Grace, O Heart O Love everything is suddenly turned to gold! Don’t be afraid don’t worry the most astounding beautiful thing has happened here! When he came I thought it was the same old him, mad, but something had happened to him in the meantime since we last saw him…but last night I finally met him and we sat down facing each other across the kitchen table and looked eye to eye and I confessed all my doubt and misery – and in front of my eyes he turned Dead. What happened to him you ask? My heart has often been too full to speak or take any notice I am sure you know I loved him well enough to believe that I mind his sufferings nearly as much as my own and I find the only relief to my own is to take his from God’s hand. Because why should I suffer when I could be bathing in jewels? I woke up this morning with great bliss of freedom and joy in my heart, he’s gone, I’m saved, you’re saved, we’re all saved, everything has been all rapturous ever since – I only feel sad that perhaps we should have done it sooner – I wish we could have been rich sooner. But believe me, nothing on earth is given without labor, even death, the most beautiful and desired of feelings. Love xxxxxx, Whitney

“Yes, death. Death must be so beautiful. To lie in the soft brown earth, with the grasses waving above one’s head, and listen to silence.”
