remember that this country was built on the backs of immigrants. Film and television lacks diversity, but things are slowly changing. It makes me very happy to see this industry is taking great strides to represent different cultures. MT: You have already been in “New Girl”, “Criminal Minds” and many other differently categorized productions. Is there one kind of genre that you particularly enjoy or do you prefer a constant change? MR: I grew up watching action movies with my dad and psychological thrillers with my mom. I hope to delve into both genres as well as my favorite: sci-fi. MT: What is something that you have learned during your career that you would like to pass on to others that see you as a role model? MR: Never try to change who you are, or to fit what you think society’s standards might be. I tried to do that and I learned the hard way that it never works out. When I did finally start to accept myself, I found more happiness than ever. We should embrace who we are, what we look like and celebrate our differences. MT: And finally, what is the most important feature that someone simply must have to become successful? MR: Humanity.

Francesca Aiello,

Luciana Bladerrama blouse FETE bustier Ghandour skirt the mastermind behindJad Frankies Dori Csengeri earrings

Bikinis who once upon a time sought out to craft the unflawed bikini, gravitated all eyes with her most recent blast from the past 2017 resort whimsical of the era inspired by social, musical and artistic change. Aiello’s ‘psychedelic 60’s’ certified to attain its throne standing ever so true to a decade when feminine power was forever altered due to the acceptance of bikini’s in women’s lives. The gorgeous sun-kissed blondes and brunettes manifested their bold eccentricity in playful necklines, flattering ‘Marley’ bottoms, comforting ‘Valentina’ tops and Frankies Bikinis signature boho-infused crochet classifications. Hence, what was truly fascinating was the transformation of their runway spotlight into a feminist movement petition. As the honorable and carefree march of the hippie parade sauntered the catwalk, the girl power bae’s clenched onto signs reading ‘free the nipple’, ‘we rise by lifting others’ and ‘be a voice, not an echo’ While inspiring, Francesca ensured to fulfill mesmerizing with the radiant cheekiness of Frankies sweethearts amalgamated with their brazen bottoms and surreal, luxurious fabrics. Who would of thought what commenced yesterday as a fun-filled quest to create swanky and flirty custom-made bikinis for her gal pals, has today transitioned into a global online and boutique presence for trendy-savvy avant-garde beachwear? Frankies Bikinis have been worn by mainstream influencers and celebrities including Candice Swanepoel, Ireland Baldwin and Kylie Jenner. Warm salutations to a thriving business, designed with love in Malibu that is forever seeking for what is currently trending and on the move to embody women empowerment by creating incomparable suits for women of all shapes and sizes. Bravo Francesca!
